Chapter 16: Boros, The S-Class hero!
Boros and Genos walked through the bustling streets of a highly populated city.
The two of them were on their way to the facility where the next Hero Exam would be held.
"I have to say, the doctor did an excellent job with this disguise," Boros commented as he looked around.
"People actually don't find me suspicious at all."
"I told you," Genos replied, "He's one of the best mechanics and inventors this Earth has to offer."
"I can only think of two others who might be on his level…"
"But never mind that. Don't forget, you have to pass this exam with perfect scores across the board."
Genos glanced at Boros seriously.
"Do you remember all the theories I taught you?"
Boros grinned, clearly confident.
"Oh, come on. Have some faith."
"You and Saitama made me study non-stop for the past five days, and I'm no idiot."
"I'll definitely pass this stupid exam and get into S-Class."
"I'll hold you to it," Genos responded as the two arrived at the test facility.
Genos wished him luck and left Boros to take the exam.
Of course, Boros didn't register under his real name. Instead, he used a fake name he and Genos had come up with beforehand, Kenji, meaning "strong."
While the exam was taking place, Genos headed to the room where the examiners were stationed and put in a good word for Boros.
In the end, Boros passed with a score of ninety-nine out of one hundred, losing just one point due to a few grammar mistakes.
Hey, cut him some slack, he had only five days to learn the basics of English grammar and how to be a hero, all while Saitama loomed over him menacingly.
Thanks to his nearly perfect score and Genos's recommendation, Boros was placed into S-Class, ranked 16th, just above Tanktop Master and Puri-Puri Prisoner, but still below Genos and Metal Bat.
Almost immediately after receiving his status, Boros was assigned to his first mission.
The Hero Association was working overtime, so as soon as they got a new pair of hands, they put them to work.
With his power-limiting armor, Boros fought at around the same strength level as Darkshine, making him more than capable of handling most monsters, even Dragon-level threats.
Thanks to Genos's lessons on hero theory and rules, Boros performed remarkably well from the very start.
Unlike C, B, and A-Class heroes, S-Class heroes enjoyed certain privileges. They weren't required to assist in rebuilding cities or evacuating civilians. Instead, they focused solely on monster attacks.
So Boros spent his days patrolling the streets, often accompanied by Genos at first.
However, after some time, Genos decided that Boros had learned enough about interacting with humans and allowed him to patrol on his own.
For the first time since arriving on Earth, Boros was able to observe the daily lives of ordinary people.
He saw shops, apartments, office buildings, markets, and so much more.
It was his first time truly experiencing human culture, and it was a lot to take in.
Though Genos had educated him on the theoretical side of human society, seeing and interacting with it firsthand was a completely different experience.
At first, Boros felt a bit awkward, but he soon adapted to society and played the role of a hero well.
However, not everything was peaceful.
Garou was still on the loose, hunting heroes and steadily growing stronger.
Facing mere B and A-Class heroes wasn't enough anymore.
After fully recovering from his brutal fight with Watchdog Man, Garou began searching for his next S-Class target.
It wasn't long before he found one, Puri-Puri Prisoner, and defeated him with ease.
Little did Garou know, his actions had caught the attention of a certain bird monster who began observing him from afar.
After an uneventful week of dealing mostly with Disaster Level: Tiger and Demon monsters, Boros finally heard something interesting.
An announcement echoed throughout the city:
A monster has appeared nearby. Estimated threat level: Demon.
Boros grinned, finally feeling excited again.
"Alright," he said, "finally something a bit more interesting."
Without wasting time, he ran toward the monster's location.
When he arrived, Boros spotted a young woman standing before the beast.
She had a curvy figure, dark green hair, and wore a green dress with a white fur coat.
"Must be a hero," Boros thought, but his attention quickly shifted to the monster she was facing.
It was a giant hound with six eyes.
Boros recognized it immediately.
"Hey, this thing was with the Monster Association."
"I remember it survived a few of my attacks… this is going to be the perfect test for my new armor."
The alien grinned, feeling excitement build up.
Meanwhile, the woman, Fubuki, stood before Overgrown Rover, her body trembling.
"What the heck is this thing?" she thought, terrified.
"Nothing I do even phases it. That damned announcement was wrong, this is clearly a Disaster Level: Dragon."
Before she could react, Rover's mouth began to glow, preparing to fire an energy blast.
Fubuki's eyes widened in panic.
She threw up a psychic shield, hoping it would be enough to protect her.
But deep down, she knew it wouldn't.
Just as the blast shot toward her, Boros swooped in, grabbing the B-Class hero and carrying her out of harm's way.
He landed on a nearby rooftop, gently setting her down before leaping back to the street to face the monster.
All without saying a word.
Fubuki, still catching her breath, watched him in confusion.
"Who is that? A hero?" she wondered.
"I've never seen him before… is he new?"
