Warframe Voidwalker : Multiverse Journey

Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Finding Your Path

Marcus couldn't always be there for Bruce. After all, he needed to find various energy-containing items, which meant Bruce would eventually have to rely on his own strength.

"I understand," Bruce nodded. He got what Marcus meant. In the future, he might face all kinds of problems, and Marcus wouldn't always be around to solve them.

Just like the recent assassin attack – if Marcus hadn't shown up, he and Selina would have been killed by those hitmen.

So Bruce took Marcus's advice to heart. He would make plans to handle various problems and keep potential situations under his control as much as possible.

Seeing that Bruce followed his advice, Marcus smiled. He recognized some of Thomas's suggestions to Bruce from Thomas's letter.

The former head of the Wayne family had hoped Bruce could grow up safely and find his own mission and goals.

This reminded Marcus that he shouldn't waste any more time here. He needed to continue on his own journey.

"I was planning to stay in Gotham longer, but your father's letter reminded me that I need to keep traveling to find what I'm looking for!"

Bruce and Alfred looked confused. What did he mean by this? He had just returned, and now he was leaving again?

Seeing their puzzled expressions, Marcus chuckled.

"Don't worry too much. I'll stay for a while, but Bruce won't be going to school during this time. He has a lot to learn."

Marcus planned to teach Bruce more fighting skills so he could skillfully use various weapons in combat.

Although Bruce was reluctant to see his mentor leave, he could tell that Marcus wouldn't stay just because he begged him to. He had no choice but to accept it.

The three walked out of the cave. Marcus noticed Bruce's low mood, chuckled, and patted his shoulder.

"You're almost thirteen. Being mopey won't attract girls. Besides, I'll come back to see you when I have time."

Limbo had recorded the coordinates of this world. Marcus could return here anytime to visit the people he cared about. After all, he hadn't forgotten his promise to teach Clark fighting skills too.

Plus, there were still many things he needed from this world that hadn't appeared yet. He would have to return to extract those items containing powerful energy.

"Don't worry, I'll be back to check on you in a year or two at most. If your combat skills don't meet my standards by then, there will be consequences!"

Bruce laughed. He wouldn't slack off, especially after the chase with the assassins. He understood better now how important combat skills were.

"By the way, teacher, you said my father's letter reminded you of something. What exactly did it remind you of?"

Bruce was curious. Marcus was already so powerful—what could he possibly still need?

"Did you notice the part about goals and mission in the letter? While I don't have any important mission per se, I do have a goal I need to work toward."

On one hand, Marcus wanted to return to the mutant world to reunite with his former companions. On the other, he needed to find more items containing powerful energy to extract the Aya Stars.

When Marcus mentioned having a goal, Bruce fell silent, wondering what his own goal and mission might be.

"Are you guys meditating?"

Selina's voice suddenly broke the silence. She had been wandering around the manor and returned to the study.

Everyone had gone quiet, which made her think they were meditating.

"Of course not." Marcus looked at Selina. This little thief was quick-witted and skilled. Most importantly, Bruce seemed to like her a lot. "I'll teach you some self-defense skills. Want to learn?"

"Yes!" Selina agreed without hesitation.

She had seen how powerful Marcus was and knew exactly what Bruce had been like originally.

In just a few months, Bruce had transformed and become much stronger. How could she pass up this opportunity?

As a homeless teenager in Gotham, fighting was inevitable. If she could learn some combat skills from Marcus, surviving in Gotham would become much easier.

"Well... should I regret offering?" Marcus pondered.

The little thief had answered so eagerly that he wondered if he'd said something he shouldn't have.

"I know!" Bruce interrupted, looking at Marcus with excitement. "Teacher, I know my mission and goal now."

"Dad wanted to reform Wayne Enterprises, and Mom wanted to rebuild Arkham. I'll help accomplish both. I want to change Gotham and make it what Mom and Dad wanted it to be."

This was Bruce's goal and the mission he'd been searching for. He wanted to transform Gotham from a crime capital into a civilized city.

"That's not a goal or mission. You're daydreaming," Selina rolled her eyes, clearly annoyed. She knew Gotham better than Bruce did. She understood what this city was really like.

This was Gotham, a city of sin. The gangs were so powerful they could influence the government. The police who were supposed to maintain order were corrupt officers collecting protection money everywhere.

The only one you could rely on here was yourself. If Bruce wanted to change all this, he'd need to completely rebuild Gotham from scratch, which was simply impossible. He'd be making enemies of the entire city.

"I will do it," Bruce said firmly. He was determined to make all of Gotham's sins disappear.

"Just find your goal and mission," Marcus nodded. Like Selina, he didn't think Bruce could change Gotham.

After all, there would be many exceptional "talents" graduating from Arkham in the future, and those outstanding Arkham graduates would all be put there by Bruce himself.

"Alright, you two should go rest now. Starting tomorrow, I'll teach you both a variety of fighting skills. How much you learn depends entirely on you."

...

Deep in a park

"All the assassins we sent have disappeared. Your intelligence didn't mention this would happen in Gotham."

The speaker was a middle-aged man talking to someone on the other end of the phone.

"That has nothing to do with me. I've already paid. Your job is to kill the Wayne heir as soon as possible."

A distorted voice came through the phone, making it impossible to tell whether the speaker was male or female. Their calls were specially encrypted to protect their identities.

"Heh, the low-level assassins have been wiped out. If you want to continue the assassination, you'll have to pay more..."

The middle-aged man sneered. They would never return the money. If the other party didn't pay more, they'd keep the bounty for themselves.

As for those missing assassins, it would be nice if they returned, but it didn't really matter if they didn't.

After hanging up, the man took a deep breath, composed his expression, and walked out of the park.
