Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Butterfly Hunt in Gotham

Although Bruce loved his dagger gift, he knew what it meant—Marcus was leaving.

"Teacher, are you leaving now?"

"Yeah, almost. I'll be going soon," Marcus nodded, looking at both of them. "Even though I'm leaving, you must not stop your training. Don't forget that I'll be checking on your progress when I return."

He had stayed long enough. Originally, he'd planned to find the Dionysus factor in Gotham to extract the Aya Stars, but had failed. If he hadn't managed to extract Aya's Stars from Diana and the flaming sword at the museum, his time would have been completely wasted.

Swish~

Suddenly, a silver light shot from Marcus's hand and struck the flower bed in the courtyard.

With cries of pain, several masked killers appeared around them. Each assassin had a blood-drop emblem on their forehead.

"You two hide first. I'll handle this—consider it your final lesson before I leave."

As soon as he finished speaking, several more kunai shot from his hands, and two Rex pistols appeared in his grip, firing at the killers.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Gunfire echoed throughout Wayne Manor. The Rex dual pistols, which had been enhanced with the "Wasp Sting" amplitude crystal, possessed lethal power rivaling anti-material weapons.

Though these killers were fully armed, their protective gear might as well have been paper against the Rex pistols. Their armor offered no defense against the specialized bullets.

After witnessing what happened to the first few attackers, the remaining killers quickly took cover. They all understood just how destructive these ordinary-looking pistols were.

Seeing the killers in hiding, Marcus advanced toward them, intent on eliminating them completely.

Tap, tap, tap

As his footsteps drew closer, one of the killers extended his gun barrel and fired wildly in Marcus's direction.

The result was disappointing for the assassin. Not a single shot hit Marcus—instead, it only helped him pinpoint their position.

With a light step, Marcus flashed to the nearest killer. A gunshot rang out, and the killer's head exploded like a watermelon hitting concrete.

"One..." Marcus muttered softly as he moved on to the next target.

Before the second killer could react, another shot rang out, and another assassin fell.

"Two..."

His counting, like the Grim Reaper tallying souls, unnerved the remaining killers. They all leaned out from cover and opened fire on Marcus in desperation.

But their fate was sealed. The moment they exposed themselves, Marcus's Rex pistols found their marks.

Da-da-da...

Bang! Bang! Bang!

With each shot, another killer fell with a bloody hole somewhere on their body. Some had their heads blown apart, others had fist-sized holes through their hearts.

Bang!

With the final shot, the last killer collapsed.

This one, however, only had a leg shattered. Marcus still needed to extract something from his memory.

Bruce and Selina, hiding nearby, couldn't help but shrink back after witnessing the carnage. Their teacher was always particularly ruthless when dealing with enemies.

"Go find Alfred. I'm heading out for a bit."

With that, Marcus carried the wounded killer out of the manor.

As soon as he left Wayne Manor, Marcus transformed into energy and vanished. The killer slumped against the wall like a puppet with cut strings, unmoving.

Shortly after, the killer's chest suddenly tore open, and a swarm of razor butterflies erupted from within.

"Eliminate all those bearing the blood drop emblem!"

As the command echoed, the killer's body instantly turned to ash, and more razor butterflies emerged from the remains.

The butterflies dispersed into the air and flew toward different parts of Gotham.

People throughout the city witnessed the strange spectacle. A swarm of beautiful butterflies darted through Gotham's streets, occasionally flying past certain individuals.

Soon, alarm bells rang throughout Gotham. Though the city's police force wasn't particularly effective, they still had to maintain some semblance of order.

They received reports that a group of butterflies had flown past certain people, who then collapsed with wounds covering their bodies.

Detective Gordon and his partner Harvey responded to the call. When they arrived, the victims were already dead, lying in pools of their own blood.

"What the hell is going on?"

Harvey had a headache. Recently, Gotham's cases had become increasingly bizarre. In the past, they mostly dealt with simple robberies and shootings.

But now? People were being killed in prison, others had organs harvested, and unidentified skeletons kept turning up.

The current case was more troublesome than anything he'd experienced in the past decade. They couldn't even find a suitable scapegoat to quickly close the case.

Gordon crouched down to examine the victim's injuries. The neck was barely attached, held together only by bone—the rest had been torn apart by something razor sharp.

"These injuries couldn't be caused by butterflies. This looks like the work of a powerful weapon."

Gordon concluded his initial assessment and called Harvey to transport the body back to the station for a more thorough examination.

When they returned to the police station, they discovered the morgue was already filled with bodies.

"What's red and vital to people?"

A thin young man appeared beside them, pen in hand, posing the riddle.

"Uh... Edward, we don't have time for riddles right now," Gordon glanced at him with an exasperated expression.

"Fine!" Edward shrugged and handed over a document. "The answer is blood. They all have this blood drop emblem on their bodies. It must be a new organization of killers."

Gordon's eyes lit up, and he grabbed Edward's shoulder.

"You mean they were all killed by this blood drop organization?"

"No, actually it's the opposite of what you're thinking. They are the victim!"

This was the conclusion Edward had reached after investigating the identities of these people and the items found on them.

The butterflies from the rumors were hunting down assassins operating in Gotham.

...

After the last killer bearing the blood drop emblem was eliminated, Marcus returned to Wayne Manor.

However, he didn't go to see Bruce and the others. Instead, he sent a razor butterfly.

"You stay here and protect them."

This razor butterfly had been born from the ashes of the killers—not one of Titania's original razor butterflies. Marcus intended for it to help Bruce defend against potential attacks in the future.

After watching the butterfly trace a blue light through the air as it flew into Wayne Manor, Marcus's energy flashed, and Limbo [Rift Prison] activated.

A crack opened in the air behind him, leading to the void. He stepped forward and vanished completely from this world.

Bruce and Selina spotted the razor butterfly and rushed outside, but there was no sign of Marcus.

"The teacher is gone..."
