Why Fate

Chapter 39: He escaped?

"What the fuck, Dorian?" Lillian hissed, her eyes narrowed slits.

"Mom!" Ajax exclaimed, his eyes wide as he tried to pull away from his mother's clutches.

"That was a bad word, mommy." Little Theo chimed in, steching his neck back to look up at Lillian. A small giggle slipping through from him.

Lillian glanced down at Theo and released her motherly hold on Ajax. The apology forming on her face before she spoke it. "Mommy's sorry, it slipped." She mumbled softly and leaned down toiss the top of Theo's head.

Clearly she didn't usually cuss around her children. Nemia made that at a mental note in her mind. Wanting to respect Lillian's boundaries she has herself with her children.

Dorian shifted on his feet, looking between the kids and his sister. Then to Nemia and over to Nik.

Milli cleared her throat and Nemia glanced over, realizing all of them did as Milli seemed to freeze up for a moment. Grivei nudged her hand, and she nodded. Thinning her lips slightly before speaking. "Would it be okay if the boys joined me to take Grivei back out per Dorian's request?..."

Nemia could tell Milli was trying to aid in getting the kids out of the room so they could discuss everything that was needed. Using the dog as a way to instantly get Theo's attention.

"Can I, mommy?" Theo asked, a hint of a whine in his tone.

Lillian lips thinned against themselves, eyeing Milli for a moment. Glancing over, she looked to Nik. "Go with them."

She didn't ask, she ordered and Nik just nodded his head once. Pushing away from the couchs arm, pushing through to get to Milli. Lillian's eyes followed Nik, only glancing over to Milli once he was settled next to her. "It's not against you, I just don't know you personally having only just met you. My children's safety comes above everything else." She looked pointedly at Milli then turned that same gaze to Dorian as she nudged Theo and Ajax towards Milli and Nik.

Nemia caught Milli's small nod. "Of course, as it should be." There was a waiver in her voice, Nemia noticed and surely the others did as well. Milli felt intimidated by Lillian, and in absolute truth. She should.

Still, she rose her head high. Reaching out for Theo's hand as he ran towards them, giggling softly as Grivei licked him in the face. Nemia sure did appreciate Milli's strength, standing tall in a room full of creatures who she'd never stand a chance against but still kept herself true. She was gritty and Nemia was here for it.

Julia passed through Nemia's vision silently, having finally moved from the couch. "I'll go too." She mumbled softly, keeping her back to Nemia while she stood in front of Milli.

"The more the merrier." Milli smiled brightly at Julia, which nodded her own response.

Nemia stared at Julia's back for a moment before lifted her brows and sighed, pulling her eyes away to look back over to Lillian. Offering her a small, apologetic smile.

Her eyes flicked over. Giving Nemia a brief, thin lipped smile before resetting her eyes on Dorian again, obviously waiting to speak again after her children were out of earshot.

'Yeah, she's definitely pissed off.' Nemia thought to herself, still not used to sharing her mind with another's aside from Adira.

'Ya think?' Dorian shot back, a half laugh echoing in her mind.

She glanced up at him.

'You should have warned her, dorian.' She chastised softly. Dorian gave her a look that told her he knew he should have without actually telling her.

"Now, I'll repeat myself. What in the actual fuck? Kyth escaped? When? Why has no one been warned, why has there been no announcements made? Are you fucking crazy for not warning me in the very least, for my childrens sake?!" Red in the face, Lillian let out a low growl. Her fists clenched at her side, she was warning Dorian.

Nemia instinctively moved to place herself between the two, keeping her back to Dorian and her eyes on Lillian. Whose eyes instantly flicked to her, though disregarded her instantly and set her eyes back on Dorian. As if Nemia wouldn't be an obstacle for her, which didn't sit right with Nemia but she chose not to give it much thought. She has no intention of trying to harm Lillian, but if she attacked Dorian. Well... That'd be on her then. Hopefully it wouldn't come to that though.

Dorian's hand came to rest on her shoulder, hearing and feeling what she felt. His intentions strong in feeling, he'd hold her back if he could.

"Calm down, Lillian. There is no immediate danger. The C.J.L.S. has been warned and are working on tracking him down as well as the one who helped him escape. They are also working on an announcement to give to our community, one that won't get everyone in such a panic like you are in at the thought of his escape." Dorian spoke in an even, official tone. One much like he used at the board meeting yesterday morning. Separating feeling from conversation for the moment.

Lillian sighed, her hands unclenching as she started to relax. "Okay... But when did he escape and who the hell helped? Do they have a death sentence?" She huffed. "And again, why didn't you tell me on the phone?" She stressed.

Dorian shuffled on his feet for a moment. "At the formal, Veera..."

"The siren bitch that tried to lure Nik to his end?" She stopped him, holding up a hand towards them.

Nemia could almost feel Dorian nod his head, though she couldn't see him in the position and could only truly feel his hand.

"That's the one. She was part of the distraction. Which she is now rotting in my dungeon." He chuckled at the thought and Nemia smiled, the memory of seeing the siren chained to the wall in the depths of the dungeon. Crying out to be released now that she'd "helped" them with her knowledge.

"She distracted, gathering a group susceptible to her song and then a bomb went off, planted in the ballroom. Shortly after Nemia had gotten Veera subdued, the other member responsible the attack revealed himself." He paused and Nemia turned to look at him, nodding her head to propel him to continue.

"That person, was Malcolm Jianu." He stated with a coldness Nemia hadn't expected.

Lillian brows creased. "Am I supposed to know who that is?"

Dorian sighed. "You wasn't here for it, but ten years ago and up and coming pack house that showed true potential to be a great clan was destroyed by that same man. Who just so happens to be Nemia's brother... Which here's a name you should remember, his true surname... Trugheta."

Lillian's eyes quickly flashed to Nemia at the name and instantly Nemia felt alone in herself. Once again, someone knew of something pertaining to her that she only found out a couple of days ago. It's almost as if her buried past was common knowledge to nearly everyone she talked to.

"Trugheta..." Lillian said it aloud, a curious look in her eyes. "If you're... Do you..." Lillians questions started and stopped but Nemia could pretty much feel in the gaps.

She reached her hand up to the collar of her tank top and pulled it down just enough to reveal the sun mark on her chest.

Lillians eyes grew wide and her mouth dropped. After a moment, she composed herself and looked back at Dorian. Her eyes still a bit wider than previously. "You could've also told me that your mate was The Vessel. The one the whole world has been waiting on."

Nemia let go of the collar to her shirt, letting it pop back into place as her hand dropped back to her side. The tension was down for the most part so she stepped away from Dorian so she could position herself to be able to look at the both of them.

"Well... I didn't want you to meet her as an idol to you sis. I wanted you to like her as naturally as possible without an adding the gods into the mix." He smiled softly and glanced at Nemia.

She smiled back lightly, her heart skipping a quick beat. The fact he wanted his sister to like her for her, rather than for a mark that she'd only just found out the meaning of that she couldn't explain for herself.

Lillian shrugged. "I don't think that would have changed my reaction to her either way. But I suppose I can understand why you would do that, so I'll forgive you for that one. But you still could've told me about Kyth.... Do you know where he is yet?"

Dorian shook his head and pressed his lips together firmly for a moment. "No. It wasn't until after we questioned Veera that we even realized Kyth was gone. I should have noticed it before though, when Malcolm disappeared in a black miasma. Kyth's miasma. It's signature look, but a lot was going on in that very moment that the fact that the attack could have been a distraction was the last thing on my mind." Dorian answered, his honesty evident in his words and the disappointment of himself in laced into those words.

"Okay, well... Hows the security on the witches?" Lillian asked, worry creeping back into her eyes.

"So far, unbroken. I'll get word if anything happens immediately. But luckily, even if he gets through to some. Two of them is on completely different planes of existence. One in the underworld, placed in the middle of the LaCreme. The other, in the celestial plane. He'll have a hell of a time getting to either of he can get a way into either plane in general." He nodded his head, confident in what he was saying.

Lillian relaxed almost completely then, though there was still a worry that clung in the air between them.

"So... Evil brother, even more evil dragon hell set on revenge, and the chosen Vessel from prophecy has appeared." Her words hung in the air thickly for a moment. "What can I do to help? If all this is true, then peace is over and war is coming. You'll need all hands on deck." She stared between the two, unblinking.

Nemia knew then, she wasn't going to take no for an answer and she honestly couldn't blame her. But her lack of knowledge in her part in this, made her feel uneasy.

"You should know, Lillian. I know nothing of this... Vessel business. I only just found out what the mark is and then the prophecy. Everything else, is a mystery and I don't know if I can do anything to actually help. I didn't ask to be this .... Hero the prophecy proclaims, but I don't want to become the negative side of that prophecy. I just don't know how to stop it from happening." Nemia confessed, glancing down at the floor.

"No true hero, chooses the path of one. The path is chosen for them. If you already felt like the hero, I'd be scared." Lillian smiled warmly as Nemia brought her eyes back up to her. Infectious as it was, Nemia smiled back.
