When the Doctor Uses A Hack

Chapter 1306: There is Only One True Desire! (Extra for Tiger Walking Like a Cat/54)

The forensic expert in his fifties explained the man's condition in detail.

The captain of the criminal investigation team began analyzing the case.

He quickly processed the victim's cause of death and interpersonal relationships, forming a relatively clear framework of connections.

But!

After listening, Chen Cang also fell into deep thought.

Since the deceased had a prior history of good health and was diagnosed with hepatic coma?

What could possibly explain this?

What might cause acute liver failure?

At this time, Chen Cang didn't stare at the big screen pondering interpersonal relationships, the cause of death, or identifying suspects...

He was focused on one key question: What caused the victim's coma?

He believed that finding this cause would unravel the victim's true cause of death.

Sometimes, the work of forensic experts and physicians overlaps.

Both are tasked with figuring out the underlying causes of a patient's condition or death.

However, one seeks treatment.

The other seeks to uncover the truth.

Soon, after the introduction concluded, everyone's attention turned to Jiao Ling and Chen Cang.

"Director Jiao, who is this?"

The deputy director of the municipal bureau looked at Chen Cang and asked with some confusion.

Jiao Ling introduced, "Director, this is Professor Chen, a doctor in the emergency department at the rescue center. He solved the last situation, so I invited him here."

The middle-aged man frowned slightly upon hearing this but nodded afterward.

His frown was due to concerns about leaks, but knowing Jiao Ling's character, he believed Jiao Ling wouldn't make such a mistake.

The man glanced at Chen Cang and couldn't help but ask, "Professor Chen, do you have any thoughts after reviewing the case?"

Chen Cang shook his head. "Could I look at the patient's hospitalization records?"

As soon as he said this, the surrounding team members all turned toward him, awaiting the director's instructions.

Xu Chutai furrowed his brows in thought for a while before suddenly saying, "Give them to him."

Chen Cang took the files and began reviewing them.

The causes of unexplained coma can be varied.

Cardiac-related, pulmonary-related, hepatic-related, renal-related, pancreatic-related, hematological conditions, and so forth...

Although appearing chaotic at first glance, upon closer inspection, one can often find traces of clues.

Chen Cang's sensitivity to laboratory test results was something others could never comprehend.

Combining a master-level skill in lab test analysis with Old Mr. Fang's teachings enabled Chen Cang to develop his unique insights into various bodily indicators.

After a thorough review, Chen Cang slightly furrowed his brows.

He asked, "Did the deceased drink alcohol before passing away?"

As soon as those words were spoken, everyone nodded; this detail wasn't surprising.

After all, it was mentioned when discussing the case.

At this moment, Chen Cang suddenly asked, "Bring me the records for the other two deceased persons."

If there's suspicion of a serial case, connections between incidents must be sought.

This time, after brief consideration, Xu Chutai ordered someone to retrieve the files for the other two individuals.

These two cases had been sitting for over half a year without progress.

If not for this current incident, these cases likely would've remained forgotten.

Chen Cang instructed everyone to clear the items off the table and began analyzing the death certification and medical records of all three individuals.

This time, everyone fell silent.

Although there was skepticism among the group, Jiao Ling had brought the expert.

Their current cases had stalled entirely.

There were no leads to pursue.

Perhaps Chen Cang might uncover some clues!

Looking at these test results, they were basically normal!

Otherwise, the diagnosis wouldn't be unexplained hepatic coma.

The three cases showed startling similarities.

The symptoms displayed by the deceased before death were nearly identical, all suspected to stem from food poisoning.

The official causes of death were coma-induced fatalities.

Moreover, all three individuals died while hospitalized.

The difference, however, lay in the specifics: one had hepatic causes, one renal, and one pulmonary!

Three unexplained coma-induced fatalities.

Yet these occurred in three different hospitals, ruling out hospital-related factors.

Occupations...

What might the connection be?

Currently, even Xu Chutai didn't know whether there was an explicit link between the three cases.

The incidents were spread across half a year.

Their association was due solely to the intuition gained from years on the criminal police force, subtly detecting discrepancies within the cases.

However, they couldn't definitively confirm whether there was a connection.

The forensic experts deemed the three cases unrelated.

After all, one involved hepatic coma, one renal-related, and the other pulmonary-related.

If the three were unconnected, grouping them together would clearly hinder proper judgment.

But what if there were a connection?

Right now, the investigation was at an impasse.

They had brought in many experts, yet none could provide satisfactory conclusions.

Looking at Chen Cang's youthful appearance, to be honest, Xu Chutai wasn't particularly hopeful.

Just as the group was beginning to lose focus, Chen Cang suddenly spoke!

"Have you examined what they ate and drank prior to death?"

"In the most recent case, the deceased drank alcohol and exhibited signs of food poisoning. Have you examined the alcohol?"

Xu Chutai turned to the vice captain of the criminal investigations unit.

The latter quickly replied, "Yes, we did. The alcohol was sealed factory-made. The family claimed they personally bought it, freshly opened. We even verified with the receipt."

Chen Cang nodded slightly after listening. "Where did he drink the alcohol?"

"The deceased was the boss of a renovation team. He had it in a newly renovated house, after finishing work and settling the payment."

Chen Cang's eyes suddenly lit up upon hearing this.

He quickly grabbed the files of the other two individuals for closer inspection.

After a brief moment, Chen Cang said:

"These three individuals likely shared the same method of death."

As soon as this was said, the surrounding atmosphere turned tense.

All eyes were fixed on Chen Cang.

Xu Chutai's gaze sharpened. His years of experience in the criminal police force carried an innate authority. He locked onto Chen Cang and asked, "Explain further?"

Chen Cang continued, "I'm unfamiliar with casework."

"But I am familiar with medicine."

"The causes of death for these three individuals may be identical—they all likely died from poisoning!"

The word "poisoning" sent a chill through everyone in the office!

If this were true, the implications would be alarming.

A serial killer case!

"Professor Chen, could you elaborate further?"

Chen Cang suddenly asked, "Are blood samples from the patients still preserved?"

"Yes, there are!"

Chen Cang nodded. "Conduct an urgent test for trichloroethane and dichloropropanol."

Xu Chutai immediately ordered, "Test it now!"

These samples weren't stored at the police station but in the hospital.

After the patients' reports were filed, two tubes of blood had been stored for precautionary purposes.

Now, they were proving invaluable!

The staff quickly began arrangements, making calls to the hospital.

The hospital promptly began testing the samples upon receipt of the request.

Once more, the office fell into silence!

Everyone was waiting for the results to come back.
