Chapter 13: Chapter 13
"The Preliminary Refinement Method of Chakra"
"The Essentials of Mastering the Three Body Art"
Naruto rushed home, his excitement palpable as he eagerly opened the book. Meanwhile, Aizen observed the contents alongside him, his sharp eyes scanning the pages with calculated interest.
"Chakra is the source of energy for ninjas. The more chakra one possesses, the stronger a ninja may become."
"The founder of the Will of Fire, the First Hokage, possessed an unimaginable amount of chakra, earning him the title of God of the Ninja World in his time."
"Subsequent Hokage, such as the Third, were also formidable. Though his total chakra didn't rival the First's, the Third Hokage was revered as the Professor of Ninjutsu due to his mastery of countless techniques. His true strength remains unknown, and some speculate he may have even surpassed the First Hokage."
As Aizen read alongside Naruto, his brow furrowed deeper with each line.
Is the Third Hokage truly that powerful? he wondered.
He recalled the elderly figure of the Third Hokage and the chakra he had sensed from him. While the Third was undoubtedly experienced, calling him the strongest in the ninja world seemed like an exaggeration. If this book was to be believed, and the Third Hokage was indeed the pinnacle of power in the ninja world, then the overall strength of this world might be lacking.
Aizen couldn't shake the feeling that the book was biased, perhaps even containing personal agendas. He felt a pang of disappointment. His greatest concern was discovering that the ninja world was a low-dimensional realm compared to the Soul Society. Such a revelation would drastically diminish the value of the ninja world in his eyes.
Nevertheless, Aizen continued reading patiently.
"A skilled ninja must master three core disciplines: Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, and Genjutsu."
"Ninjutsu involves extracting and utilizing chakra from the body to achieve various effects, either directly or through techniques."
"Taijutsu, as the name suggests, relies on physical combat. It generally doesn't require chakra, making it heavily dependent on the user's physical strength and conditioning."
"However, mastering Taijutsu is a tedious process, demanding both time and unwavering perseverance."
"Taijutsu is further divided into two styles. The first, known as the Hard Fist, focuses on causing external damage such as fractures and tears. The second, the Soft Fist, uses chakra to target internal organs and meridian systems, inflicting internal damage."
"Lastly, Genjutsu involves using chakra to trap an opponent in an illusion, dealing both physical and psychological harm."
"Of the three disciplines, Genjutsu requires the most precise control over chakra."
The book then delved into the methods of refining chakra.
Naruto was captivated. Eager to begin, he followed the instructions in the book and made his first attempt at refining chakra.
"The way chakra is used seems similar to Reiatsu. Given Naruto's natural talent with Reiatsu, he should pick this up quickly," Aizen thought, nodding to himself.
He chose not to follow the book's instructions for refining chakra. The compatibility between Reiatsu and chakra was still unknown. Only after confirming that chakra could enhance his abilities without conflict would Aizen consider practicing it himself.
Naruto spent the entire night in meditation.
Chakra and Reiatsu shared similarities—both existed within the body's pathways and could be harnessed through focused meditation. However, Reiatsu felt more elusive and unpredictable compared to chakra.
Drawing from his experience with Reiatsu, Naruto found the process of extracting chakra relatively straightforward. By morning, he opened his eyes, exhaling a deep breath. Despite staying up all night, he felt no fatigue. His eyes sparkled with excitement.
"I did it," he whispered, feeling the chakra flowing through his body. He clenched his fists, a wide grin spreading across his face. "One step closer to my goal."
Reiatsu and chakra coexisted harmoniously within him, like two complementary forces flowing side by side.
"Alright, time to learn some ninjutsu!" With chakra successfully refined, Naruto felt unstoppable. He opened the second book, The Essentials of Mastering the Three Body Art.
"The Three Basic Techniques are fundamental for all ninjas. Mastery of these techniques lays the foundation for becoming a strong ninja."
"The Three Basic Techniques are the Transformation Technique, the Clone Technique, and the Substitution Technique."
"Transformation Technique: By using chakra, the user can temporarily alter their appearance or that of an object. The essence of this technique is change."
"Clone Technique: This technique creates an intangible, controllable clone using chakra. Its essence is creation."
"Substitution Technique: By transferring the impact of an attack to another object, the user can evade harm. The essence of this technique is transference."
After briefly reviewing the techniques, Naruto decided to try them out.
"Let's start with the Transformation Technique. I'll try to look like the Third Hokage," Naruto thought. He formed the necessary hand seals, as most ninjutsu required them. Some elite ninjas could perform techniques without seals, but Naruto was far from that level.
"Transformation Technique!"
A puff of white smoke enveloped him. When it cleared, Naruto's appearance had changed—but not as intended. His arms and head were misaligned, and his face was distorted.
"Did it work? I guess I've got talent!" Naruto exclaimed, turning to a mirror. His expression immediately fell. "No, that's not right. Let's try again."
"Transformation Technique!"
This time, the result was even worse. Naruto frowned. "Maybe I'm not forming the seals correctly. Let's try the Clone Technique."
"Clone Technique!"
The result was equally disappointing. Ten minutes later, Naruto sat on his bed, panting and frustrated.
What's going on? Why can't I get such basic techniques right?
Though he had an abundance of chakra, controlling it proved far more difficult than he'd anticipated. Unlike Reiatsu, which felt natural to him, chakra was stubborn and unwieldy.
Determined not to give up, Naruto reopened the book and carefully reread the section on chakra control.
"Mastery of the basics: speed and accuracy in forming seals, combined with precise chakra control, are essential."
The book didn't provide specific training methods, but Naruto had an idea. Perhaps chakra control could be improved through exercises similar to those used for Reiatsu—like attaching chakra to specific body parts for specialized tasks.
For example, climbing trees or crafting.
After lunch, Naruto headed to the training ground. He focused on channeling chakra to his feet and attempted to climb a tree.
Thud. He fell to the ground almost instantly.
"Again!" he shouted, charging at the tree once more.
By nightfall, Naruto returned home battered and exhausted. Despite his efforts, he couldn't stay on the tree for more than a second. His chakra reserves were vast, but controlling it felt like trying to tame a wild animal. The frustration was overwhelming, overshadowing the sense of accomplishment he'd felt with Reiatsu.
After a quick wash, Naruto collapsed onto his bed, falling into a deep sleep. He hoped that in the sealed space, Aizen could help him find answers.
Drip. Drip. The sound of water echoed in the pitch-black sealed space.
Naruto awoke abruptly. This time, the air felt colder than usual. On the walls of the space, dark red trails seemed to creep slowly, almost like veins.
