Chapter 2 Richard's Current Situation
Drawing the curtains, Richard opened a Space Rift and tossed an eye and a pendant inside.
Then he turned and left the study, making his way to the laboratory downstairs.
The Floating City, although technically utilizing Wizard technology, hadn't changed much in architectural style. The tower forest on the upper level of the Floating City remained a tower forest, but now it looked more like a kind of Gothic cathedral.
As a Divine, Richard owned an entire cathedral as his abode.
The laboratory was divided by Richard into three zones: biological, mechanical, and test. Richard entered the test zone and activated its built-in protective measures. Subsequently, a life radiation as dazzling as the sun burst forth from Richard's body.
"Ah, it feels much better to release it."
Richard's clothes turned to ash under the life radiation, revealing his near-sculptural perfect physique. On this perfect body, two hearts were beating like drums in his chest.
Thump, thump, thump! Thump, thump, thump!
Richard closed his eyes to feel, and after a moment, opened them with some surprise: "Already fifty percent fused."
Ever since the expedition began, Richard had been merging the Rule Body. The Rule Body constructed from Life Rules had an excellent compatibility with the flesh body, and the fusion progressed effortlessly.
In just ten years since the expedition began, Richard's Rule Body had already fused fifty percent. Moreover, as the fusion progressed, the speed of integration hadn't diminished, but rather increased.
Richard compiled the data into a chart. At the current rate of growth, barring unexpected events, he would completely merge the Rule Body in six more years.
Just in time for the expedition.
After confirming the state of his body's fusion, Richard ended his indulgence and reined in the life radiation.
In Richard's control, these life radiations formed an Energy Cycle within him, circulating endlessly inside. Life Rules couldn't conjure Life Energy from nothing; all these life radiations came from Richard's energy.
Under the radiation cycle, Richard felt every cell in his body tremble.
Life Rules made Richard increasingly sensitive to changes in his body. He could feel his Life Core quivering slightly under the stimulation of the radiation cycle.
The secret to evolution lay in this.
But Richard wasn't satisfied with such slow evolution.
The Magic Power cycle began to flow, its long river-like Magic Power soaking into his body like water. Under Richard's control, the Magic Power started to issue an extremely deep and complex vibration.
In this wave, every Life Core in all the cells resonated.
Crackle.
A Life Core in one cell emitted an inaudible crisp sound. The stable sequence became disordered, and then reassembled under the influence of the Magic Wave.
Buzz!
A Magic Wave, almost like a shockwave, emanated from Richard's body.
In the next instant, Richard didn't need to collect the life radiation anymore, as the life radiations were automatically absorbed into his body.
Life evolution required energy.
Before long, Richard felt his empty body and gave a weak smile.
"Life Editing sure boosts physique quickly, but the consumption is a bit alarming."
Ordinary physique improvement was gradual, relying on tiny changes, like water wearing away stone. But with Life Editing in hand, this drip became something akin to a water knife.
Changes that used to take decades or even centuries got accelerated to just a few minutes due to Life Editing.
Pulling out a specially made crystal ball from his pocket, Richard tested his physique.
[Spiritual Power: 301.1, Physique: 351.4, Magic Power: 48000000, Rating: Four Rings Great Wizard]
"Still 0.1, quite balanced."
In these short few minutes, Richard's physique improved by 0.1. Don't underestimate this number; it's important to note that Richard was already a Great Wizard, and every minute advancement in his physique significantly increased his power visibly.
Richard now had higher Strength, agility, reaction, defense ability, and even energy storage compared to himself a few minutes ago.
Though this small advance wasn't enough to influence the battle's course, it was enough to give Richard a slightly noticeable advantage. And when ten or a hundred of these slight advances accumulate, the balance of victory inevitably tilts in his favor.
Pouring out a pile of Magic Essence from his pocket, Richard touched lightly, causing the Magic Power within them to vanish entirely.
Feeling the slight replenishment of energy within him, Richard exhaled slightly and did not proceed with another round of Life Editing.
Life Editing has a strong destabilizing effect on the Life Core, especially with Richard's kind of full body deep Life Editing. For the next seven days, he couldn't conduct a second edit. Otherwise, the Life Core would risk collapsing.
Finding some clothes to put on, Richard began Wizard training.
After merging with the Rule Body, Richard's body's energy reserves were increasingly larger, and his body grew bigger.
While Richard still appeared to be of normal size now, that was actually thanks to advanced Transformation Technique. If he revoked the Transformation Technique, Richard's body would be almost fifty meters tall, with movements carrying the power to shift mountains.
Yet energy is merely energy; without appropriate witchcraft to convert energy into combat power, it would be no more than a sandbag even with ample energy.
With the assistance of the Radiation Rule, Richard's witchcraft boundary expanded greatly. Some witchcraft which existed only theoretically could be entirely practical for Richard.
Bang! Crackle!
Various powerful witchcrafts appeared and disappeared continuously within the test zone, but even so, the laboratory's Energy Barrier was already nearing its limit.
Half an hour later, training ended.
Richard went to the mechanical zone, preparing to continue studying several Pioneer Relics obtained from the goblin world.
The giant Floating Cannon summoned by the mechanical God King was found by Richard after some effort from behind the curtain. However, since the control device was destroyed by the demon's self-destruction, Richard couldn't use these Floating Cannons for the time being.
But as soon as he walked to the test zone, he sensed a connection on the soul level.
"Hm? Installed so quickly? Although these natives are a bit stubborn, they really do work efficiently."
...
In the medical hall, Bai casually wiped the blood stains from the corner of his eye and bowed to the old werewolf beside him.
"Thank you, senior, for your help."
Next to him, the old werewolf had a somewhat complex expression. At this moment, he held a jar in his hand, and inside the jar was a fresh eyeball.
After transplanting the new eye, Bai felt a tremendous change in his vision.
Through this new eye, everything in the world became incredibly clear. If he wanted, he could even see tiny dust particles in the air under normal conditions, or the leg hair of an insect miles away.
"Evil ghost's power... No matter how I look at it, this doesn't resemble the power of an evil ghost." The old werewolf looked at Bai's new eye and shook his head slightly, "The evil ghosts you mentioned, I have encountered them before. They are generally based on pure power; even if they create things, those creations are usually just some elaborate treasures.
But this eye of yours and that arm of yours are nothing like creations of evil ghosts. These things are far superior to evil ghost creations."
Bai stubbornly shook his head.
"Senior hasn't seen the appearance of the evil ghosts. Of course, I wish that good people like you never have to see them."
The old werewolf chuckled and turned to a shelf on the side of the room, took a simply decorated long knife, and tossed it to Bai.
"Good person? Hahaha, I'll take your blessing. Your knife is already broken; this long knife was left as collateral by a customer of mine. He hasn't returned to redeem it in all these years, so I assume he's long dead.
You're about to venture into a dragon's den; going without a good weapon would be unwise."
Catching the long knife, Bai drew it in one swift motion.
The next instant, an aura like that of a Shura from hell erupted from the blade, turning the room into a ghostly domain.
"It's called Shura, and its pair is named Karmic Fire, which my junior sister took. I saved your life today, and I don't ask for any repayment.
But if you meet an enemy wielding Karmic Fire in the future, just spare him once for my sake."
Bai sheathed the long knife and bowed to the old werewolf.
"I will."
With that, Bai's figure vanished from the room.
The old werewolf gazed at the spot where Bai had disappeared, slowly standing upright.
"The evil ghost's contract... Has another monster set its sights on this world?"
The old werewolf walked out of the room and locked the medical hall's main door. Under the sunset, his figure transformed into a phantom-like mist and vanished into the air.
...
Whoosh!
Blood sprayed like a fountain from the severed neck, strewn along the muddy road with the corpses of werewolves.
"Don't come over! Don't come over!"
A black-furred werewolf quivered, stepping back with shaky hands holding a knife. In front of him, a gray-white furred werewolf calmly watched, long knife in hand.
Staring into those differently colored eyes, the mental defenses of the black-furred werewolf finally collapsed, and he stumbled backward in a panic.
Whoosh, thud.
The long knife spun through the air and returned to Bai's hand; in the distance, a headless corpse staggered and fell to the ground.
"Evil ghost, have you watched enough?"
"Not bad. I've almost understood your Evolution Road."
With the newly implanted Prosthetic Eye, Richard could closely observe the world he was about to invade from the Floating City.
"Evolution Road..."
Bai silently noted the unfamiliar term.
Though he was silent and introverted, it didn't mean he was a fool. While he regarded Richard as an evil ghost, he also acknowledged that Richard was the most learned evil ghost he had ever encountered.
Following the muddy path, Bai arrived in front of a mansion that had been scorched empty by a great fire.
In the past, this mansion belonged to the Quan family of Chengshan.
Taking a deep breath, Bai leapt over the charred courtyard wall. The mansion, as complex as a maze, appeared to Bai as broad paths.
Finally, Bai stopped in a courtyard.
Though the corpses in the courtyard were charred, one could still see the black skeletal remains with a metallic texture.
These skeletons had practiced the Vajra Skill in life, and at the Quan family, the Vajra Skill was a mandatory Magic Skill for all Young Master Guards.
Suddenly, a voice came from behind Bai.
"Oh, there's actually a surviving fish that slipped through the net."
