Why is Background Character the Strongest Now?

Chapter 8: Chapter 8

Chapter 8

As the mana-rich wind brushed gently across the field, the ticking of the time-dilation zone slowly faded into silence. Ezra was now sealed within, and the world around him stood still.

KairosZeth sat lazily on a nearby stone, arms behind his head, eyes watching the sky. Ren stood beside him, silent, arms crossed, his gaze resting on the spinning time-clocks above Ezra's training zone.

A long pause stretched between them before KairosZeth spoke, almost casually.

"You know, it's strange to think how far humans have come. There was a time when mana techniques were hoarded like gold."

Ren didn't look at him, but replied, "The royals and nobles treated them like heirlooms. If you weren't born into power, your path ended before it even started."

KairosZeth chuckled. "They only handed scraps to the commoners. Weak techniques with more limitations than use. That's why your continent was always fighting itself… even while demons tore it apart."

Ren nodded slowly. "That's how it was—until he came."

KairosZeth's eyes narrowed slightly with respect. "The last emperor of the Ardent Empire… the Fourteenth Patriarch of the Ardent Bloodline. That man."

Ren glanced at him. "Lucien Caelum Ardent."

Even dragons remembered that name.

Lucien Caelum Ardent.

A man born in a time when humanity was divided, weak, and losing to the demon scourge. He wasn't the strongest warrior. He didn't slay dragons or split mountains.

But his mind was unmatched.

He studied every technique known to humans—every noble scroll, every forbidden spell—and from the ashes of a burning world, he created one technique that changed the future of mankind.

"Unity Flow Technique"

A mana circulation method so stable, so adaptable, that even someone with an F-Rank Core could grow.

And yet, even someone like Ezra Celestrian, born with a Mythical Core, could find it effective in shaping his foundation.

It had no incompatibility.

It had no gatekeeping.

It was designed for everyone.

Ren spoke again, voice low with meaning. "He gave the technique to all—nobles, peasants, orphans, criminals. Anyone who awakened mana… had a path forward."

KairosZeth leaned back and smiled faintly.

"And for that, dragons respected him. Not for power. But for wisdom."

Lucien's vision didn't end with the technique. After ending the Demon War, he united the remaining human kingdoms and built a new system.

No kings. No emperors.

Only a council of equals.

He became the First President of the Human High Council, and his empire dissolved peacefully—a ruler who stepped down after victory.

A man who knew that legacy wasn't power… but progress.

——————————-

As the dragon and the Sword Emperor spoke of old legends and coming storms, inside the sealed Time Dilation Zone, Ezra Celestrian was a world away—utterly consumed by his training.

Seated beneath a tree that shimmered with condensed mana, Ezra's breath was calm, but his core was burning.

Within his chest, the Mythical Core—a brilliant violet orb—glowed with increasing intensity. The surrounding mana was pulled toward him like water rushing into a whirlpool. Streams of energy entered his veins, circulated through his channels, and poured endlessly into his core.

And still—he didn't stop.

Ezra had trained relentlessly, focused on one goal: perfect mana control.

He didn't swing a sword.

He didn't move from his spot.

He cultivated.

Day after day. Month after month.

Whenever fatigue began to pull at his stomach, he swallowed one of the blue pills given by Ren—and returned to his trance.

The sun rose and fell, but to Ezra, there was no sky. No hunger. No sleep.

Only discipline.

Inside the sealed field, ten months passed.

Outside, only one month ticked by.

Then… something shifted.

Ezra opened his eyes.

A thin smile crept across his face.

The wind shifted unnaturally. The air around him began to vibrate, the leaves rustling with invisible pressure.

His long silver-white hair lifted, floating gently as if caught in an updraft of mana. His violet aura flared, crackling through the air like thunder wrapped in silk.

The Mythical Core inside him began to glow with dangerous brilliance—then suddenly, it started to shed layers.

It grew smaller, but denser.

Brighter, but deeper.

The energy inside it became far more compact, far more refined.

And with one final surge of energy—like a dam breaking—

Ezra Celestrian broke through to Rank 4.

The transformation was immediate.

Power rushed through his body like lightning.

His exhaustion vanished in an instant.

His mind sharpened, thoughts flowing like clear water.

His mana—once raw and wild—was now pure, smooth, and stable.

And his soul, too, had changed.

Rank 4 wasn't just a leap in strength.

It was an awakening of the spirit.

Now, illusions would falter against his mind.

Mental attacks would slide off his soul like rain against stone.

Any being below Peak Rank 5 would struggle to shake his will.

And above all, he could feel it—his capacity for mana had skyrocketed.

Because he wasn't like the others.

His core wasn't just high-ranked.

It was Mythical.

Ezra slowly rose to his feet, mana crackling around him like stormfire.

"This power… I can feel it," he whispered.

"I can stand against Rank 5 now."

The time-dilation zone hummed softly.

The faint hum of time energy began to fade.

Cracks appeared in the invisible barrier surrounding Ezra like fractures in glass. Light leaked through, and the sealed world around him slowly dissolved.

Through the shattering veil, Ezra saw Ren Kurogane and KairosZeth seated casually on chairs a few meters away, watching through a small projection barrier.

The moment the shield fully shattered, the wind shifted.

KairosZeth smirked as he rose to his feet. His blue eyes gleamed with approval.

"Good grief," the dragon said. "Your talent is far greater than I expected. Ten months… and you crossed an entire major realm."

Ezra stepped forward, bowed slightly, and offered a calm smile.

"Thank you, Great One. It was only possible because of you."

KairosZeth waved his hand.

"Don't say that. It was your own hard work and freakish talent. Don't diminish it."

Ezra didn't argue. He simply nodded in gratitude.

Ren stepped forward and placed a firm hand on Ezra's shoulder. He didn't speak for a moment—but the pride in his eyes said enough.

Then he smirked.

"Well done. But don't think training is over. Now that you're Rank 4…"

"It's time to prepare you for real combat. All types. No exceptions."

Ezra blinked.

"Understood, Master."

But then Ren added with a grin that could send shivers down a demon's spine:

"From now on, I'll mold you into my masterpiece."

Ezra felt a chill run down his spine.

For some reason, those exact words felt… familiar.

He couldn't place why.

But his body remembered them.

Still, he straightened his back and replied,

"I'm ready, Master."

KairosZeth yawned dramatically and stretched his arms.

"Alright, enough drama. You're done here. Get out of my sanctuary before I personally kick you both out."

Ren glanced at the dragon and chuckled.

"Still the same grumpy old lizard."

KairosZeth narrowed his eyes.

"What did you say?"

But before the ancient being could react, Ren tapped the space around them. The air shimmered, twisted—

And in a blink, Ren and Ezra vanished in a pulse of spatial magic.

KairosZeth stood alone, blinking at the empty air.

"Tch… slippery human."

He turned away, shaking his head—

—but a faint smile still lingered on his lips.

————————-

A ripple of space shimmered above the forest ground—and in a flash, Ezra and Ren Kurogane reappeared beneath the quiet canopy of trees.

The place hadn't changed. The silent forest still stretched endlessly in every direction, the wind barely rustling the leaves.

This was the same place where Ezra had once collapsed from teleportation, vomiting and dazed.

But this time, he stood tall.

Though a brief dizziness struck him, it passed quickly. His body had begun to adjust.

Ren gave him a glance and nodded with faint approval.

"Good. You're adapting fast."

He stepped forward, the forest crunching lightly under his boots.

"I've already tested your raw sword talent—your instincts, your insight, your growth under pressure."

"And now I've seen your cultivation ability firsthand."

He turned back to Ezra, his eyes calm but serious.

"You're remarkable in both areas."

Ezra blinked, unsure how to respond.

Ren continued.

"Your swordsmanship is already well-defined. Clean footwork. Precise strikes. You lack waste, and more importantly, you think when you fight."

"Given enough time, you'll develop your own sword style."

Ezra felt his chest swell with a mixture of pride and purpose.

"Thank you, Master."

Ren smirked. "Don't thank me yet."

He pointed up at the sky, where faint rays of sunlight bled through the branches.

"We have two months before the academy semester begins. That's all the time we have left."

"Our goal is simple: You will push your Advanced Swordsmanship to full mastery…"

"…and awaken your Aura."

Ezra's eyes widened slightly at the word. Aura.

A power known only to those who stepped beyond technique.

"Understood," he said, excited. "I'll give everything I have."

Ren crossed his arms. "Then let's begin. Tell me—what is Aura?"

Ezra inhaled, focusing.

"Aura is a trait of weapon users. It awakens when someone masters their weapon to a certain level and begins to walk their own path."

Ren smiled faintly, but shook his head.

"That's a decent explanation. But incomplete."

He stepped forward, drawing his sword with a soft metallic whisper.

"Aura is not just the result of mastery. It's the will behind the blade. The essence of your path made real."

"It is born not from technique… but from conviction."

The wind stilled. His blade shimmered faintly, as if responding to his words.

"You don't awaken Aura just because you're skilled. You awaken it when your sword starts to carry your truth. Your intent. Your purpose."

He turned to Ezra, eyes sharp now.

"So tell me, Ezra Celestrian… what does your sword fight for?"

Ezra's breath caught in his throat.

He didn't answer right away.

Because to reach Aura—he would first have to understand himself.
