Chapter 52: Return to the Battlefield
Under the guidance of the action avatar, Richard quickly found the first batch of legions prepared by Samuel.
"Is this the standard legion of the Abyss? It looks... a bit rudimentary."
Richard looked at the Abyss Army beneath his feet. The individual quality of these legions seemed quite decent. Even by the standards of wizards, these Abyss Demons met the standards of the clan.
However, perhaps because the deal with the wizard only mentioned the legion as compensation and did not specify the weapons and equipment for the legion.
As a result, the equipment of these legions looked quite rudimentary.
Most of them wore leather armor, and only a few had metal armor. As for weapons, they were almost nonexistent, relying entirely on their claws and fangs.
As for supplies and auxiliary items, though they were not visible, judging by the main equipment, these items likely weren't much better either.
Richard couldn't help but compare these legions with the Abyss army in his memory, and it was only through comparison that he realized the Abyss army he encountered back then seemed even worse.
Those demons didn't even have leather armor and fought basically naked. However, because of their strong physique, it didn't feel out of place.
As it appears now, that batch of demon legions was likely born as ordinary demons on the spot in the goblin world.
"Is your equipment very scarce?" Richard couldn't help but ask.
"Equipment?" The action avatar's spiritual message was somewhat puzzled, "It's too wasteful to equip these grunts.
Moreover, the equipment produced by demon craftsmen cannot be used by these small fries due to their lack of strength."
Grunts, huh...
Looking at the Abyss Demons in front of him, who could almost be considered part of the clan, Richard realized even deeper the strength of Abyss civilization.
To use such demons as expendable grunts, the base combat strength of the Abyss civilization must be comparable to the Galaxy Mayfly.
If a war were to break out between the two civilizations, these massive hordes of grunts would certainly bring a huge amount of trouble to the wizards, unless they, too, had an equivalent number of low-level wizards to deal with them.
Richard thought to himself: "Subspecies wizards, it seems inevitable."
Upon landing on the ground, upon sensing Richard, these Abyss Demons instantly stopped moving, not daring even to breathe.
"What's going on here?"
Richard was somewhat confused. If these Abyss Demons were bowing to him collectively, he could understand. But standing still like statues was truly baffling.
"This is their respect for you," the action explained from the side, "Every Great Demon, or Abyss Lord, has different preferences. Some demons like bowing, some like displaying their bellies, while others prefer screaming loudly.
They don't know your preference, so randomly doing anything might offend you.
So they have no choice but to stand still. This is considered a universal courtesy in the Abyss."
Richard asked curiously, "What if they encounter a lord who dislikes stillness?"
The action replied naturally, "Then, they're just unlucky."
"...Alright."
Richard waved his hand at the demons and said, "Go on with whatever you were doing, don't mind me. Also, pass this order down the line; I don't want to have to tell every batch of demons the same thing every time."
Upon receiving the order, the demons immediately started moving. Those near other areas began to relay the command, while the remaining demons resumed their daily training.
Demons are a race that undergoes physique evolution, having developed their own understanding of physical evolution.
In the training ground, Richard could see demons engaging in self-harm training similar to when he trained his Adaptation Body, as well as demons conducting strength training with heavy objects. Beyond this, he also witnessed energy stimulation training, herbal bath training, energy cycle training, and even dual cultivation training.
"These little guys have chosen different paths, and naturally, their practices differ accordingly," the action explained.
Richard shook his head slightly, "Too much diversity in a legion isn't a good thing."
"It seems you have not yet realized the abilities of demons," the action replied, "In all evolutions of demons, higher-ranked demons can encompass all the abilities of lower-ranked demons.
There is nothing a lower-ranked demon can do that a higher-ranked demon evolved from them cannot do."
Richard was slightly taken aback. He hadn't started studying the evolution tree of demons yet, so he genuinely didn't know this.
"Of course, higher-ranked demons sometimes deliberately devolve certain features as a symbol of their superiority as higher-ranked demons.
However, you can prohibit this through authority."
Richard nodded slightly and then flew towards the depths of the legion.
In the center around which the legion was organized, the organizer of this batch of legion—Abyss Demon Dragon Ista, was engaging in his daily activity—burning Carlos with fire.
"You dare to curse, you dare to curse!"
Ista repeatedly burned Carlos into charcoal with flames of fury. His flames concentrated "toxic" energy, capable of damaging Carlos at a cellular level, thereby causing him enduring pain.
Whenever this energy was depleted, Ista would burn Carlos again to maintain the extreme torment.
After being tortured by Ista for so many years, Carlos's spirit had become immensely resilient. These pains could make him howl but could never break his will.
Just as Ista was torturing Carlos, a voice suddenly interrupted him.
"Uh, could you explain what's going on here, my friend?"
The familiar Wizard Language caused the scales on Ista's spine to bristle in an instant, making a neat "pop" sound.
The muscle memory from childhood made this Demon Dragon unable to forget unmistakably, even after a thousand years.
He looked in the direction of the voice and saw a Black Robed Wizard smiling at him.
In an instant, Ista felt that he had returned to that pastoral world.
"This looks good, I'll eat this one..."
"What are you thinking about?"
Richard's voice interrupted Ista's memories, and the aura of the Abyss on him instantly put Ista at ease.
"Very... very glad to meet you, my lord." Ista said somewhat awkwardly.
Richard nodded. Although he wasn't particularly fond of having Ista as his lieutenant, he understood it.
After all, Ista came from the Wizard World and had some understanding of the wizard's habits, so having him assist wouldn't be offensive.
But honestly, having someone with Wizard PTSD as a deputy was quite concerning for Richard, fearing he might do something outrageous one day.
"It was unexpected that the Dominator would assign you as my assistant."
Richard smiled as he walked over to Ista and patted the scales on him.
"When you follow me back, remember your identity. You are no longer a Giant Dragon, you are an Abyss Demon.
Don't cause me any trouble.
As long as you don't make trouble, I ensure you will live comfortably."
Richard's voice was gentle, but his words carried undeniable authority. Combined with his prestigious identities as a Wizard and Abyss Blessing, Ista had no thoughts of refuting, only nodding obediently.
"No problem, sir. I have long been an Abyss Demon."
Richard nodded and then began contemplating how to bring these troops back to the Wizard World.
"Ista, what do you Abyss use for invasions?"
"What's used for invasions?" The question left Ista somewhat puzzled, but he answered truthfully, "In the past, it was the Nest, later using contracts and the Net Path."
Richard nodded slightly, a brief moment of hesitation flashing across his face.
"The Net Path... Am I really going to set up an Abyss Net Path entrance in the Goblin World?"
Richard had studied the transactions between the gods and the wizards; the transactions between the two civilizations are similar to ordinary cross-world transactions, except they didn't use the Wizard's Portal but rather the Holy Network Path created by the gods through their study of Abyss Net Path.
Now that wizards need to trade with the gods, they would obviously have to use similar means.
Establish a portal here in the Abyss?
Richard pondered this plan for a moment, then dismissed it.
Building a portal would require sending people to the Abyss, the round trip being time-consuming and difficult to measure.
"...It seems I can only manage to get into the Immortal Country world." Richard sighed softly.
As a Divine who rose against the Abyss, cooperating with the Abyss would unquestionably shake the fundamental beliefs. Even with propaganda to gradually erase the hatred for the Abyss, it would take until the priests who participated in the Abyss War all perished.
But evidently, the cooperation between the two civilizations is far more crucial than Richard's beliefs. Moreover, Richard could not afford to abandon this commandable power to set up the trade world in other wizards' worlds.
Resolving his mind, Richard asked Ista for an Invasion Scroll.
"Next, I will return to my territorial world to activate this scroll. Once I activate the scroll, quickly establish the Abyss Net Path."
Ista nodded obediently, a sycophantic smile on his ferocious dragon face.
"Understood, understood, I will certainly establish the Net Path promptly."
Having arranged everything, Richard departed for action, opening the Dimension Gate to the Wizard Dimension.
As for bidding farewell to Samuel... Samuel had already returned to the front line, starting a new round of combat with the God King of Ten Thousand Changes. Waiting to bid him farewell would take quite some time for Richard.
Upon entering the Wizard Dimension, the Secret Keeper immediately appeared beside Richard.
Being the embodiment of the Wizard Dimension, he naturally knew about those vying for Richard.
"Secret Keeper, is there something you need?" Richard asked calmly.
He wasn't worried about the Secret Keeper informing the Alchemy Crown about the Miracle Furnace. Since the Secret Keeper was an embodiment of the Wizard Dimension, personal secrets of this nature wouldn't be traded with others—even if it were the Crown Throne.
"Nothing substantial, I'm merely here to remind you of one thing."
"What is it?"
The Secret Keeper performed a Wizard's Salute.
"Your path has unfolded; proceed boldly. But on this path... remember well that you are a wizard."
Richard frowned slightly: "What do you mean?"
The Secret Keeper smiled beneath the hood.
"Nothing, just a reminder. After all, you almost got taken away.
Should I have not noticed, and you were enticed to another civilization, my loss would be significant."
"Is that so? I will remember."
Soon, a Dimension Gate opened behind Richard. Passing through it, Richard once again returned to the front line of civilization.
