Chapter 16: Perspective
Arcturus watched as Theseus left in a flash of light. Alphard and Cygnus ran to a window and peered outside. He followed shortly and looked out to the courtyard where Theseus stood before more than a dozen cloaked figures. His breath caught when the first killing curse struck Theseus. The reveal of 'Lord Gaunt's' heritage wasn't all too shocking. He groaned as another killing curse hit Theseus.
Alphard nudged Cygnus, "Is that proof enough of what he is?"
"It's still a bit difficult to wrap my head around that we're related to him. Much less that he's actually a god."
Arcturus grinned at their exchange. Being related to such a man was what they needed to revive their fallen family. Arcturus continued to watch the events outside unfold. Theseus stood straight and said something unintelligible before raising his sword. What followed could only be described as a bloodbath.
Theseus moved much faster than any normal human being ever could. Though he could tell that the god in the guise of a young man was holding back considerably. Cloaked figures started to fall like flies. Spells crashed around Theseus as he weaved around the Death Eaters. Limbs were severed and heads separated from necks. The self proclaimed lord had apparated away like a coward as soon as Theseus had started butchering his followers. Theseus occasionally deflected curses with his sword sending them splashing harmlessly against the wards.
"This is going to be difficult to explain to the Aurors."
Cygnus nodded at Alphard's comment. "Cleaning the blood from the ground is going to take the elves weeks with how it's soaking into the stone."
Arcturus continued to watch in morbid fascination as Theseus dispatched the last cloaked figure with slash that bisected the man from head to groin. Theseus finally stopped moving and looked at his handiwork before dispelling his sword in a flash of light.
Moments later he flashed back into the room and grinned at the three older men. Arcturus noticed that there wasn't a spot of blood on Theseus.
"Enjoyed the show then?"
"You've made a mess…."
"Would you like for me to clean up?"
"No, leave that for the aurors and our house elves. You should make yourself scarce unless you want to answer questions from the ministry. I'll deal with them on your behalf."
Theseus nodded at him appreciatively, "My thanks to you then. Just remember, I'm a prayer away should you need me."
Arcturus shielded his eyes as Theseus flashed away leaving him and his sons to prepare for the imminent arrival of the Aurors.
Alastor Moody felt the rare sensation of nausea building up in his gut. He had seen all manner of horrid things, yet this, this topped all of them. Around the Black estate were bodies mangled beyond recognition. Some were cut cleanly with a blade, others seemed to have burned from the inside out. Blood and viscera squished underneath his one good foot while his wooden stump no doubt soaked in the gore.
He had a feeling that he knew exactly who had done this. He had seen the lad cut down the Malfoy Lord earlier that day after all. The precision that the dark bastard had been dealt with lined up with how brutal the lad had been.
"Captain Moody, Minister Bagnold has called for an emergency meeting. You're to report back with your team as soon as you're finished here."
Moody grumbled before looking around for his underlings. At the corner of his eye he spotted gray cloaked figures examining some of the bodies and frowned. Unspeakables we're too underhanded for his liking.
"Croaker… funny meeting you here."
"Alastor, don't mind us. We're just checking the magical residue left on these charred bodies."
"Samples for you sick little experiments then?"
"No. We're merely interested in the boy known as Theseus Dimiourgos. He has apparently appeared out of thin air, wields great power, and has eluded all forms of tracking."
"You damn spooks sticking your noses where they don't belong. I saw the lad fight, you do not want to cross paths with him."
"We've done extensive research into the boy. He poses no threat to us."
"That's where you're wrong, whatever he is. He is beyond you and your band of sick individuals. Doesn't matter what spells you know. Lord Black has informed us that the lad took two killing curses without flinching. Even gave us a memory of the whole thing."
"We'll need those memories Auror Moody."
"You can stuff it up your cunt spook. I don't answer to you."
Moody could have sword the Unspeakable before him sneered underneath the shadows of his gray hood. Croaker shook his head before taking a step back.
"Well get those memories Alastor. Even if we have to take them by force."
The gray cloaked man twisted and disappeared on the spot. Moody cursed under his breath. He knew trouble when he saw it. Calling the rest of his squad they portleyed back to the ministry. He left his squad to debrief and followed Bagnold secretary to her office.
Tom Riddle Junior was beyond upset. In one fell swoop an unknown had slaughtered his followers like sheep. What more, the boy had survived two killing curses. He didn't know the method used to do so but he knew it all had to be a trick. No one could block the curse much less survive it. Yes! That was it. This was all a trick. An illusion.
Dumbledore must have set it all up to fool him. Still, his followers were dead. Nearly three fourths of his inner circle slain. He sat in his throne and waited. Walburga had been tasked with another mission. One that would spell the success of his revenge against the Blacks. It was a simple mission, there was no reason for her to fail.
"My Lord."
He turned to face the new arrival. Walburga and Orion were kneeling behind him. He could feel the tension between them.
"Have you succeeded?"
"Yes my Lord, the Lestrange heirs will play their part."
"Was there any complications?"
"No my Lord, the Potter brat will not be a problem. Neither will Pettigrew or the werewolf."
It still shocked him to learn that Dumbledore had allowed a werewolf into Hogwarts. He had heard from Greyback that the Lupin boy was accepted into the school years ago. He knew however that Dumbledore didn't do this out of the kindness in his heart. No, he did this to have a way into the werewolf packs in the future.
Decades may have passed since he talked to his old headmaster but he know how the meddling old man thought. He even suspected that the old man was meddling with the Potter heir and the Evans girl. There was no way a pureblood heir would suddenly be infatuated with a muggleborn who all but scorned him according to the Malfoy heir.
"Good, send word that the plan has been moved forward. Theseus has proven to be a dangerous foe. We need him dealt with as soon as possible."
"It shall be done my lord."
He walked out of the room with a flutter of his robes. He needed to look into more rituals to enhance his strength. The unknown that was Theseus had embarrassed him earlier that day. The display of power the boy threw around was an enigma in of its own.
'Maybe I should pay the ministry a visit. They're bound to have information on this Theseus."
The Marauders sat around the Gryffindor common room in silence. Vela had just returned from her family home and informed them that Voldemort had attacked her family. According to her uncle Theseus had wiped the floor with the Dark Lord's followers.
"Well we already knew he was powerful, is this really a surprise?"
James looked at Remus, "Hardly. Though I am curious. Why was he in your home, Lord Black doesn't usually invite the common masses to his home."
Vela looked like she had been caught in the middle of setting up a prank.
"It's hard to explain."
"Harder to explain that Theseus supposedly being a god?"
"I don't know the whole story, I got there right as Grandfather finished speaking with him. From what I've heard Theseus may very well be the father to the founder of House Black."
"What!?"
"He's our age, that's not possible."
"Moony you're forgetting the part where he's a god."
"That hasn't been proven."
"Was everything he's done so far not proof enough?"
"Well…."
"How could that be? Didn't he just arrive to this world according to his own claims?"
"Apparently he's not the only one with world jumping abilities."
"This is giving me a headache." Peter stood up and walked by the entrance to the dormitory. "I'm going to the kitchens. You guys want anything?"
"Pumpkin Juice," Remus turned to the rest. They shook their heads. "I guess just that then Wormy."
The rat animagus nodded before exiting into the hall. The painting shut behind him and the remaining Marauders returned to their conversation.
"Well, what now?"
"What do you mean?"
"What happens now, Theseus more than likely killed a bunch of pureblood lords. The ministry isn't going to like that."
"What can we do Padfoot, we're just students."
"We go about business as usual then?"
"At least until something affects us directly."
"Agreed."
Albus Dumbledore slumped into his desk with a defeated sigh. He had returned from an emergency meeting with the Wizengamot. The meeting had been rather quick, just discussing the recent events. Though the lords had demanded that Theseus be brought before them for judgment.
He still remembered Alastor's warning about involving the wizarding government with Theseus. He shuddered at the thought of the boy and how he would react should things not go his way.
He still could not learn anything about Theseus. Not even after hours of reviewing his memories of the duel. He had even managed to pull a few favors and get copies of Arcturus Black's memories of an attack on his home.
Theseus had been ruthless and efficient in handling Tom's followers.
Though the man had escaped Albus felt hope swell in his chest. Despite not agreeing with his methods, Theseus was clearly much more powerful than Tom and had the potential to stop the oncoming war from even happening.
He fell every bit his age as he looked out of his window. Fawkes was flying in lazy circles outside his tower. The phoenix's song reached his office and calmed his worrying mind.
'Maybe I could push him towards the right path like the Potter heir.'
