Chapter 109 - The Spirit’s Unexpected Nature

The Spirit’s Unexpected Nature

“There’s a young one here who’s good at making stuffed animals. I’ll have her handle it, as part of her training. Ah, of course I’ll check it, so the quality won’t drop.”

She’s so dedicated to training the younger generation. I thought I saw Ran-chan’s eyes and tiger ears twitch suspiciously, but it must have been my imagination. Yeah, it was good that we could help her practice with our request! Even though Kei-san was the one paying! And the handsome Kei-san was even paying for Maryla-san’s! Maryla-san was desperately trying to refuse, but Kei-san insisted that it was a thank you for carrying them during the Juma-kun search. Apparently, he’d discussed it with Nika-san. Maryla-san looked incredibly grateful.

“You’re not fond of expeditions, right? And I made you come to such a dangerous place, so even though it’s part of your job, this is a token of my gratitude. I’d be happy if you’d accept.”

Kei-san’s words were a critical hit. I mean, being told something like that, with that beautiful smile… it’s only natural for Maryla-san to blush! She couldn’t even speak, just nodded repeatedly. It was so cute.

“By the way, Meg-chan, are you sure about that order?”

Ran-chan, catching my eye, asked this. But I had no doubts.

“Yesh! That’s what I want.”

“Really? Well, if Meg-chan’s happy, then I’m happy.”

“What kind of stuffed animal did you order, Meg-chan!?”

Maryla-san asked this excitedly, joining the conversation. It was cute how her face was still a bit red. But!

“It’s a shecwret!”

“Eeeh.”

“Hmhm, then I’ll keep it a secret too. I have to listen to my client! The client-artisan relationship is important.”

As expected of Ran-chan! We exchanged glances and giggled. I couldn’t wait to see the finished product!

It was already getting dark by the time we left the shop. I’m so sorry for making you wait, Gil-san!

“Don’t worry, I got some things done while I was waiting.”

That was an unexpected reply. Eh, but you were with me the whole time, right? When I asked this, he said that he’d used his shadow birds to get some potions and small items from the tool shop in the guild. H-His shadow birds can even run errands!?

“Just from the shops inside the guild, of course. They know about my abilities, and they understand that I can’t leave. I could have them get things from the shops in town, but… they probably wouldn’t like that.”

I see, so it was a trick unique to the guild shops. As expected of Gil-san, always being considerate, even towards the shopkeepers.

And it was great that he’d made good use of the waiting time. I remember… carrying my laptop everywhere, just in case I had to wait at a client’s! And it was always them who made me wait! I remember working on documents for hours, fuming! There were some clients who didn’t allow it, so maybe those who let me work were considerate, but still…

“We just have to pick them up when we get back to the guild. Store them in your bracelet when you get them.”

“Undeshtood!”

I was grateful that he’d prepared everything. Alright, I’ll do my best too! In these last three days, I’d train with Fuu-chan and Homura-kun, practice accurately conveying my images for Spirit Magic. After work, of course.

I was thinking about such things as we returned to the guild.

I spent the next three days as planned. Working as the poster girl, and then, in my free time, I’d work on conveying my images to Fuu-chan and Homura-kun. And it was surprisingly easy, with Shou-chan acting as an intermediary!

『All I have to do is turn the voice of my master’s heart into the voice of the spirit and convey it to them!』

Apparently, spirits have their own language, something only they can understand. This was news to me! And for races like us, who can see spirits, they use their unique magic to allow us to understand.

『And the keyword that activates that language comprehension magic is guessing the spirit’s type!』

Homura-kun was right. Otherwise, we’d be able to understand them the moment we saw them. …It would have been incredibly noisy with spirits everywhere.

By the way, this was also news to Schlie-san. He’d been pondering it, after hearing about it from Shou-chan, and his deduction was amazing!

“So they’re not unintelligent, they just had poor comprehension because they were responding with our language. However, their free-spirited nature won’t change, so even if we communicated properly, whether they can understand our intentions and use magic will depend on the individual…”

How can he deduce so much just from our clumsy explanations…? As expected of Schlie-san!

“The Voice Spirit’s true abilities only manifest when it serves a human. It’s an incredible ability, to be able to understand all languages, but it’s meaningless among spirits. So this spirit must have been feeling inferior.”

I see. From a human perspective, Shou-chan had a cheat ability, but it was meaningless for spirits. I finally understood why Shou-chan had lacked confidence. I was happy to have learned something new about Shou-chan!

And thanks to that cheat ability, it could translate my images into a language spirits could easily understand, what a cheat! So, basically:

“Homura-kun, a fireball!”

『Okay, like this?』

And so, we successfully created a fireball indoors, without burning anything, only transmitting heat! It would, of course, function as actual fire against anyone who meant me harm. And it was eco-friendly, only requiring a small amount of magic power! Amazing!

Though it would be best if I never had to use it. I hoped that wouldn’t be the case, but there’s a big difference between being able to defend yourself and not, even if it’s just a little bit! I’d also spent my days practicing other things, having Fuu-chan move the fireball freely and increase its power.

And so, the day of our departure arrived. I woke up early, ate breakfast, got ready, put on my combat attire, and stood in the guild hall, with the core members.

“Take care, everyone. Don’t worry about the guild. Hmhm, we’re good at defending!”

Saura-san chuckled confidently. It was true, with it being a home invasion, they could set up as many traps as they wanted. How reliable, and how terrifying… And I didn’t miss Dr. Ludo’s mischievous grin!

“I’m not worried. I believe in you, since you’re the ones who decided to do this.”

Dad smiled and said this. He seemed used to handling his subordinates. As expected of the Don!

“Ash, take care of ours.”

“Leave it to me. I promise to achieve our objective and bring everyone back safely.”

Dad and the Demon King exchanged a powerful gaze. They then turned towards their respective destinations, as if words were no longer needed.

“Uu, Meg-chan, take care!”

“…Come back safely.”

I received words of encouragement from Maryla-san and Reki and smiled.

“Okii! I’m off!”

We each took a step forward, receiving warm cheers from the other guild members.
