Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Death Butterfly

"Bruce, what did you do?"

Hearing the approaching footsteps, Marcus looked at Bruce with mild exasperation. It wasn't normal for so many assassins to pursue a single kid so relentlessly.

"I don't know. They just broke into the manor and have been hunting me ever since."

Bruce felt somewhat aggrieved. He genuinely didn't understand why these killers targeted him—he hadn't done anything to warrant such attention.

Selina, standing nearby, secretly smiled behind her hand. She could tell that Marcus wasn't concerned about the assassins surrounding them. These killers clearly posed no significant threat to him.

Soon, the assassins converged in the alley, their weapons trained on the trio.

"Heh, let me show you something interesting."

Marcus snapped his fingers, and the surrounding blue energy butterflies streaked toward the killers at remarkable speed, following his silent command. The razor butterflies concealed within this luminous swarm rushed into the group of assassins, their sharp-edged wings slicing effortlessly through flesh.

Some killers, startled by the sudden attack, fought back instinctively. Within moments, the assassins opened fire, gunshots echoing throughout the narrow alley.

Marcus grabbed Bruce and Selina, one in each hand, and leapt onto the rooftop above.

"What kind of butterflies are those?"

Bruce voiced the question on both their minds. They had witnessed Marcus snap his fingers before those beautiful butterflies flew into the killers, inflicting devastating damage.

"They're called razor butterflies, specifically designed for lethal purposes."

A blue energy butterfly landed on Marcus's fingertip as he smiled at his young companions.

Both were mesmerized by the energy butterfly. The blue luminescence made it appear like a glowing sapphire come to life.

While they admired this delicate creation, the gunfire from the alley gradually diminished. The assassins were being systematically torn apart by the razor butterflies, their blood darkening the pavement below to a deep crimson.

With the final gunshot, the butterflies emerged from the alley. As the razor butterflies returned to Marcus, the energy butterflies transformed back into pure energy, flowing into their metallic counterparts.

Observing the razor butterflies—now resembling intricate metal sculptures—Bruce and Selina instinctively recoiled.

They could clearly see that these metallic butterflies had wings composed of actual blades. Though aesthetically beautiful, they were undeniably lethal instruments.

"That seems to have resolved our immediate problem. Now, let's get you to safety." Marcus then turned to Selina. "Little thief, would you prefer to hide at Wayne Manor or return to your own territory?"

Though they'd eliminated the assassins in this alley, Marcus knew others still hunted them throughout Gotham. Selina had clearly become a target by association. If she were spotted again, he might not arrive in time to save her.

"I'm going to Wayne Manor!"

Though Wayne Manor had recently been attacked, with Marcus's return, it would become the safest place in Gotham.

"Smart as always."

Marcus regarded Selina with appreciation. Though young, she possessed remarkable situational awareness and consistently made pragmatic decisions.

Glancing at the fallen assassins in the alley, Marcus led the two toward the street.

"Alfred should arrive soon. You'll return with him. I need to investigate further around Gotham."

When he first arrived at the alley, Marcus had dispatched an energy butterfly to Wayne Manor to alert Alfred, who should be reaching them momentarily.

Shortly after emerging from the alley, they spotted a car parked discreetly along the roadside.

Bruce recognized the vehicle immediately—his family's car, the one Alfred always drove him to school in.

Upon seeing them, Alfred exited the vehicle with visible relief.

"Master Bruce!" After carefully examining Bruce for injuries and finding none, Alfred relaxed slightly. "If anything had happened to you, how could I ever face your parents' memory?"

"I'm fine, Alfred. I've managed to stay hidden thanks to Cat's help, and now my teacher has returned!"

Bruce smiled brightly, embracing Alfred with both arms.

"Take them back to the manor," Marcus instructed. "I'll track down these assassins' headquarters."

With that, he turned and reentered the alley. Some of the killers still clung to life—he needed to examine their memories to determine who had dispatched them after Bruce.

After watching Marcus depart, Bruce and Selina entered the car, returning to Wayne Manor with Alfred.

During the journey, they couldn't resist sharing their recent experiences with the butler.

"You should have seen it, Alfred! We were completely surrounded by assassins with no escape route. Then the teacher saved us. He controlled these razor butterflies—metal creatures with blade-covered bodies—that flew among the assassins. They were all sliced apart by the butterflies' sharp wings!"

Despite his growing maturity, Bruce remained a child at heart, eagerly recounting the extraordinary events to those he trusted.

The razor butterfly swarm had indeed been a shocking sight. Alfred, who had glimpsed the energy butterfly himself, listened with increasing astonishment.

"Mr. Marcus clearly possesses abilities beyond our understanding, but we needn't pry. He'll share what he wishes when the time is right."

He then caught Selina's gaze in the rearview mirror and smiled warmly. "Miss Kitty, is it? Thank you for helping the young master."

"It was nothing. I've met Bruce before, and I know his teacher, so helping seemed natural. Oh, and Kitty is what my friends call me. My name is Selina."

Selina returned a slight smile. Alfred had made a positive impression on her.

Meanwhile, Marcus placed his hand on the head of a barely-breathing assassin. The razor butterflies that had accompanied him vanished.

"Let's see why you're hunting Bruce."

As he spoke, he initiated a soul transfer, his entire being transforming into energy that merged with the killer's consciousness.

The assassin's memories proved disappointingly sparse. These were merely low-level operatives who had received orders to eliminate the Wayne heir. They possessed no additional information.

They lacked even a central gathering place, communicating exclusively through specially encrypted channels.

Most knew nothing about their fellow killers. They identified allies solely through matching insignias on their bodies.

Marcus clearly observed in the man's memory that although their individual logos varied, each invariably incorporated a blood drop mark.

"Blood drop mark? What killer organization is this?"

Marcus couldn't recall any assassination group with this emblem. It appeared to be a relatively obscure organization.

"I'll need to research this further, though it's unlikely to be a renowned group. These operatives are far too inexperienced."
