Chapter 1081: Deal with something for me
Haku didn't mind that Lin Fan didn't say anything in response or the fact that he was looking at her like she was a bother.
In fact, there was a faint smile that appeared on her face when she saw the way that he looked at her.
It was almost as if she enjoyed seeing him look at her like this.
There was even a trace of schadenfreude that was in her eyes as she looked at him like this.
It seemed that she was happy to see that he was having trouble accepting what she was saying.
But in the end, Haku continued by saying, "There's something that I need you to do and there's no need to look at me like that. This is something that will be helpful to you as well."
With a bitter smile, Lin Fan said, "But it'll benefit you more?"
Haku just smiled without saying anything.
Though the way that she looked at Lin Fan made it clear what she was saying even without her saying anything.
"Naturally it'll benefit me as well. It isn't as if I would do something if it didn't benefit me."
Lin Fan didn't say anything as he looked at Haku, but it didn't seem like she was planning to say anything in response.
So in the end, Lin Fan slowly gave a nod as he said, "Alright, let's hear what you have to say."
"I want you to go to the Kalos Empire."
"Huh?" Both Lin Fan and Rokuko were caught off guard when they heard this.
Then before Lin Fan could answer, Rokuko said, "You're just trying to send him to a place where he won't be able to come back from. I never thought that…"
Before Rokuko could say anything else, Lin Fan suddenly raised his hand to cover her mouth and stop her. After all, he knew that if she continued saying this, there was no doubt Haku would be seriously hurt by her words.
He could even see that there were traces of pain that were on Haku's face after Rokuko said these few words.
There was nothing to gain from hurting Haku like that, so he didn't let her go through with it.
Though it would be a lie to say that he didn't have a bit of a personal investment in this.
He had seen how Haku treated Rokuko, so he knew that she was someone sincere in terms of her feelings towards Rokuko.
Then to help Haku, he added, "I'm sure that she has her reasons for this."
Haku took a moment to come back to her senses before saying, "That's right, there's a reason why I'm sending you there."
As she spoke, her voice slowly filled with confidence again until she said, "It's not as if the Kalos Empire is a place that you can't go. The Adventurer's Guild is a neutral organization that can freely enter countries as long as there aren't any wars ongoing. Currently, we have a truce with the Kalos Empire, so there shouldn't be anything restricting you from entering that place."
Seeing the way that Rokuko looked at her, Haku added, "Adventurers are helpful to the countries that they visit, especially those that have a high rank. They are powerful resources that can be used to solve the local problems that the central government don't have time to deal with."
It seemed like she was desperate to make Rokuko understand what she was saying with the way that she explained it.
But it didn't seem like Rokuko cared what she said.
All Rokuko did was turn to look at Lin Fan as if she was waiting for him to confirm this.
That made a faint smile appear on Lin Fan's face as he looked at Haku.
This was similar to the way that Haku had looked at him earlier after seeing that he had been troubled. There was even a trace of schadenfreude that was in this smile as he looked at Haku.
Haku really looked like she wanted to do something to Lin Fan when she saw this, but she held herself back in the end.
The group from the Laver Empire couldn't help shaking their heads with a smile.
The way that Haku and Lin Fan were acting was as if they were brother and sister arguing over something.
This wasn't a side of Haku that they had ever seen before, but they didn't think that it was a bad thing for her to have this kind of side. After all, they had been following Haku for a long time.
This group knew just how hard it was for Haku to run the Laver Empire, so she never really had the time to act like this. Not to mention that there wasn't anyone that would actually act this way around her since they were afraid of her.
It wasn't as if the relationship between Lin Fan and Haku was a bad thing.
In the future, this might be one of the things that she looked back on fondly.
But after Lin Fan had his fill of teasing her, he said to Rokuko, "It's true. At the very least, there won't be a problem for me to enter the Kalos Empire as long as I do it with the status of an adventurer."
Rokuko didn't say anything at first, but she eventually gave a nod as if she was agreeing to this.
It was only because it was Lin Fan saying this that she was agreeing to this.
For Haku, this felt like she had been defeated to a certain extent which was a bit hard for her to accept. But in the end, she didn't say anything on this since it would just hurt her more.
Instead, Haku just gave a cough and continued by saying, "What I want you to do is head into the Kalos Empire and find a few things for me. They are related to the things that you've had the dungeon cores do, so it'll help you in the long run as well."
"Isn't that something that your people should be taking care of?" Lin Fan calmly asked without agreeing to anything.
Haku replied in a voice that was just as calm as his, "Perhaps, but I think that you would be willing to take this on since there's something that you have to gain from this."
Lin Fan narrowed his eyes to look at Haku without actually saying anything.
There was a moment of silence that filled this room as the two of them just looked at each other.
Lin Fan was just looking at Haku as if he was waiting for her to expose him while Haku was just calmly looking back at him as if she was waiting for him to confess.
In the end, it was Haku that broke the silence.
She knew that if this kept going, she would be the one on the losing end.
She knew that it was better for her to keep the momentum by speaking first, which was why she broke the silence.
"If you think that you've been keeping the things that you've been doing here silent, I can say that this isn't the case. If you think that you can move things in the Laver Empire without me noticing, then it's funny how gullible you are."
Lin Fan narrowed his eyes even more when he heard this, but eventually he said, "Alright, I'll think about it. It's not as if you expect me to go right away, right? I want information about this place before I make that decision."
Haku didn't say anything at first, but she eventually gave a nod and pulled out some papers that she placed on the table in front of her before sliding it over to Lin Fan.
Lin Fan was surprised to see this, but there was something else that he was feeling.
After all, the reason that Haku brought this with her was that she was confident that he would accept her request.
There was something almost smug about the way that she did this, but there was nothing that Lin Fan could say about it. So in the end, the only thing that he could do was take the pieces of paper to see what was written on them.
As he read them, the expression on Lin Fan's face started to change.
That was because what was written there wasn't just any normal information.
This was information on something that Lin Fan was quite concerned about.
For Haku to bring it now, it really seemed like she already knew everything.
"Is what's written on here correct?" Lin Fan asked in a slow voice after he finished reading.
"That's right. This is all the information that you'd want." Haku said with a confident smile.
Once she heard Lin Fan ask this, she was already certain that he would accept her request. After all, she had thrown in the perfect bait in these pieces of paper that she knew he wouldn't be able to reject.
As such, she had already been certain that he would do this favour for her.
Lin Fan shook his head and gave a sigh before handing the pieces of paper to Rokuko.
Haku narrowed her eyes when she saw this and it looked like she wanted to stop him, but she just couldn't since Rokuko had already taken the pieces of paper.
It didn't seem like Rokuko knew what she was looking at at first, but her expression eventually changed when Lin Fan pointed out a few things.
That was when she narrowed her eyes to look at Haku who just awkwardly looked away.
This was a bit of petty revenge, but Lin Fan was happy to take it.
