Chapter 9
It has been a few weeks since the incident. Nothing out of the ordinary really happened after that except Yulena has started avoiding me. I guess there might be some changes in her plans causing to stop her attempts at seducing me.
Other than that, Seris is clingy as ever, the class keeps avoiding, none of the girls’ talk to me… The basic usual stuff. I have been frequently visiting the dungeons as of late. Letting me get all sort of niche items, though most of them are useless.
Some were pretty unique though such as bracelet which granted x-ray vision, instantaneous teleportation rune with a randomly determined location, a ring with increasing appeal effect. The first one was confiscated by Seris sadly. If only I got to use it once for scientific purposes... As for the last item, well as you might expect it didn’t work at all.
My disappointment was immense and my day was ruined. The girls’ reaction was pretty much the same, though I still carry these around if they someday come to be useful. Especially the rune could come really handy at some point.
I had managed to get some skills too but I have yet to apply for a class. Usually, at the age of 16 I might be able to apply for one in any guild or shrine if I were to wish for one. I open my status window just to take a look at it.

I had managed to grow a lot during my years throughout school, though I didn’t really bother much about it. Might be a bit late to realize this but I noticed this world didn’t have any big incentive to grow stronger. There are no major threats looming over this world other than lack of men perhaps and even that wasn’t a big problem.
My luck hadn’t increased at all during this time. Apparently people are born with luck as a fixed stat and it’s very hard to increase it. Having 2 luck was especially low amongst normal people, it was probably indicating how bad my love life was. Maybe I should consider increasing my luck before trying to confess to more girls.
Still, since every day for me was so mundane I went on with my training and dungeoneering. If it weren’t for Seris my daily life would probably be even more boring. Other than that my weird buff from Reli seemed to be ending around next week. That was when my birthday was to arrive.
As I was thinking to myself while training Seris comes out of our house and greets me. I had been acting kind of odd around her after the experiences I went through during my last dream, almost suspicious if the events really happened. But it seemed quite unlikely as Seris didn’t follow up with any tongue to tongue action during all this time.
“Um, there is something I need to ask you, brother,” Seris asks while seeming kind of nervous.
“Sure what is it?”
“Would you mind if we were to go somewhere for your birthday next week?”
“We can just celebrate here you know.”
“No, I want to show you something! Please!”
“Alright, if you want to.”
Seris cheers in giddy and hugs onto me. She is quite easy to please. I tried asking her as to where we’d go for my birthday but Seris was not keen to answer that.
“That’s a secret, but it will be quite far away from here.”
“Are you sure? I think that’s a bit too much for my birthday.”
“The 16th birthday is special. So we also need to go somewhere special.”
Seris insisted so for my birthday. Usually my birthdays she would try doing something ‘special’ each time. Special bathing gift, a special cake, a special massage. Lots of special stuff or that’s the way she put it.
Now that I think about it I have spent my whole life holed up in this town, going somewhere might be nice. Seris might have similar feelings so it could be a nice vacation for both of us, how thoughtful of her.
---
A few days had passed, my birthday would soon be upon us. Today was the last day at school but it felt kind of scary. The glares upon me were more intense than before, class barely proceeded forward as even the teacher would spend time idly looking at me in between the classes. The glares should be something I would be used to by now but this time it was too much. I could feel my skin prickle with so many people staring at me with their eyes completely affixed.
I tried to hide behind a book but it didn’t dissuade them from looking at me. I just hoped the school would get over soon, why is it always me. Recess soon approached and I rushed off to the cafeteria. Seris followed behind me quickly, trying to keep up.
Unfortunately, it seems that I came out of the frying pan into the fire. The fire being the laser beam like stares now tearing holes into my body. All the girls I had ever met or confessed to were now staring at me like a predator keeping track of their prey. I could even hear panting sounds at times for some odd reason. Seris seemed annoyed with the girls staring at me and tried to proclaim me as her husband yet again.
But somehow it only managed to make their glares worse, with now Seris having a fair share of them too. It was quite weird how this was all occurring suddenly, hopefully, their anger subsides before the day ends at least. I don’t want to spend the last day at school to end at a bad note.
I spent the rest of the time eating my food under the intense pressure. Seris after having noticed how nervous I was getting had started patting my head. “Don’t worry brother, after your birthday these pests won’t trouble us.”
The way she worded her sentence kind of scared me, but that was just Seris being overprotective of me. I didn’t concern myself with school anymore for the rest of the day as I daydreamed on where we would go for my birthday.
As I was keeping those thoughts to myself, I was unaware as to how much my life would change during the course of the following events.
