wasted potential

Chapter 1: chapter 1: silence so loud

Out in a grassy field under a moon lid sky a pale young man with stark black hair stared at an incredibly vast and star filled universe. With many thoughts running through his head he finally came to a question that got him out of his daze. "Has there ever been someone on the moon".

The thin man that looked like someone who would be carried away with the wind if he didn't have a set of cheap leather armour on him thought about loads of things while he was alone, not that these thoughts were very deep, profound nor helpfull to his daily life. His thoughts were simply there to keep him company.

"Redrick drager, shouldn't you take your guarding job more seriously. You don't want me to cut your salary again because of your laziness right?". Redrick stood up as fast as he can and took a respecting pose while bowing. "Sorry good sir Martel, it won't happen again" redrick said with an tremble In his voice "please don't cut my salary".

Mister Martel looked at the malnourished guard he paid a minimum wage for a little bit while sighing " I would appreciate you doing your job well, as long as you do that you will earn your deserved money. My visit to Cellin went well and I havent been in danger jet so far so dont ruin it for me and yourself while we are almost home".

Redrick felt the angry look of the old merchant that went back to sit on the tree stump he was sitting on before. Scared to anger his temporary boss even more he jolted " yes sir".

Back to his job of sitting on the stone that had a great view over the valley they were in.

This was the best place to see what was lurking around their little tent camp. The only thing he could see tho was fields of grass with mountains that closed in on a glittering lake in the middle. The moonlight reflected beatifully on the almost flat surface, the wind was low and the only noice came from the campfire they had build.

As a kid Redrick heard stories of a Knight being given a sword with magical power by fair maidens that lived in lakes. Well he wasn't completely sure if it was a lake like that but his thoughts still remained. "Would this lake suffice as a home for a fair maiden, or an maiden in general? How did the maiden get such a good sword and why would she give it away to a man she just met? Is it because he Is a Knight, because he looks strong or is it because she is afraid of him. Or is the sword nothing to her and should the Knight actually be scared of the woman"

Redricks thoughts kept on going while Mister Martel went into his tent to sleep. The agreement that the two had made two weeks ago was quite simple, Redrick keeps the night watch and protect Martel for any danger that would come while Martel would pay, feed and let his guard sleep in the carriage during the day. Martel would wake his young companion if danger would show during travelling. "The guy might be an useless airhead so far but it was the only one I could pay." Martel thought before slowely falling asleep.

The night was as long and silent as every other night. It would have been quite boring for every guard in town, Redrick was an exception in that regard. While being so emerged in thought he failed to notice that it was already the next day and the sun was shining in his face.

"Maybe I could be a Knight that gets a sword from a maiden in a lake".
