Chapter 492: 28 I don't want to die!!!
Early the next morning, when Bai Wei and Vic stepped out of the Hunter's Hut, they happened to see Ivana returning from outside.
Feeling somewhat guilty, Ivana raised a few wild fruits she had picked on her way back before they could ask anything and said, "I ran out of food, so I went to get some. Here are two for you."
Ivana tossed them the fruits, and Bai Wei caught them with a smile: "Thank you, Holy Lady. But it's quite dangerous to go out before the sun is up. If something like this happens again, why not take this guy with you?"
As Bai Wei spoke, he patted Vic's head.
Ivana instinctively wanted to say "No need," but then she suddenly thought that by doing so, wouldn't she just be conveniently keeping Vic away from Bai Wei?
After realizing this, Ivana nodded lightly: "I understand. If it happens again, I'll take Vic... if he's willing."
Vic nodded repeatedly: "Of course, no problem. If there's anything I can help you with, just let me know. I'm a hunter, after all."
Ivana pursed her lips and chose not to delve further into the topic. Instead, she left with a quick "Let me prepare, and then we can leave" and hurried back to her Holy Daughter's hut.
Afterwards, Vic looked at Bai Wei: "Priest Ulu, do you really want me to protect her, or do you want me to... um, watch over her?"
Bai Wei understood that Vic meant "observe," and he smiled as he replied, "How rare, you've figured it out."
"I just thought you wouldn't be so kind-hearted as to want to protect someone else," Vic said honestly.
"Tsk, even if it's true, no need to say it so bluntly." Bai Wei threw all the wild fruits in his hand to Vic, "Eat something to shut your mouth."
Vic caught the fruits but didn't start eating immediately. He looked longingly at them, then asked Bai Wei, "Don't you want any? You didn't eat much last night."
"Don't worry," Bai Wei said with a smile, "I use my brain more, so I don't need to eat much. You rely on your body, so you should eat more."
Vic didn't catch the underlying implication that Bai Wei thought he lacked brains. Once he knew Bai Wei didn't need the fruit, he happily started munching away.
Watching Vic devour the fruits, Bai Wei couldn't help but sigh softly.
He hadn't eaten properly for a long time. This frail body, not his own, neither needed much food nor could taste it, so he could only watch Vic eat.
But it's good to be full.
Bai Wei could sense that the peaceful times were running short.
Not long after, Ivana came out from the hut, now wearing a ritual grey robe.
The ritual robe should have been a symbol of purity, white as snow, but Ivana's robe, due to its age, despite great care, had lost its former purity, leaving a feeling of sullied sanctity.
"I'm ready," Ivana said, holding a staff two heads taller than herself, "We can set off now."
And so the trio set off again.
Ivana led the way, speaking to Vic as they walked, "Half a month ago, I also took you to the hut from yesterday. Do you remember?"
"I remember." Vic nodded repeatedly, "As soon as I went in, I remembered. Ade and I stayed overnight there. You spent the night in another room, just like last night, but... at that time, you seemed to be alone."
Ivana responded with an "Mm," her expression unchanged: "At that time, my grandmother had already fallen sick, bedridden, so you never saw her. But it's not what I wanted to talk about; instead, it's..."
She waved the staff in her hand.
"I hadn't yet officially received this ritual staff from my grandmother, and according to the God of Senluo's rules, I couldn't take you inside. But it's different now, I'm officially the Holy Daughter, so you can listen to me from now on."
Seeing Ivana still trying to "lure" Vic, Bai Wei, walking at the back, couldn't help but laugh, "The God of Senluo has been dead for so many years; do those rules still need to be followed?"
Bai Wei's words displeased Ivana, and she said, "The deity is dead, but the rules... are also dead..."
Maybe realizing something wrong with her words, Ivana quickly corrected herself.
"The God of Senluo is indeed dead, but His power remains here. We still rely on His power to fight the night, naturally needing to follow His rules. Besides..." Ivana paused, "What if He comes back one day?"
"Are you talking about resurrection?" Bai Wei, watching Ivana's back, said with a smile, "Holy Lady, whether human or deity, once dead, they cannot be resurrected."
Hearing this, Ivana's body trembled involuntarily, feeling that Bai Wei's words had hidden implications.
"Priest Ulu, when you say that, do you think you understand the divine?" Ivana said coldly, "Do mortals dare to speculate the deity's might?"
"This is not speculation, but a fact," Bai Wei leisurely responded, "If He could have revived, this land wouldn't have become like this. Accept the reality, Holy Lady, in the fight against death, be it deity or human, they are equally fragile and powerless."
