Chapter 166: The Seed of the Tree of Might!
The shape was the first thing he noticed.
It was different. Saibaman seeds were round and green, but this one resembled a melon seed and possessed a dark, crimson hue. It was clearly not the same species.
After a moment of thought, Axis instructed the Solus Prime to prepare a vacant subterranean chamber.
He had them transport a large quantity of fertile soil into the space, followed by an abundant supply of nutrient solution.
Why overthink it? The best way to know was to try. If it was not a Saibaman seed, it simply would not grow.
Following the command from Axis, the Solus Prime made the preparations swiftly.
Within a few dozen minutes, a specialized basement chamber had been fully equipped with everything he had requested.
Axis gave a nod of approval and headed for the underground laboratory. At his command, a certain Necron Chronomancer was left behind in the experimental bay to continue research on the phase-teleportation device he had mentioned.
Axis had not relaxed his surveillance of the Necron.
Although their souls were already bound, there was no telling what mischief the mechanical skeleton might get into.
The security level remained high, with the Solus Prime maintaining round-the-clock monitoring. Axis even considered planting two special Saibamen to serve as permanent guards aboard the ship.
While the Solus Prime could operate autonomously, it would still benefit from additional defense forces.
Arriving in the subterranean chamber, Axis used a wooden stick to dig a small hole about a meter deep.
He placed the peculiar red seed inside, covered it with soil, and poured the nutrient solution over it.
Next, Axis extended his hand toward the ground and began to channel his Ki into the special seed.
Since it originated from the Dragon Ball universe, he reasoned that it would require his Ki for activation.
The moment his Ki flowed into the seed, Axis felt his energy being drained as if by a bursting dam.
The seed devoured his Ki at a rate that was even more terrifying than the Emperor's!
A violent reaction erupted from the soil.
In just a few seconds, the entire basement's worth of fertile earth was desiccated, all of its life instantly absorbed.
It turned to petrified, rock-like sand. The speed of the process startled even Axis.
The seed had absorbed his Ki at a rate several times greater than the Emperor, and it had drained the life force of all the soil in the entire chamber.
Yet, even after consuming so much energy, the seed remained only partially activated. It had swelled slightly, but showed no signs of sprouting.
Axis, somewhat astonished, dug the seed out. It was obvious that ordinary soil was insufficient for its cultivation.
The nutrient supply could not keep up, as an entire chamber of fertile earth, spanning over a hundred square meters, had been depleted in an instant. To plant this seed, he would likely need a planet with an extremely potent life force.
A planet, It needed to be planted on a planet.
Something instantly clicked in his mind.
He carefully observed the unremarkable seed in his hand.
Could this be the legendary Tree of Might? And its fruit, the special fruit that only gods could consume?
He recalled the fruit from a movie in the Dragon Ball universe.
The Saiyan, Turles, had eaten such a fruit and experienced a massive power increase, enough to overwhelm Goku's Ten-times Kaio-ken. Even in his base form, Turles possessed a power level of thirty thousand, more than enough to destroy a planet.
Thinking back to the spacecraft he had just retrieved, could it have been the very same vessel used by Turles and his crew?
If so, had King Vegeta's case been destined for Turles's hands, had he not taken it himself?
Axis thought back carefully.
When he went to steal King Vegeta's equipment, he seemed to recall encountering a crab-haired man with darker skin who bore a slight resemblance to Goku.
However, that appearance was not uncommon among lower-class Saiyan warriors, so Axis had paid him no mind at the time, felling him with a single blow.
Now that he considered it, he realized he had likely stolen something that originally belonged to Turles.
King Vegeta's case was supposed to have fallen into his possession, but now, it was in Axis's hands.
Interesting.
The fruit of the Tree of Might.
He wondered if it would be of any use to him now.
If this had been right after he was first transported to this universe, it would have been incredibly valuable. Planting it and eating the fruit would grant a power level of tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands. But now, Axis knew that a power level of a few million, let alone a few hundred thousand, was utterly insignificant before him.
Still, it was a treasure from the Dragon Ball universe, and Axis was eager to plant it and see what it could do.
The world of Dragon Ball drew heavy inspiration from the classic tale, Journey to the West, which featured many such spiritual fruits, like the Peaches of Immortality or the Ginseng Fruit.
The Fruit of the Tree of Might was clearly a reference to them, just with a different form.
He wondered if, aside from increasing one's power level, the fruit could also enhance life force.
It was said to be a fruit for gods, and "gods" in this context probably meant something beyond a simple King Kai. It more likely referred to beings like the Gods of Destruction or the Supreme Kais.
To plant the Tree of Might, he needed a planet brimming with life.
"Solus Prime, during the years you wandered through space without me, did you ever encounter any planets with particularly vigorous life forces?" Axis asked.
"I did encounter many planets and recorded their coordinates. Could you specify your criteria?" the Solus Prime replied.
"First, it must not be inhabited by humans. Preferably, it would be a world inhabited by a Xenos species or non-sapient life, and it must be undiscovered by the Imperium of Man. Most importantly, it must have life, with an abundance of flora and fauna," Axis specified.
"Understood, Father. Cross-referencing the database now. In my travels, I encountered over a hundred habitable planets. Three of them meet your requirements. They are located at distances of 172, 3456, and 5660 light-years from our current position."
"Tell me about the closest one," Axis said.
The other two were thousands of light-years away.
Traveling through the Warp would take months, perhaps even half a year, and Axis did not wish to be away from his own world for that long.
"Father, the nearest planet is 172 light-years away. If we depart now, we can arrive in approximately seven to eight days. It is not inhabited by any sapient life. It is roughly the size of Mars and is the moon of a gas supergiant," the Solus Prime reported, displaying all the relevant data on the target world.
Its star was a red dwarf, emitting only a faint light, and the surrounding planets were all dead worlds. This moon of the gas giant had remained undiscovered by mankind.
"That's the one. Depart immediately, full speed," Axis ordered.
"Understood, Father. Engaging Warp drive now. Estimated time to arrival is 175 hours," the Solus Prime confirmed.
Axis nodded.
An absence of a couple of weeks should not be a problem. Besides, if any issues arose, Kasha could contact him through the Warp.
Nevertheless, as a precaution, Axis initiated a psychic conversation with Kasha.
He informed her that an urgent matter had come up and he would need to be away for fifteen to twenty days.
"That is the situation, Kasha. I need to leave for twenty days," Axis explained.
"Alright. I will hold the fort here while you are gone. Be safe," Kasha replied with a nod.
"If all goes according to plan," he added, "I will return with something very valuable."
"Just come back safe."
After they bid farewell, the Solus Prime's Warp drives roared to life. The colossal ship slipped into the empyrean, accelerating towards its destination with maximum thrust.
The Solus Prime boasted security measures that surpassed even those of most Imperial vessels.
In addition to its Geller Field, the ship was equipped with a Blackstone matrix, which offered perfect insulation from the prying eyes of the Warp.
Furthermore, Axis's own psychic presence could be used to navigate by locking onto the Astronomican of Holy Terra.
After twenty-eight hours of travel, the Solus Prime exited the Warp and arrived in a completely unfamiliar star system.
It was a unique red dwarf system; seventy percent of the stars in the Milky Way were red dwarfs, leaving countless empty worlds yet to be discovered by humanity.
"This is it, Father. I discovered this place by chance during a Warp jump. This planet could be terraformed into an Agri-World, though its output would be limited by its size," the Solus Prime said.
"No," Axis stated, holding up the seed, "This planet will not serve the Imperium. Soon, it will become a Dead World."
He boarded a small transport craft, descended through the planet's atmosphere, and landed on its surface.
It was a verdant world, vibrant with life. Towering trees reached for the sky, and all manner of strange animals and plants thrived. This unique planet reminded Axis of Pandora from the movie, Avatar.
Flying to the planet's central continent, Axis selected a suitable spot and landed. He took out the seed of the Tree of Might, tossed it onto the soil, and infused it with his Ki to activate it.
Upon contact with his ki, the seed began to grow at an astonishing rate. Its root system instantly pierced the surrounding land, expanding visibly before his eyes. The tendrils burrowed deep into the earth, their relentless advance pushing even toward the planet's core.
The life energy of the entire world was being drained away.
Animals across the planet were ensnared by the wildly growing roots, their life forces completely siphoned off.
Axis hovered silently in the sky, like a spectator to this world-ending cataclysm.
The planet had met its doom.
