Chapter 23
Chapter 23: The Date (3)
—–CROW—–
The Dryad’s Tomb was the first area of the World Tree Labyrinth.
Yet, due to the sheer number of monsters and various debuffs, it remained uncleared for a long time, accumulating notoriety for over a year.
I remember it being cursed relentlessly for being so difficult for a first-level area.
Even the combat-focused users who joined the game early on were so disappointed with the dungeon that they quit.
But I didn’t think it was that bad.
Billion Saga had plenty of content besides dungeons, and thanks to the dungeon’s difficulty, people branched out into various life skills.
After that, alchemy, tailoring, magical engineering, and other life skills reached a certain level of proficiency before the dungeon was finally cleared.
Only then did players begin to praise the dungeon’s balance,
calling it a perfect level design that considered the fusion of life skills and combat.
After the Dryad’s Tomb was conquered, players started investing heavily in life skills whenever they hit a wall in a dungeon, creating strategies to overcome them.
The Ancient Tree Bark Hat and Euclid’s Oracles were relics from that era.
After that, the era of 3000-level dungeons arrived in the blink of an eye.
Well begun is half done.
And it seemed Da-Hye, like us back then, had already crossed the halfway point.
“Sung-Hyeon! Hurry up! The light’s about to change!”
“Wait… office workers don’t run… I’m dying…”
She was practically a max-level warrior, the way she was navigating the park.
The hamburger after clearing the “dungeon” was, as Da-Hye said, freaking delicious, and we sat on the lawn for a while, enjoying the cherry blossoms.
And now we were on our way to another destination.
Park Da-Hye, fully charged with confidence, took the lead.
Excited after her outing and the cherry blossoms, she was practically skipping.
And now she was running back to me.
Where did the girl who was about to faint go?
Good job, Park Da-Hye. Two thumbs-ups.
“Sung-Hyeon, what’s your sister like?”
“What do you mean ‘what’s she like?’ She’s just a person. A long-haired version of me.”
“Heeheehee, that would be hilarious. But why are we meeting your sister now?”
“I asked her to help you with your skincare. I don’t know what you should be using, and she’s an expert.”
“An expert?”
“Yeah. My sister works here.”
[Sung-A Beauty Lab]
This was the final destination of our date.
“A hair salon? Is your sister a hairdresser?”
“Yeah. Let’s go in. My sister doesn’t work much, so we should be able to see her right away.”
As we entered the salon, the staff greeted us with excessive friendliness.
“Welcome. May I help you with your reservation?”
This kind of expensive salon was for rich people; if it weren’t for my sister, I would never have set foot in a place like this.
And even if I had a sister, I probably wouldn’t have come here if it weren’t for Da-Hye.
“I don’t have a reservation, but I have an appointment with the director.”
“Ah, are you Director Kwon’s younger brother?”
“Yes.”
“Oh my, you have the same eyes as the director. I’ll go get her, so please wait here for a moment~.”
I thought an expensive salon would have exceptional service, but
judging by the cursing I’d already heard, it seemed hopeless.
**
As I sat in a chair, flipping through a fashion magazine with Da-Hye, someone smacked me on the back of the head.
*Whack!*
“Ow… shit!”
I turned around to see a fierce-looking woman standing there.
She had her black hair tied up in a bun, and now that I looked closely, she did have the same eyes as me.
Thirty-four years old. Name: Kwon Sung-A. The director of this hair salon, and my older sister.
For the record, she had a foul mouth.
“‘Shit?’ You little punk. ‘Shit?’ Am I your friend? You only call me when you need something, you little…”
“That’s why I only contact you when I need something. It would be unfair to get yelled at for no reason.”
“Oh, I thought you were dead, but you’re doing well, judging by your smart mouth. Take this!”
*Whack!*
My sister glared at me as if she wanted to kill me, but then, seeing Da-Hye, she instantly switched to an angelic smile.
As expected, you needed that level of shamelessness to run a hair salon in Seoul.
I hated people.
“Oh my~~ And who is this lovely young lady? Hello. I’m Sung-Hyeon’s older sister~.”
“Hello. I’m Park Da-Hye.”
“Girlfriend? Or… colleague?”
She never showed any interest before; why was she being so nosy now?
“Neither. A gaming friend.”
“A gaming friend? Really?”
“Yes. So stop asking unnecessary questions and saying weird things. Just help her with skincare and recommend some products. That’s all I asked for.”
*Whack!*
*Sigh*… I got hit every time I opened my mouth.
I thought having a hairdresser in the family would be helpful, but this was too costly.
This was more expensive than buying potions.
Still, I was a bad younger brother who only contacted her once a year, so I’d endure three hits.
“Ugh, what am I going to do with this punk? Would it kill you to speak nicely?”
“Nicely? Are you even aware of how you’re talking right now?”
“Of course I am. It’s called physical communication. Speaking of which…”
*Whoosh!*
No way. I dodged this time.
It was a good thing I’d honed my reflexes through gaming.
I quickly put some distance between us and shouted,
“I’m going to take a call, so take care of her! If you put any weird ideas in her head, you’re dead!”
“Don’t talk nonsense and get lost!”
“Da-Hye, don’t be scared! Call a lawyer if she gives you any trouble!”
“You wanna die!? Get out!”
*Phew.*
She’d become much more violent since the last time I saw her.
This was my sister. As you could see, we weren’t exactly affectionate siblings.
We’d only reconnected five years after I left home, and we barely saw each other once a year.
Both of us hated our home and found our parents burdensome, so we grew up resentful, without any sibling affection.
But I knew that her harsh behavior was her way of showing affection.
She made time for us immediately after I called, even though she was busy.
And her excitement about Da-Hye staying with me was also something only family could express.
It was nice that even after a long time without contact, things weren’t awkward between us, thanks to her rough demeanor.
After a thirty-minute walk, I returned to the salon.
Da-Hye was nowhere to be seen, and my sister frowned when she saw me.
“You’re back, idiot.”
“Idiot reporting for duty. Are you done?”
“Yeah. I bought her the most popular skincare products these days, so let me know if she has any reactions. She said she doesn’t usually style her hair, so I just trimmed it.”
“Oh. You cut her hair, too?”
“Yeah. Don’t go anywhere else; come here whenever you need your hair done. Got it?”
“Then I should buy a helmet.”
“You want a tomato in your stomach? I’ll stab you with scissors.”
“Thanks for the tip. Where’s Da-Hye?”
“She’s behind you.”
I turned around to see Da-Hye standing right behind me.
Did she get threatened or tortured or something?
She was smiling, but her face was frozen.
She had bangs now.
The neatly trimmed bangs, just above her eyebrows, looked cute.
What was it called… choppy bangs?
As expected of a salon director, my sister chose a hairstyle that suited Da-Hye perfectly.
She also had makeup on; her cheeks were tinged with orange.
Was this the trendy makeup style these days?
If I squeezed Da-Hye’s cheeks, orange juice would probably drip out.
I didn’t think makeup would make much difference since she was naturally beautiful and had long eyelashes, but…
She really looked like Rosanne come to life.
This wasn’t a person; it was an illustration. An illustration.
“Wow. You have makeup on?”
“Yeah… your sister taught me how to do it. How is it?”
“It suits you. You’re beautiful.”
*Whack!*
Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my butt.
A low kick. This time, I was hit for absolutely no reason.
That’s it. Sister or not, it was time for payback.
“Ow! Why!?”
But my sister’s face wasn’t filled with anger.
Instead, she put her arm around my shoulder with a sly smile and whispered,
making me feel uncomfortable.
“Just felt like hitting you, why. Are you going home now?”
“We’re going to do some grocery shopping first.”
“You’re living together?”
“Yeah. Did you interrogate her?”
“It’s called small talk, you punk. So, what’s the deal? Girlfriend?”
“No, I told you, she’s a gaming friend.”
“But does it make sense to live together? Did you sleep together?”
“Just mind your own business. It’s not like that.”
“Good thinking. You’re not getting any younger, and she seems like a nice girl. Just seduce her and get married.”
“Can’t you see how young she is? And I told you I’m not getting married.”
“Oh really? Do you think that’s your decision to make? You’ll be warming baby bottles before you know it, you brat.”
“Whatever, that’s not going to happen, so don’t worry about it.”
“You’re hilarious. Do you think that’s how it works? But still… I feel relieved. To think you’d call a girl beautiful…”
“I’m human, too.”
“Yeah. Let’s live like humans. Normally. It was good to see you after so long. Now get lost.”
*Flick!*
I left the salon after getting flicked on the forehead one last time.
How many times did I get hit today?
“Da-Hye, this salon sucks, right? Should we leave a bad review online?”
“No. Your sister was really nice to me. She taught me how to do makeup. And she gave me all these cosmetics.”
Da-Hye opened the shopping bag, revealing a mountain of cosmetics.
Skincare products, and many others I didn’t recognize.
They must be expensive; she bought a lot.
It was nice to have family, though.
I felt relieved, too.
“Should we go home now?”
“Yeah! I’m suddenly feeling really tired. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been out in a while.”
“Let’s go home and rest. And play games.”
“Okay!”
“Then today’s date concludes here. How was it? Please leave a review.”
Da-Hye didn’t say anything and just gave me a thumbs-up.
Good.
This date was quite fruitful.
Da-Hye ate in a crowded park and learned about skincare.
Two thumbs-ups for Park Da-Hye and one for me; this was a three thumbs-up date.
Now…
Let’s go home.
Come to think of it, I was a bit worried. She wasn’t actually planning on wearing *that*, was she?
