Chapter 303: Chapter 303: Mastering the Quantum Virus
"So, when are you coming over?" Serena asked, still a little annoyed after their conversation.
"If everything goes smoothly, I should be able to make it in a week or two," He Kui replied. He didn't need to conquer the entire moon; he just needed to trap the Atlantic Federation in a prolonged struggle there.
"Then I wish you the best of luck," Serena said, gently patting Haro's round head. She found herself missing him even more, perhaps due to the time they'd spent apart.
"I'll need it."
He Kui had a feeling that the next time he saw Serena, he might unlock a new ability. But for now, he was simply looking forward to the reunion.
After logging off from the radar surveillance, he felt exhausted and slumped into a chair. Managing three major battlegrounds — Orb, South America, and the moon — was wearing him down. Still, if he could stabilize these fronts, the Atlantic Federation's territory would be restricted. With the deterrent of Genesis, things might finally settle.
"Hang on a little longer," he told himself.
He glanced at the clock — there were still three hours before his meeting with Joule. Deciding to take a quick nap, he found an empty room and laid down, careful not to disturb Shi He and Su Lei.
The weather in May City remained pleasant, and the general morale seemed brighter than before. Both the citizens and the workers at the design bureau carried an air of newfound confidence as if the specter of war had finally drifted away. This optimism was understandable. Most people, when they didn't see something with their own eyes, lacked a sense of its reality.
"Do you think they'll support us opening a new front on the moon?" He Kui asked Iron Wall on the way to the design bureau.
Assigned to guard him personally, Iron Wall and Lica served as his dedicated escort. In fact, he had a full security detail, equal in scale to that of PLANT's highest officials like Patrick Zala or Siegel Klein.
"According to recent polls, 41% don't support us returning to the moon. They think as long as we have your Boaz Station, we're safe enough. Another 20% believe we should focus on building a second Boaz Station," Iron Wall replied.
"I see," He Kui said with a wry smile. To reassure the public, he had exaggerated Boaz's defensive capabilities, calling it the "Shield of the Coordinators." Yet with technological advances on both sides, the Federation would inevitably find ways to break through the shield, a view shared by those in power. However, for the sake of maintaining morale, they kept up the pretense.
"Hopefully, this war ends soon," Lica said with a small prayer.
"But peace won't come unless we make them submit first," Iron Wall argued, shaking his head.
"Maybe," Lica laughed, ending the topic. Soon after, they arrived at the design bureau, where all eyes followed He Kui as he made his way inside.
"Sorry to bring you in on short notice," Joule greeted He Kui as he entered the meeting room.
Along with Joule and Amafi were Erin and Curadis. They motioned for He Kui to take a seat opposite them.
"Amafi was just saying that research on the Resurrection Gundam is going well. Combined with your Liberator and Oracle, we now have enough single-unit firepower to outmatch the Atlantic Federation," Erin said with a pleased smile.
"Yes," He Kui agreed.
"The next phase is a lunar assault. According to our intel, the Federation's lunar defense system is on par with their Panamanian base," Amafi continued, pulling out a secure laptop encased in metal.
"He Kui, see if you can break through their system."
"Alright," He Kui replied, taking a seat at the laptop.
Watching him, everyone started mentally timing how long he'd take. Even Iron Wall, waiting outside, turned to Lica.
"How long do you think it'll take him?"
"Shouldn't the question be whether he can break through at all?" Lica replied.
"Oh, you still don't get your old friend?" Iron Wall chuckled. "When has he ever failed?"
Lica's mind drifted back to their academy days. He Kui was always quiet, keeping to himself, but exuding a silent strength that commanded respect.
On her part, Joule was watching He Kui with a sense of gravity. If he said he could do it, she trusted that he had the means. And if Patrick was right, and He Kui really had mastered a powerful quantum virus, then their chances of victory had just risen significantly.
Amafi and Joule exchanged a meaningful glance, while Erin and Curadis, too, watched He Kui with mounting anticipation. For them, the stakes couldn't be higher.
"If He Kui has indeed mastered the quantum virus," Joule thought to herself, "then perhaps this war could be brought to an end."
Oblivious to everyone's thoughts, He Kui plugged in a flash drive and launched his quantum virus program. The firewall was slightly more robust than expected, but a quantum virus, which transcended their current technology, easily dismantled it. Even as he deliberately held back to avoid suspicion,
he managed to breach the system in five minutes.
"It's done."
