Chapter 37: Warhammer: Lord of the Endless Monster Horde [37]
Rhodes controlled the King Joe as it descended to the ground, then announced to everyone that the Hive Fleet had been destroyed and that the defensive battle had ended in a perfect victory.
The surviving humans cheered in excitement—this time, they had truly defeated the Hive Fleet.
Now, all they had to do was wait for reinforcements to arrive and then work together to clear out the remaining swarm forces on the planet.
Not long after Bemstar began its actions, some Astra Militarum observers on the ground detected an unusual radar anomaly.
Through the virtual screen on the radar, they saw an unimaginably terrifying cosmic monster.
Bemstar's flight speed in the atmosphere reached Mach 5, and when flying at an altitude of just a hundred meters, it even generated sonic boom shockwaves, making the scene look like a natural disaster!
Wherever it passed, devastation followed. The ground and valleys appeared as if they had been sliced by a blade, and countless Tyranid creatures were swept up by Bemstar and sucked into its stomach through an absorption organ.
"By the Emperor! This is bad! Commissar, we... we've detected another giant Titan-class creature!"
"Its shape... its shape is somewhat like a giant bird, but... just come and see for yourself! I can't explain it."
The Astra Militarum soldier in front of the instrument wiped the sweat from his forehead and spoke with despair.
On the virtual display screen, Bemstar's abdomen was generating an extremely terrifying suction force. The Tyranids on the ground, and even most of the trees, rocks, and soil, were being absorbed.
Compared to Red King, who used its claws, tail, and massive body to kill the Tyranids, Bemstar's method of slaughter was far more efficient—and far more horrifying.
Countless Tyranids were being sucked into Bemstar's body, and this giant bird-like Titan creature seemed like a bottomless pit, devouring everything in its path.
If the previous battle between Red King and the Tyranid swarm could still be considered normal, then the battle between Bemstar and the Tyranids was anything but—it was a one-sided massacre.
"Go inform the Canoness, the Captain, and Lord Rhodes to come here."
The Imperial Commissar's face was extremely grim as he stared at the screen.
"How can such a terrifying creature exist? Could there be such life forms in the universe?"
This massive entity had arrived from outer space!
It was preying on Tyranids—was this thing a lone entity, or did it have an entire species behind it?
And how was it related to the other giant creature, the one that couldn't fly and could only move on the ground?
...
Rhodes, along with Canoness Anna and Polar Warrior Captain Dres, immediately put down what they were doing and followed the Astra Militarum soldiers to the Imperial Commissar's location upon receiving the news.
"Commissar, what's happened?" Canoness Anna asked as she arrived. She had just been praying to the Emperor with her fellow Battle Sisters.
"See for yourselves." The Imperial Commissar gestured toward the screen. "A terrifying Titan-class creature has appeared, and it's attacking the Tyranids... but the method it's using is utterly horrifying! This monstrous devouring ability—it's even more like a monster than the Tyranids themselves."
Bemstar's display of power filled the Astra Militarum Commissar with fear.
The three of them nodded and stepped forward to watch Bemstar's battle footage on the screen.
In just a few hours, most of the Tyranid swarm had already been devoured by Bemstar.
The destructive power of this giant bird-like Titan creature was beyond anything they could have imagined!
"Lord Rhodes! Can you and the Emperor's divine machine destroy this thing?" Canoness Anna turned to Rhodes and asked.
If this horrifying entity decided to attack them, the only one present capable of opposing it would be Lord Rhodes.
"If necessary, I will personally deal with it." Rhodes nodded.
"I believe in you, and I believe in the Emperor's divine machines. They can defeat any enemy of the Imperium." Canoness Anna said, looking at Rhodes with confidence.
She had complete faith in Rhodes—or rather, in the Emperor's divine machines that he controlled.
"For now, it's best if we don't provoke it."
"It's helping us solve a problem. If we had to clear out these Tyranids ourselves, it would take months—maybe even years."
"At this rate, with this big creature's efficiency, the Tyranids could be wiped out within a day or two." Captain Dres remarked.
At least for now, this terrifying lifeform had shown no interest in humans.
And it was actively helping them eliminate a major threat. The Tyranid swarm numbered in the hundreds of thousands, and without Rhodes' divine machines, it would have been nearly impossible for them to clear out the infestation on their own.
"For now, we should stay hidden and let this Titan creature fight the Tyranid swarm."
"If it finishes off the Tyranids and still lingers on this planet, I will pilot the divine machine to deal with it."
"If it leaves on its own, that will prove that its primary food source is the Tyranids, and we can at least breathe a temporary sigh of relief."
Rhodes explained.
"These two colossal beasts must be dealt with eventually." The Imperial Commissar added.
"As long as they remain on this planet, humanity won't be able to colonize it."
If necessary, they would have to wait for the Imperial Navy to arrive and use orbital bombardments to eliminate both creatures.
"Perhaps we can use a different approach—what if we make these two monsters fight each other? What do you think?" Rhodes suggested.
It was time to deal with the problem of Bemstar and Red King.
Rhodes could directly absorb them into his system's space, but that would be too unnatural. A giant beast appearing out of nowhere, defeating the Tyranids, and then suddenly vanishing would be far too suspicious.
So he planned to give the two monsters a more natural exit.
Red King would pretend to lose, getting absorbed into Bemstar's suction organ. In reality, Rhodes would secretly send it back into his system's space. Meanwhile, Bemstar would fly off into space and disappear from human sight.
Let it just be a cosmic monster—no need for it to be linked to him.
Hearing this, the others' eyes lit up.
"That's a great idea!"
"Good plan. Let the two giants fight to the death—whoever wins, we'll just take out the survivor."
"Have the soldiers hide in the caves. Avoid being seen by that giant bird for now. Let it finish clearing out the Tyranids first." Rhodes instructed.
The group finalized their strategy: they would stay hidden while Bemstar wiped out the swarm. Then, they would find a way to make the two giant beasts fight each other.
