Chapter 39: Warhammer: Lord of the Endless Monster Horde [39]
"Do you think I can see the Astronomican?" Rhodes asked in confusion.
"Yes! Lord Rhodes, ordinary psykers cannot see the Great Astronomican, but you certainly can, because you are the Emperor's chosen one.
The light in your eyes is the Emperor's light. If ordinary Astropaths see this light, their eyes will be burned blind.
But you will not. Astropaths are excellent psykers who, after being bathed in the Emperor's light, can communicate under His protection.
Without Astropaths, we would be unable to contact each other across the vast universe," Elena explained to Rhodes, telling him about the Astropaths and the Astronomican.
Astropaths are among the most crucial individuals in the Imperium. They can see the light of the Astronomican and are responsible for communication between Holy Terra and other planets.
Throughout the Imperium, on naval vessels, Rogue Trader fleets, and planetary worlds, there are countless Astropaths.
"I see what you mean. In other words, I have awakened psychic abilities and become a psyker, right?" Rhodes nodded and asked.
Being a psyker in the Imperium is extremely dangerous. If one is not strong enough, their mind is too weak, they are simply burned as fuel. The Emperor's Golden Throne requires the sacrifice of 1,000 psykers every day, and the number is only increasing.
However, psykers are also highly valuable and sought after in the Imperium. Various organizations—Adeptus Astartes, the Inquisition, planetary governors, and Rogue Trader fleets—all require psykers for assistance.
Now, it was clear that Rhodes had suddenly awakened his psychic powers, and the fact that he could conjure golden lightning was no coincidence.
Especially this golden lightning, along with the golden glow in his eyes—it must have something to do with the one sitting on the Golden Throne!
"Lord Rhodes, please wait here for a moment. I will fetch the Captain and the Canoness.
They have seen real Astropaths and know how to guide you, whereas I have only read some related books." Elena finished speaking and ran off.
Rhodes did not stop her. Awakening psychic powers was not necessarily a bad thing—it at least granted him an additional attack method.
And with the Canoness and the Space Marine Captain present, they could better help him control his psychic power.
His psychic power was likely connected to the Emperor himself. It seemed that he had truly become the Emperor's chosen one!
Soon, Canoness Anna and Space Marine Captain Dres received Elena's report and hurried over.
After meeting Rhodes, they asked him to demonstrate the Emperor's golden light and the golden lightning he could summon.
"This is indeed psychic power! And it is different from that of ordinary psykers," Captain Dres nodded and said.
Ordinary psykers manifest lightning that is pale blue and extremely unstable. There had never been a case of golden lightning before.
Only the Emperor himself had golden lightning. Now, he was beginning to believe that Rhodes might truly be the Emperor's chosen one, as the Battle Sisters had claimed.
"Lord Rhodes, how did you awaken this power? Can you control it?" Canoness Anna asked.
"I just slept and suddenly awakened it. I can control it."
Rhodes' palm crackled with golden lightning as he swung it toward the distance.
The golden lightning erupted with a power stronger than even a boltgun or a plasma weapon, instantly shattering a massive boulder into pieces.
This golden lightning and the psychic power inside him—Rhodes could command them effortlessly, without any risk of losing control.
Whenever he used psychic lightning, his eyes would also glow with a dazzling golden light.
Just like yesterday, the Battle Sisters had witnessed the same phenomenon. Canoness Anna immediately noticed Rhodes' condition.
"By the Emperor! Lord Rhodes, you are indeed the Emperor's chosen one.
Your existence must be connected to the Emperor. I am certain that the golden light in your eyes is the Emperor's radiance!" The Canoness said excitedly.
"Just now, Elena told me that I might be able to see the Astronomican and send psychic messages to other psykers nearby."
"Yes! Lord Rhodes, you can try focusing your mind on the Warp and observe the light of the Astronomican.
The Astronomican's light shines across a radius of 70,000 light-years in the galaxy.
As long as you are within the galaxy, you can perceive the Emperor's glorious light," Canoness Anna explained.
"Lord Rhodes, your psychic power is incredibly strong. You should be able to withstand the Emperor's light without issue.
Try it! If you can truly connect to the Astronomican, we can send out a distress signal." Captain Dres added.
If Lord Rhodes could indeed see the Astronomican's light, he could establish contact with the Astropaths and report the situation on this planet to the Imperial authorities, calling for reinforcements instead of passively waiting for rescue.
After all, cases where an Imperial world lost contact with Holy Terra for hundreds or even thousands of years due to the death of its Astropaths were all too common.
"Alright! I'll give it a try. Sister Anna, please tell me what to do." Rhodes nodded.
"Lord Rhodes, relax your mind completely, then enter the psychic realm of the Warp and begin to perceive the golden Emperor's light.
Try reaching out to a nearby Astropath, sending them a message, or reading their information.
Because of the Emperor's blessing, you are now connected to the Astropathic Choir and the Astronomican.
You are under the Emperor's protection, preventing Warp demons or other Xenos forces from detecting you.
Under the Emperor's light, you are safe," the Canoness guided Rhodes.
Following her instructions, Rhodes sat cross-legged on the ground, emptied his mind, and extended his consciousness outward.
His awareness expanded across a vast starfield, revealing a wondrous sight.
Far away, across countless light-years, he saw a golden beacon radiating an intense glow.
Under its illumination, countless blue lights flickered. However, unlike these small blue lights, Rhodes' glow was golden—and much larger.
At that moment, some of the blue lights also noticed Rhodes' massive golden presence.
Instantly, they reacted as if they had found a savior.
Suddenly, countless psychic messages flooded into Rhodes' mind:
["Help! The world of Karaz is under attack by xenos!"]
["Help! The planet XXX is being invaded by Orks! We need Imperial reinforcements!"]
["Help! Chaos forces have appeared on Drakaasi! Requesting intervention from the Inquisition!"]
["This is the Deathwatch. We are fighting Xenos on XXX! Requesting reinforcements!"]
["This is [XXX], requesting—"]
["Help! The planet Mordian is suffering from a Chaos cultist uprising!"]
["Help!"]
