Chapter 6: Chapter 6: The Blue-Eyes Xyz: Galaxy-Eyes! The Old-Guard's Defenses are Broken Again!
The duelists across the six worlds would never have imagined in their wildest dreams that just from the appearance of these two cards, their brilliant minds could already piece together the combo. And as expected, the video blogger "My Bride is Mine" immediately began his detailed explanation.
My Bride is Mine: "Running these two Synchros is pretty much enough. You go for Spirit Dragon on your first turn, and if you're in trouble, you just bail out into Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon."
My Bride is Mine: "Combining Azure-Eyes with Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon is also a good choice since it can banish a card."
My Bride is Mine: "Of course, for Synchro-based control, just relying on Spirit Dragon's one Graveyard negate is definitely not enough. So let's take a look at the Xyz cards we can run."
My Bride is Mine: "The Galaxy-Eyes Xyz package, for some Rank 8 stacking plays. No problem with that, right?"
Silence.
After the person in the short video finished speaking, the duelists across the six worlds fell into a deep silence.
What is the "Galaxy-Eyes package"?
What is "Rank 8 stacking"?
And what are these "Xyz" monsters?
All these questions left them speechless, not knowing what to say.
And the video continued to play. The information on the so-called Xyz Monsters had already appeared!
[Card Name: Galaxy-Eyes Full Armor Photon Dragon (Rank 8)]
[Attribute: LIGHT]
[Type: Dragon]
[ATK/DEF: 4000/3500]
The first to be shown, naturally, was the powerful Full Armor Photon Dragon, which could detach materials to destroy cards!
DM World
Seto Kaiba nearly coughed up another mouthful of blood. It was bad enough that a white-bordered Blue-Eyes monster appeared, but now there was an unfamiliar black-bordered card!
The key point was that this card was clearly not related to Blue-Eyes White Dragon! It was most likely from another archetype entirely! This left Kaiba even more clueless. The ace monster from another archetype... was being used in a Blue-Eyes deck?
"So, what... what is this?"
"Who am I, where am I?"
"What is this?"
Joey felt like his brain couldn't process any more. What is an "Xyz Material"? And looking at the summoning condition, it seems to require three Level 8 monsters? What is any of this?!
...
GX World
Chancellor Sheppard, Professor Crowler, and the others had already moved their students to the library. Not for any other reason than to desperately search for any information related to this "Synchro" mechanic.
Unfortunately, before they could find any knowledge about Synchro Summoning, Xyz-related cards and a whole new set of knowledge appeared.
"Mamma Mia!" Crowler collapsed onto the floor. "Here we go again! What is all this?! What is this card now?" He felt as though his entire life's worth of teaching knowledge had just become worthless.
"This card's effect is pretty good!" Jesse Anderson, standing next to Jaden, quickly understood something from the card's two effects. "Effect 1 lets it turn two Equip Cards into materials! And combined with Effect 2, you can activate its ability multiple times! After all, Effect 2 requires detaching one material to destroy a card!"
After thinking for a moment, Jesse continued. "The summoning condition is three Level 8 monsters! But the card says it can also be Xyz Summoned by using a 'Galaxy-Eyes' Xyz Monster you control as material, other than 'Galaxy-Eyes Full Armor Photon Dragon'. That means this is probably the more common way to summon it!"
Jesse quickly grasped the correct summoning method. His words sent Jaden, Zane, Alexis, and the others into deep thought. Perhaps... Xyz was easier to understand than Synchro?
...
Before the duelists in the many worlds could think too much, the video quickly revealed the second Xyz Monster that would be included in the deck!
[Card Name: Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon (Rank 8)]
[Attribute: LIGHT]
[Type: Dragon]
[ATK/DEF: 3000/2500]
My Bride is Mine: "This one only needs two Level 8 monsters to stack, so it fits perfectly with Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"
My Bride is Mine: "Its effect lets you detach one material to steal an opponent's monster! The only downside is that afterward, none of your other monsters can attack."
My Bride is Mine: "It's a solid way to clear the board, and at the same time, you can continue your stacking plays!"
My Bride is Mine: "Let's take a look at the next one!"
[Card Name: Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Blade Dragon (Rank 9)]
[Attribute: LIGHT]
[Type: Dragon]
[ATK/DEF: 3200/2800]
There's more?!
And this one... it requires three Level 9 monsters to stack?!
My Bride is Mine: "Seeing this, I think you all understand how it works now."
My Bride is Mine: "First, we summon Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon to steal a monster."
My Bride is Mine: "Then, following the rules of Xyz, we can stack Full Armor Photon Dragon on top of Cipher Dragon to destroy a card."
My Bride is Mine: "After that, we can continue to stack Cipher Blade Dragon on top of Full Armor Photon Dragon, detach a material, and destroy another card."
My Bride is Mine: "The sequence shown on screen, I assume, is basic stuff. Everyone gets it, right?"
As the video blogger's explanation continued, the Rank 8 stacking combo played out on screen. The edited footage showed two Blue-Eyes White Dragons on the field being overlaid to Xyz Summon Cipher Dragon. Then, just as the blogger described, Full Armor was stacked on top to perform its destruction effect! Finally, Cipher Blade Dragon was stacked on top of Full Armor to destroy another card!
After watching the entire Xyz sequence, the duelists from the DM, GX, and 5DS worlds were completely baffled!
They had originally thought that Xyz would be a profoundly difficult and advanced concept from another world. But after watching this one sequence, they all understood it perfectly!
Whether it was Kaiba, Yugi, Joey, or Mai, or Jaden, Zane, Alexis, or Yubel, the duelists from the first two eras, after being exposed to the Galaxy-Eyes package, now completely understood what Xyz Summoning was!
So that's it! As long as you have monsters of the same level, you can stack them to summon a black-bordered card! And you can continue to stack even stronger black-bordered cards on top of them if the conditions are met!
So that's what Xyz is!
