Chapter 29: Chapter 28: New Skill Acquired
Typically, a Spider's web shooters hold two cartridges each, with an additional four or five stored on their belt—enough to last quite a while.
However, if the web fluid is compressed to the subatomic level, it not only allows for significantly smaller containers, such as coin-sized capsules, making them more portable, but also increases efficiency, prolongs usage time, and eliminates the need for frequent cartridge replacements.
The advantages are numerous.
Spider-People who mastered this technology include: Peni Parker, the Spider-Mech girl; the late Ultimate Spider-Man, blond Peter Parker; and the Holland-Spidey Peter had seen in the movies. After gaining support from Iron Man, Holland-Spidey replaced his liquid web fluid, originally stored in small vials, with coin-sized cartridges—essentially subatomic-level web fluid containers.
Despite their small size, these capsules were equivalent to four or five standard liquid cartridges.
Peter's suit was created at Ultimate Spider-Man's secret base, using his equipment and with Peni's help.
Naturally, Peter's web shooters and web fluid were also high-tech versions.
Webbing formed at the subatomic level is theoretically safer, non-toxic, and sterile compared to the atom-level webs Garfield-Spidey used.
Using it to temporarily seal a wound was a perfect solution!
Peter sprayed a few bursts of webbing over Spider-Gwen's injury, and the effect was immediate. The wound was sealed, and the bleeding stopped.
However, Peter knew this was only a temporary fix.
The wound hadn't been disinfected, and all he had done was stop the bleeding for now.
With that in mind, Peter gently picked up Spider-Gwen, leaping to the ceiling. He quickly wove a large web between the ceiling and a support pillar, creating a makeshift platform to place her on.
A quick estimate told Peter there had been over thirty thugs in total.
Between him and Gwen, they had taken down fifteen so far.
That left about half still standing.
Spider-Gwen's injury ignited a simmering anger in Peter, and his punches began landing with more force.
Previously, he had held back, merely incapacitating the thugs temporarily while leaving them with mild to moderate injuries—just enough to teach them a lesson.
But now, each strike sent teeth flying or broke ribs.
Most of these thugs would likely be spending months recovering in the hospital.
Considering these were gang members attempting to harm innocent civilians, Peter felt little guilt about hitting harder.
It was clear that Shadow-Spider's influence was rubbing off on him during training.
Shadow-Spider's nickname, "The Punisher among Spider-People," wasn't for nothing—it reflected his ruthless approach to dealing with criminals.
Fortunately, Peter hadn't reached Shadow-Spider's level of severity.
After all, Peter hadn't experienced Shadow-Spider's harsh upbringing or developed his unwavering convictions.
At nearly full force, Peter made quick work of the remaining thugs, taking them down in just a few minutes.
He webbed them all together in a bundle and left them on the ground.
By now, news of "Spider-Man's Subway Showdown with a Gang" had probably spread throughout New York. It wouldn't be long before the police arrived to take over.
Although the thugs hadn't used firearms, their armed assault and intent to harm civilians would surely land them in jail.
Satisfied, Peter turned his attention back to the web he had created.
Climbing up, he was immediately met with a pair of bright, beautiful eyes staring at him.
"Gwen, how are you feeling?" Peter asked with concern.
Spider-Gwen blinked a few times and replied, "Completely fine now. I have to say, you've got some serious skills when it comes to first aid! And your combat abilities have improved dramatically too."
Speaking of which, Gwen playfully swung her arm as if showing off.
Peter leaned closer to examine the wound on Spider-Gwen's arm. Sure enough, it wasn't bleeding anymore.
He frowned slightly, unsure whether this was good news or bad.
With the regenerative abilities granted by spider genetics, quick healing for shallow wounds was expected.
But this cut was inflicted by a knife, and it hadn't been disinfected.
Leaving it untreated might lead to something serious—like tetanus.
"Gwen, stay here for a bit. I'll grab some alcohol to disinfect it."
"Wait!" Spider-Gwen wanted to stop him, but before she could, Peter had already leapt down from the web and disappeared.
Watching Peter's figure vanish down the escalator, Spider-Gwen felt her heart wrapped in a warm, comforting glow.
Her lips curled into a sweet smile.
Being cared for like this—it felt wonderful.
Peter wasn't gone long before he returned, carrying an emergency medical kit.
He had gotten it from the subway station's service staff.
Initially, he had only asked for disinfectants like iodine or alcohol and some bandages, but as soon as the staff saw Spider-Man asking for supplies, they realized he must be helping someone. Without hesitation, they handed him the entire kit.
They even offered to assist, mentioning they were trained in basic first aid.
Peter thought about it but politely declined.
He wasn't sure if Gwen would be comfortable with someone else treating her.
While accepting help and feeling the goodwill of others might benefit Gwen emotionally, Peter knew some things couldn't be rushed.
For now, it was better to let Gwen gradually step out of her self-imposed isolation at her own pace.
Besides, when Peter had checked the wound earlier, it wasn't as deep as he initially feared.
The main concern was preventing infection or tetanus, so disinfecting it should be enough.
And if further help was needed, they could always head to the service area in the subway station.
Peter returned to the webbed corner where Gwen was resting, their eyes meeting again.
It felt like the air was tinged with a subtle, pinkish hue.
The source? Likely the faint blush spreading across Spider-Gwen's delicate face.
If one looked closely, they would notice her aqua-blue eyes reflecting Peter's image entirely.
Peter, however, didn't seem to notice.
He gently instructed Gwen to raise her injured arm, carefully working on the webbing stuck to it.
For an ordinary person, handling such webbing would be nearly impossible.
But Spider-People could manipulate it using their bioelectric charge, which provided far more strength than the adhesive force of the web.
Peter worried the process might hurt Gwen, so he used just one finger to lift the webbing little by little, peeling it away with care.
"Gwen, does it hurt?" Peter suddenly asked, looking up.
Gwen's gaze instinctively darted away like a startled deer.
But she quickly regained her composure, replying, "No, it's fine. Go ahead and—ouch!"
