Chapter 86: The World Guardian's Request
The Net of Destiny is an understandable representation of fate.
The senses of creatures are limited, even for a Dominator.
When creatures encounter things they cannot comprehend, those things will manifest in a form they can understand.
The Net of Destiny is such a form that Richard, and even Wizards, can comprehend.
Richard looked at the black Thread Of Destiny; its length seemed limitless. At least with Richard's senses, he couldn't see its starting point.
The length of the Thread of Destiny represents time, indicating that the origin of this black thread's owner is unimaginably ancient.
"Civilization Devourer?" Richard muttered in his heart.
However, although the Thread Of Destiny of the Civilization Devourer had no visible starting point, its endpoint was visible.
Richard could clearly see that the Thread Of Destiny representing his own fate was tightly connected to this black thread.
No matter how the black thread struggled, it was to no avail.
And at the point where the two Threads Of Destiny intersected, the thread of the Civilization Devourer no longer existed.
This also meant death, true death.
But similarly, after this node, Richard also didn't see his own Thread Of Destiny.
"Is this my end?"
Richard looked at that node and suddenly felt a sense of calm in his heart.
"It doesn't have to be your end."
A voice suddenly arose in Richard's heart—it was his own voice.
After the appearance of that voice, a surge of anger erupted in him. Why should his fate be manipulated? Why must he die?
He had worked so hard to become the Crown Throne, a being above all in the Wizard World.
Why couldn't he enjoy his wonderful life, but instead have to fight to the death against that monster?
Why!
"Heh, so it was your trick all along," Richard suddenly said.
"Although the Curse Crown indeed saw the Net of Destiny at the Sixth Circle, he was a genius of the Curse School, possessing frighteningly high spirituality.
And without the Bloodline, I would have been a Spiritual Insulator.
How could I have seen the Net of Destiny at the Sixth Circle?"
As he spoke, Richard's gaze suddenly became incredibly sharp, his eyes like swords piercing the black Thread Of Destiny, his tone full of sarcasm.
"Civilization Devourer, is this kind of mind-manipulating trick the best you can do?"
"Is that so?"
Once again, the voice sounded in Richard's heart, and once again, it was his own voice.
"Are you truly reconciled to this? Your future could have been infinitely splendid, so why fight against a being you've only met once?
You bear him no grievances, and it's precisely because of him that you've come this far.
Abandoning this outcome would be good for everyone."
"Being devoured by you is a good thing?" Richard sneered as he spoke.
"Who can prove this? Your information has only one source, and you're nothing but a pawn in their scheme. Wouldn't the information you encounter be selectively expressed?"
Though the voice sounded exactly like Richard, it carried an alluring power when it spoke.
Upon hearing it, a doubt arose in Richard's heart.
Indeed, all the information he knew was left by the Previous Civilization, and being part of their scheme, he certainly wouldn't receive any information detrimental to their plans.
However, the next moment, an icy smile appeared on Richard's face.
"So what? Even if they lie, are you not capable of lying? Your mind-bending, will-shaking trickery—is it really for the sake of telling the truth?
Spare me your boring tricks; if you could fight me head-on, I might even respect you a bit."
"Stubbornness is the most terrible affliction of a Wizard. It can make a well-informed Wizard overlook even simple things an Apprentice could discover.
You're already ensnared in this malady,"
The voice next to Richard's ear sounded compassionate, as if it lamented that Richard was obstinately walking a perilous path despite its warnings.
But Richard's will remained rock-solid, immune even to its seductive whispers.
Suddenly, Richard sensed a pull.
It seemed as though a rope had entwined his body, and it was currently retracting relentlessly.
In the Wizard World, Richard's ascension had already concluded.
At this moment, his massive form had grown to nearly three thousand meters in height, appearing from afar like a mountain suspended in the air.
His skin now lacked Bone Scales and was replaced by thick, leathery skin.
The wild, invasive aura of the Abyss had vanished, and under the unifying force of the Titan Bloodline, Richard's presence had become balanced and stable, as steady as a mountain.
Aside from these changes, the most significant transformation in Richard was in his eyes.
On the outer corners below his main eyes, a pair of small eyes, akin to those of a four-eyed human, remained tightly shut.
"It seems I've truly been targeted,"
Richard's main eyes slowly opened, letting out a deep sigh.
Being relentlessly pursued by the Curse Crown, such a creature must naturally understand fate. With a Thread Of Destiny wrapped around him that couldn't be shaken off, it indeed must have been noticed.
Thinking back now, that sudden appearance of the Dominator of Mayfly must have been his doing.
The hidden dimension of the ten thousand engines is very well-concealed; without coordinates, even if Richard searched for an entire epoch, he could never find it.
How did it happen that the Dominator of Mayfly arrived just as he was collecting his inheritance?
"Facing an enemy who can interfere with the Thread of Destiny is truly a challenging affair."
Richard slowly descended to the ground, shrinking his massive body to about two meters.
At this moment, his eyes were devoid of hesitation and bewilderment, filled only with steadfast conviction.
What does it matter having seen his own destiny? Even if the endpoint is determined, he can still change the fate of countless others along the way.
As for death.
He has lived for thousands of years; before coming to this world, his age was enough to witness humanity's journey from tribal to modern society.
To Richard, death is no longer so terrifying.
Richard suddenly gave a self-mocking laugh, "The Life and Death Cycle is a natural order; I suppose I've grasped the essence of Titan philosophy."
Discarding the chaotic thoughts in his mind, Richard looked around the space and suddenly spoke, "World Guardians, why are you looking for me?"
Only to see in the empty space, three World Guardians suddenly emerged, each at the Sixth Level.
Among them was the familiar Forest Guardian that Richard had seen before.
"Miracle Crown, we have something we wish to discuss with you," the leading World Guardian said with a slight bow, slowly starting to speak.
This Guardian appeared as a sphere of entangled colors, white and black intertwined, sometimes blended and at other times distinct.
"Discuss? What's the matter?"
Richard was somewhat baffled.
He did not understand what these World Guardians could possibly have to do with him.
"Please follow me over here."
The World Guardian opened a Space Rift, but unlike ordinary ones, this rift seemed to lead to a stable space tunnel.
Richard raised an eyebrow slightly, "Using a net passage, what can't be said here?"
The Guardian calmly replied, "Don't you find this place too simplistic?"
The curiosity of the World Guardians piqued Richard's interest; surely they bore him no harm, so he might as well go and see.
After all, he didn't have much else to do at the moment.
Entering the space tunnel, Richard soon arrived at a hall.
The decor of the hall looked unpretentious and plain, like a simpler version of the Truth Council Hall.
At that moment, several Guardians were already seated in the hall, and Richard glanced around, feeling slightly surprised.
"Sea Guardian, Sky Guardian, Earth Guardian, Guardian of the Four Seasons, along with the inviting Day and Night Guardian, Forest Guardian, and Hundred Beasts Guardian.
The Sixth Level Guardians of the entire Wizard World have gathered."
The three World Guardians appeared in the hall with Richard, and with their arrival, this slightly mysterious meeting officially began.
"Crown Throne, please come this way."
Under the guidance of the Day and Night Guardian, Richard went to a position on the far side of the hall.
Then, he spoke, "The Guardians' meeting begins now; our agenda this time is—the End of Magic Era."
"End of Magic Era?"
Richard felt a slight shock; wasn't there still over a hundred years before the End of Magic Era?
As if seeing through Richard's confusion, the Day and Night Guardian explained, "Sir, the End of Magic Era has come early. Previously, the various Crown Thrones took such great risks to eliminate the Galaxy Mayfly in World 2456, just to navigate the End of Magic Era successfully."
Richard was slightly taken aback, realizing there was a deeper strategy behind the great victory in World 2456.
Upon closer reflection, this latest victory indeed seemed somewhat unusual.
The iron wall defense set up by the Wizards was prepared for the End of Magic Era; how could the Mayfly have breached it so easily?
"If nothing unexpected happens, the World Origin of the Wizard World will completely slumber in three years. By then, only mortals and Great Wizards will be able to survive."
"So, why have you invited me here?" Richard asked directly, looking at the Day and Night Guardian.
He disliked beating around the bush, and his current strength and status were enough to allow him to follow his instincts.
Seeing Richard's directness, the Day and Night Guardian also replied straightforwardly, "We hope, sir, that you can protect us."
"Protect?"
Richard asked in bewilderment.
The End of Magic Era isn't the end of the world; these World Guardians could simply slumber along with the Origin.
Could it be that the End of Magic Era would cause all the World Guardians to perish together?
But he couldn't save them from that.
"Yes, sir, we hope you can protect us," said the Forest Guardian beside Richard.
"Why?" Richard asked in confusion, "You're World Guardians; who can trouble you?"
The Day and Night Guardian looked at Richard and softly said, "What do you think, Crown Throne? Who in the entire Wizard Civilization can touch us?"
Richard's brow furrowed slightly, and his voice turned cold and hard.
"Why does the Council want to act against you? What have you been up to secretly?"
In the Wizard Civilization, only the Truth Council could take action against these World Guardians.
