Chapter 436: Sixty-four How would you act then?
Hewinia's face was a picture of astonishment as she watched Karen point at her and utter those words.
Even more so than when she had initially seen Karen's appearance.
Phinis's face quickly darkened too, his eyes brimming with anger, "What are you talking about?!"
"What's the matter, Phinis, are your ears not working?" Karen looked at Phinis askance, "No wonder, I've heard that when your sister died, she was only separated from you by a piece of cloth, yet you had no reaction, still dreaming of the Lawrence Family's rise... Oh? Do you want to kill me?"
Phinis's Magic Wand was already poised at Karen's nose.
"You're very welcome to repeat that if you'd like," Phinis said coldly, "Do you think that if I were to kill you now, the Chu Family would step forward to protect you?"
Faced with Phinis's threat, Karen simply chuckled, "Indeed, the Chu Family won't protect me, and in all likelihood, they would be quite happy to see you take action and 'dispatch' me. But would that really be wise? Kill me, and does the Lawrence Family still want to participate in this grand celebration? Have you forgotten what the school rules are?"
Phinis's eyes narrowed gradually.
"So don't try that set of tactics on me; they won't intimidate me," Karen stretched out his greasy hand to push away Phinis's Magic Wand, speaking at his leisure, "And don't get angry or make threats so easily. If you speak harshly but fail to follow through, everyone will know exactly what you're made of, Phinis."
Hewinia saw that Phinis's hand holding the Magic Wand was trembling ever so slightly in the face of Karen's mockery.
It was the first time she had seen Phinis lose his composure like this.
Clearly, Karen knew Phinis very well, and it was very likely that this sort of conversation had happened before.
"Your composure is even worse than that lady's, Phinis." Karen turned his head to look at Hewinia, "I told you to hand her over to me, yet she didn't lose her temper, but you're the one getting all worked up."
"Miss Hevnia is my guest," Phinis said coldly, "I will naturally protect her."
Though he said this, Phinis had already lowered his Magic Wand.
"Yes, yes, 'protect'," Karen said, "I just want to sleep with her, no need for this talk of protection, right? What do you say, Miss Hevnia, would you like to sleep with me tonight?"
To be honest, after learning of Hewinia's true identity, this was the first time she had encountered someone like Karen.
"Sorry, Mr. Karen..." Hewinia replied politely while carefully weighing her words, "I do not entertain such thoughts."
Though she said it politely, Hewinia still deliberately emphasized her tone to express the anger she was restraining.
Upon hearing Hewinia's response, Phinis stepped forward again.
"Since that's the case, there's nothing left to discuss," Phinis said icily, "Karen, do not think we can't do without you. Even if the Lawrence Family doesn't receive the Lord's blessing, we will absolutely not abandon my guest. Our agreement is over. Let's go, Miss Hevnia."
With that, Phinis intended to leave.
Hewinia also felt that the meeting had deviated quite a bit from her expectations and followed Phinis.
However, as they were about to leave, Karen let out another "keh keh keh" of laughter from behind them.
"Hehehehe, this is interesting, really interesting. Phinis, I do so enjoy seeing you put on this pretentious act. Do you think you are the only smart person in this world aside from yourself?"
Phinis stopped in his tracks, "What do you mean?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Karen said with a chuckle, "When I invited Miss Hevnia to bed, you didn't interfere; you waited until Miss Hevnia had rejected me and expressed her displeasure before you spoke up. So deep down, you were hoping as well, weren't you? Hoping that Miss Hevnia, for the sake of the celebration, would agree to my request, making it a matter of her own volition."
"Do you think Miss Hevnia will believe you?" Phinis looked at Karen coldly, "You're just projecting your own disgust onto everyone else in the world."
"Yes, my face indeed is disgusting, but what of it?" Karen wasn't angry, just kept chuckling, "I have Golden Note, I am of the Chu Family. Even if my Golden Note is painted on my pus-filled sores, even if the people of the Chu Family don't want to recognize me, that doesn't change the fact that I was born superior. In a way, we're not so different. I have a dirty face; you have a dirty heart... heh heh, don't look at me like that. You know it's useless; I've been used to such looks since I was a child."
Saying so, Karen downed a whole cup of hot chocolate in one gulp, and then, while licking his lips, continued with a smile.
"Alright, let's stop with the jokes and get down to business."
"...Jokes?"
"Yes, just jokes," Karen said indifferently, "a small retaliation for making me wait here for nearly an hour. And as you know, Phinis, compared to a hypocrite like you, there's someone I dislike even more. Do you think I could really care for the 'bargaining chips' you offered me? No, no, no, there has always been only one reason I was willing to join you."
He paused.
"That is simply to prevent the Chu Family from achieving the Lord's grace, nothing more."
This sudden turn of events bewildered Hewinia; she instinctively looked towards Phinis, and then noticed that Phinis was also looking at her.
