Wizard: I Can Refine Everything

Chapter 26: Degraded Heart of Mayfly

Richard followed the rift back to the Divine Palace Laboratory, and behind him, the massive mycelium tentacles of the World Mushroom also entered the laboratory through the space rift, leaving Lan momentarily stunned.

"World Tree entity?" Lan asked, but before Richard could reply, it confidently continued, "Indeed, it is a World Tree entity. I hadn't expected you to have such a refined taste."

"Refined taste?"

"Such potted plants are quite rare," Lan explained. "In my database, there have been some studies on the distribution of World Tree entities. The records show that World Tree entities were once used as devices for world modification.

In some Dragon King's private world fragments, the World Tree also acts as an ecological balance device, as well as providing some unusual scenery. However…"

Lan examined the World Mushroom tentacles that had entered the laboratory, "Yours seems a bit different. Are you planning to use the World Tree plants to power me?"

Richard smiled faintly, "No, I plan to directly relocate the Divine Palace Laboratory into my Secret Realm. Main control, I would like to submit a request for laboratory relocation."

The projection of Lan dissolved once again, and the cold voice resonated beside Richard's ear.

[Received. Request has been submitted to the Research Director.]

Hog did not hesitate at all and immediately approved Richard's application.

[Request approved, detaching world anchor.]

[World anchor detachment complete.]

At the moment the world anchor was loosened, the entire laboratory shuddered slightly. Soon after, the World Mushroom began the process of space fusion.

The original Secret Realm Rift suddenly expanded, almost instantly encompassing the entire laboratory. It was like the gaping maw of a giant beast, swallowing the entire laboratory in one bite.

But in the next instant, the enormous rift disappeared.

[Relocation complete, undergoing material world form transformation.]

In the Secret Realm, the Fire Lizard Craftsmen noticed that a large gap suddenly split open in the sky. Through the rift, a Light Ball was brought from outside the world by the mycelium tentacles of the World Mushroom.

After the rift closed, the Light Ball lost its glow and transformed into a crystal sphere with a diameter of five hundred meters.

The Crystal Ball settled on the cap of the World Mushroom, and its outer layer immediately began to expand on the cap, as if melting away.

Upon closer inspection, one would find that the Crystal Ball didn't melt but transformed into numerous tiny crystal particles.

Soon, the Crystal Ball turned into a building resembling a sea star.

Back in the laboratory, the crystal walls behind Richard disassembled into small cubes, revealing a physical exit.

Richard stepped out the door, and a breeze carrying the scent of flowers caressed his face.

Looking down at the Secret Realm under his feet, Richard laughed heartily and immediately summoned Ulysses using his authority.

Before long, a rift appeared in the Secret Realm. Ulysses flew out from it, looking around in confusion.

"What treasure is this? Where are the people?"

He circled beneath the World Mushroom and found nothing. As he pondered, Richard's laughter suddenly rang in his ears.

"Above."

Above?

Ulysses looked up at the cap and his eyes glimmered. Then his eyes widened, his voice tinged with disbelief.

"Gah!? What on earth did you bring back?"

Coming onto the cap, Ulysses examined the sea star-like crystal structure before him. He could clearly sense an abundant force of rules within the building.

"What is this?"

"Divine Palace Laboratory, a laboratory left in the goblin world by the Pioneers."

"Goodness," Ulysses touched the Divine Palace Laboratory with his wing, and the next instant, a flash of light burst from the tip of his wing.

A hint of shock flashed through Ulysses' eyes.

"Remarkable, truly remarkable. In the Gods Civilization, this artifact could easily be a Main God's palace. What about the contents inside?"

Richard smiled mysteriously.

"Guess?"

Ulysses rolled his eyes at Richard and replied, "No need to say, you've definitely made a fortune this time. A complete laboratory… You really are lucky."

Richard chuckled and said nothing more.

The two of them entered the laboratory and Richard introduced the Great Shepherd to Ulysses.

"This is the Great Shepherd of the Church of the Lord of Flesh; you two can exchange some words."

A flicker of delight passed through Ulysses' eyes. The Divine Palace Laboratory was immensely useful to Richard, but not so much to him.

But this Great Shepherd was different.

If he could enlist him, the Miracle Sect could spread through the Blood and Flesh Court at an astonishing speed.

For him, a deity of the Miracle Sect, it was an absolute boon.

"Very well, you've really struck gold on this trip."

Saying this, Ulysses grabbed the Great Shepherd and flew out of the laboratory.

Great Shepherd was caught off guard by this grab, struggling desperately in midair toward the Divine Palace.

"Hey, hey, hey, let me have another look at the Divine Palace, just one more look..."

Hog glanced around, saw there was nothing concerning her, squeezed out through the exit, and with a flap of her wings, returned to her Dragon Nest.

In a short moment, the vast laboratory was left with only Richard.

Lan's projection appeared beside Richard.

"Using the World Tree's creatures for energy supply is nothing short of genius. Do you need anything else?"

"Of course, I do," Richard walked into the laboratory, "List out all the projects the laboratory can handle."

"Yes, Your Excellence of the Dragon King Species."

"…Stop calling me Dragon King Species, my name is Richard."

"Yes, Richard Your Excellence."

...

Pioneer's laboratory was divided into four levels, each corresponding to a different kind of world. The Second Level laboratory was meant for small worlds.

The Second Level laboratory had many pieces of experiment equipment, but the biological creation device that Richard most wanted did not exist.

According to Lan, such high-level equipment existed in only two Fourth Level laboratories. The major projects that the Second Level laboratory's equipment could handle were biological transformation and deteriorated cloning.

Putting aside the function of deteriorated cloning for the moment, Richard was particularly interested in species transformation.

Even goblins, such frail creatures, could become stronger than the average Dragon Blood Species after transformation. The technology of the Pioneer was close to being inexplicable.

If this technology were applied to warfare, with the capacity of the Wizard World, it could entirely cultivate the perfect cannon fodder Race.

"Lan, pull up the data on biological transformation."

"Yes, Richard Your Excellence."

Promptly, a vast amount of data was projected in front of him, and he looked at it for three days.

In three days' time, Richard had gone through all the biological transformation data from the Divine Palace Laboratory. According to Lan, this information wasn't complete; the Second Level laboratory could only access so much data.

Nevertheless, the sheer volume of information still nearly caused Richard's brain to crash.

An overwhelming influx of new knowledge left Richard somewhat groggy; he was like a person who had been starving for days, who couldn't restrain himself when faced with food, nearly gorging himself to death.

After meditating briefly, Richard's consciousness regained clarity. Although he hadn't digested much of the knowledge he'd seen over these three days, this didn't prevent him from reaching a conclusion.

"Indeed, it can't be applied to cannon fodder," Richard sighed.

Pioneer's technology wasn't complete, or rather, artificially customized life forms surely had a flaw: any biologically altered creature would inevitably fall into a quagmire of reproductive difficulties.

Like the Earth Goblins Richard had seen, although the Earth Goblins Race was strong, their fertility was very weak. According to the data library's records, the fertility rating of Earth Goblins was a Fourth Level, the pass mark for a Race to continue its lineage.

That is to say, a Race's fertility must meet this level to avoid natural extinction.

The remaining reproductive rating of the original goblins was a mere 1.5, almost on par with insects'. In the Pioneer's rating system, such fertility meant it couldn't be wiped out except by artificial means.

That is, as long as there isn't a powerful Race deliberately hunting them, no natural disaster could eradicate this Race.

Once this was confirmed, Richard dismissed the idea of customizing perfect beings.

Cannon fodder that couldn't breed rapidly was pointless.

However, although perfect beings could not be created, enhancing certain traits of a life form was indeed feasible. Goblins were too weak as creatures, and Richard needed them as his followers.

Thus, Richard planned to make some modifications to goblins to give this Race more potential.

Putting aside biological transformation for the moment, Richard stepped out of the laboratory and brought the Heart of Mayfly into the lab.

As another major project within the capability of a Second Level laboratory, deteriorated cloning sounded somewhat unappealing, but its effectiveness was top-notch.

With Origin Analysis Technology, Pioneers could now clone a World Master. However, the cloned World Master would lack Rule Power and a Soul, and there would be a high likelihood of physical mutations.

Hence, this technique was termed "deteriorated cloning" by the Pioneers.

This technology is generally used by Pioneers to create puppets for subjugating the natives. But in Richard's hands, this technology found a new purpose.

"Main control, analyze this organ."

"Yes, Richard Your Excellence."

After placing the Heart of Mayfly into a Space Bubble, Richard started waiting. Half an hour later, Lan provided an answer.

"This organ has a Fifth Level rating. If only this organ is subject to deteriorated cloning, then the first one can be cloned in six months. However, you know the characteristic of deteriorated cloning technology—if you wish to clone a usable organ, the time might need to double or even multiply several times."

Richard nodded slightly, "Just get it done. The World Mushroom will meet all your resource demands."

Richard had held the Heart of Mayfly for quite some time but had done very little research on it. Not because he didn't want to, but the organ's status was too high and beyond his ability to study.

One thing was certain, however; this organ could secrete a large amount of substances that promote life Evolution.

That alone was enough reason for Richard to clone it.

Even if the deteriorated Heart of Mayfly produced only a tenth of the original Mayfly Essence, relying on quantity, Richard could still cultivate Level 1 Creatures on a large scale.

At this moment, the goblin world had turned into Richard's backyard garden.

In his backyard, he had no need for a pack of lurking predators.
