After finishing breakfast, full of motivation, we headed for the training grounds. It was already bustling with people doing their morning training. Wow, that person’s so flexible… Whoa! And that person’s swinging around such a huge weapon so effortlessly! Ah, over there, someone’s practicing magic target shooting. A-Amazing! They hit the center every time!
I’d never really observed other people training, so I couldn’t help but look around.
“Meg, over here.”
Gil-san, probably worried about how distracted I was, took my hand and pulled me along.
“? Aren’t we doing it here?”
“It’s crowded. We don’t want too many people watching, not with what we’re about to do.”
They’d had to clear the training grounds when I’d formed the contract with Shou-chan before, because it was during a less crowded time, and because the spirit had chosen that location. Apparently, I’d caused trouble without even realizing it. I-I’m so sorry.
He took me to a small room at the edge of the training grounds. Small, but still probably a little smaller than a classroom back in elementary school.
Apparently, the training grounds were sometimes used as an arena. The Don would occasionally hold events where guild members would compete. It hadn’t happened in decades though, because of the Don’s work. But it sounded fun. I wanted to watch!
Anyway, this room was built as a waiting room for those events, and it was normally used for group discussions about teamwork or for when you needed to concentrate. We’d be using it this time.
“Well then, summon the Voice Spirit.”
“Okay. Shou-chan.”
I called out to Shou-chan, feeling a bit nervous. The bob-haired spirit appeared before me.

“Fufu, yeah. A very important job. Can I ask you to do it?”
『Of course! 』
Shou-chan seemed oblivious to the tension. It was happily flying around, full of energy.
“This time, I want the Voice Spirit to investigate why… why Nemo is targeting Meg. And if it’s even true that they’re targeting her.”
“…Shou-chan, can you ask around about this?”
『Hmm, so I just have to listen to anyone who’s talking about you, Master, right? 』
It seemed like I couldn’t ask Shou-chan to do anything too difficult. But it seemed to understand what it needed to do, and asked this in its own way. I looked at Gil-san for confirmation, and he nodded slightly.
“Yeah, that’s right.”
『Okay! I won’t forgive anyone who tries to hurt Master! 』
“Shou-chan…!”
I hugged Shou-chan tightly. Ahh, so cute!
“But, be careful okay? Some people might be able to see you.”
『We can kinda tell who can see us! So don’t worry!』
Is that so? That was a little reassuring. But, but, I’m still worried about my cute little spirit being put in danger!
“But still! Come back shafely!”

We hugged each other again. I was a little curious about what Gil-san thought of all this, but he just waited patiently. Such a considerate handsome man!

Ah, that’s right! As I smiled, Shou-chan drained me of my magic power.

Shou-chan exclaimed this, flying around the room, then said, “I’m off!” and vanished in an instant. I’m sure it’s flying around outside at the speed of sound right now.

I interrupted him, eager to hear more. Because finally, I had a job! A mission? That was just me giving away magic power…
“I see. Then let’s go hear what it’s about. But don’t push yourself. Tell me immediately if you feel even a little unwell.”

“It’s a simple job, so you could probably start today… But we’ll see how you feel. We can always ask Ludo for a magic recovery potion.”
