Chapter 118: Chapter 118: The Desperate Barbarian

Loki reached out and grasped the handle of the hammer, attempting to lift Mjolnir.

But just as before, the hammer remained immovable in his grip, which left him somewhat disappointed.

Even with Thor stripped of his divine power, Loki still couldn't gain Mjolnir's approval.

However, he wasn't too upset. Now that Thor had lost his godhood and was no longer qualified to inherit Asgard's throne, the hammer could stay with his brother here on Earth.

Releasing the hammer's handle, Loki turned around and noticed Marcus leaning against the wall, looking directly at him. But Loki didn't believe Marcus could actually see him—he remained confident in his spells. After all, he wasn't called the greatest sorcerer of the Nine Realms for nothing.

With a calm expression, he walked past Marcus and headed toward the room where Thor was being held.

After he left, Marcus smiled and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. He knew exactly what Loki planned to do, and he only hoped Thor wouldn't be too devastated by his brother's news.

Glancing at Mjolnir standing motionless, Marcus smiled and turned to leave.

He intended to extract the Aya Stars from Thor's hammer eventually, but not yet. If he remembered correctly, Loki's arrival meant the king of Asgard was about to enter the Odinsleep.

God knows what that old man might sense during his sleep. If Marcus extracted it now, it would likely alert Odin.

"Loki's here too. Looks like it won't be long before the original Avengers assemble," Marcus thought to himself as he walked outside.

As soon as he exited the temporary research facility, he spotted two anxious people rushing toward the entrance.

"I need to speak with your commander!"

The leader, Dr. Selvig, told the guards at the entrance that Jane had informed him about Thor breaking into the S.H.I.E.L.D. laboratory.

Although Selvig considered Thor a reckless and hot-headed guy, Jane had obviously developed feelings for him. Besides, they needed help carrying their research equipment, so he was here to bail Thor out of S.H.I.E.L.D. custody.

"Are you here to rescue that Viking?"

Marcus approached them, having a good idea who these people were.

One was Thor's future Earth girlfriend Jane, and the older academic was Dr. Selvig—the man who would eventually help Loki open a portal.

"Uh... yes," Selvig hesitated momentarily, then nodded. "I have a student who's been in a bad mood lately. He made a bet with someone at a bar, claiming he could retrieve the hammer satellite. The drinks made him a bit unruly."

"Ha~ He doesn't look like he had too much to drink!" Marcus laughed.

Soon, alerted by the guards, Coulson walked out of the temporary facility. When he saw Dr. Selvig and Jane, he seemed somewhat surprised.

He already had information on these two. When he first arrived in New Mexico, he'd learned about the astrophysicist Dr. Selvig and his student Jane, who were conducting research in the area.

Initially, he had considered confiscating their instruments, equipment, and research materials.

But after Tony decided to join the investigation, those materials became unnecessary, so he hadn't gone through with that plan.

Surprisingly, instead of him seeking them out, they had come to his doorstep of their own accord.

"Dr. Selvig, what can I do for you?"

Seeing that Coulson recognized him, Selvig grew more confident. He had some previous contact with S.H.I.E.L.D. in the past.

"I'm here to bail someone out. He had a bit too much to drink and wandered over here. I believe you're holding him now."

"Oh, you mean that big guy? He's quite strong," Coulson nodded with a smile. "Wait here—he'll be out shortly."

With that, Coulson turned and walked back into the facility. They'd already investigated Thor's background.

The man claimed to be a scientist, but the assessment at the bottom of his file indicated his identity was clearly fabricated.

Obviously, this identity was fake, but that didn't prevent Selvig from bailing Thor out.

They had already taken samples from Thor, and Tony had finished his frustrating conversation with him. Releasing Thor now wouldn't affect their work.

"Release the big guy!"

At Coulson's order, all the restraints on Thor were removed. But Thor, despite regaining his freedom, looked utterly devastated.

He had met his younger brother Loki and received news of his father's death. According to Loki, Thor had been exiled forever.

Now he understood this was his father's punishment—his recklessness had caused his father's death, and he no longer deserved to return to Asgard.

As Thor was escorted out, Tony also emerged. The situation had returned to normal, and he needed to go back to analyze the data and process what he'd learned from Thor.

"Stark?"

Seeing Tony exit, Selvig and Jane, who were waiting for Thor, exclaimed in surprise.

They hadn't expected Tony Stark—Stark Industries' playboy and the famous Iron Man—to be here.

"Who are you? You seem familiar."

Looking carefully at Dr. Selvig, Tony quickly recognized him.

"Dr. Selvig?"

Though Tony was rather arrogant, he still knew of certain outstanding scientists, including the astrophysicist standing before him.

"Are you here for that guy?"

Thinking of Thor made Tony irritated. He considered the man delusional, spouting nonsense.

All that talk about Asgard, being Thor, and a Rainbow Bridge.

Those were elements from mythology, yet Thor used them to try to fool him. The most ridiculous part was the claim that Loki was Thor's younger brother. Did he think Tony had never read Norse mythology?

Loki was clearly Thor's uncle in the myths—how could he possibly be Thor's younger brother? The man couldn't even get his made-up story straight.

Glancing at Thor being escorted out by the agents, Tony turned and walked toward his car. He felt no need to further engage with someone so mentally disturbed.

...

Later

Some unexpected visitors arrived at Tony's temporary laboratory—Dr. Selvig and his team had come seeking funding.

As astrophysicists, most of their research focused on meteorites and related phenomena, which didn't attract major investment like other scientific fields.

"Mr. Stark, you understand the potential of astronomical research. The future of technological development lies in space exploration, so..."

"So you've come to me for investment?"

Tony flipped through the materials Dr. Selvig had provided. As one of the top scholars in astrophysics, Selvig's research was undeniably impressive.

Within Selvig's documents, Tony spotted some intriguing concepts.

"How do you know the Einstein-Rosen Bridge is real? It's just a theory. Do you have a method to actually realize this concept?"

The Einstein-Rosen Bridge was a hypothesis formulated by Einstein and Nathan Rosen while studying gravitational field equations. They theorized that space travel and even time manipulation could be achieved through certain impulses.
