Ch 8: Mochi Madness
Time passed slowly as Bo floated cautiously around Lucy, watching as she continued working on the massive mound of dough that sat on the counter before her. It had taken her hours and days to get the dough to this stage—kneading it, slamming it with that oversized hammer, stretching it in ways that should be illegal, and sprinkling various powders that gave off colorful, glowing sparks.
She hummed a cheerful tune, her wings fluttering lazily behind her as she worked. Each time she smacked the dough, it let out a strange SQUISH noise that made Bo shudder. It was surreal watching her transform what looked like a doughy mass into… Whatever she had planned.
His curiosity eventually got the better of him, despite her repeatedly ignoring him time and again, he had to try once more. “So… Is this some sort of magical snack?” he asked cautiously, though he already had a sinking feeling in his nonexistent gut.
Lucy didn’t bother looking at him, her attention solely on the dough. “Oh, this? This is going to be your new body, of course.” She said it as though it were the most natural thing in the world.
Bo froze. “My… My what?”
“Your body, obviously,” Lucy said, pausing to wipe her brow with the back of her hand. “I’ve spent days working on it, and the better part of today specially fine-tuning it for you. It’s going to be perfect. You’ll see.” She turned back to her work, humming once again as she kneaded the dough like some mad baker preparing to unleash chaos in the kitchen.
Bo blinked—floated—whatever it was that passed for stunned disbelief in his current form. “Wait, wait, wait. That is supposed to be my new body!?”
Lucy nodded, rolling the dough into what could only be described as a fluffy ball, her eyes gleaming with excitement. “Yes! A perfect blend of magic, mythical ingredients, and my own touch of genius. Isn’t it adorable?”
“Adorable!?” Bo repeated, his voice rising an octave in sheer horror. “It’s a doughball! You’re telling me I’m going to be some sort of… Living mochi?!”
Lucy grinned, holding up the dough proudly. “Not just any mochi! This is the result of ancient techniques, Primordial magic, and a few—let’s say, experimental—methods. You should feel honored. Most people would kill to be as cute and resilient as this!” She slapped the dough again for emphasis, causing it to bounce back up with a comical SQUISH.
Bo recoiled. “Kill? I feel like I’m the one about to die! There’s no way I’m agreeing to this! I’m not going to be some squishy, fluffy snack for monsters out there!”
Lucy rolled her eyes, setting the dough down on the counter with a heavy thud. “Oh, don’t be such a drama queen. It’s not like you have many options. You’re barely hanging on as a soul right now. You need a body.”
“Not that body!” Bo shot back, floating a little farther away from the counter, as though distance would somehow save him from her madness. “I refuse to become some… Some… mochi bun!”
Lucy paused, her head tilting slightly as she eyed him with a thoughtful expression. “Mochi bun? Bunny? Oh, that’s good. That’s really good! I like that!” Her eyes sparkled as if he had just given her the best idea ever. “You’ll be the cutest, squishiest Mochi Bunny in the Shattered Realm.”
Bo spluttered, his form flickering with frustration. “That’s not what I— No! Absolutely not! I refuse to let you turn me into a snack!”
Lucy shrugged, clearly unfazed by his protests. “It’s better than floating around as a weak little soul. Besides, it’s not just about looks, you know. This body has a lot of benefits. You’ll be durable, highly adaptable, and… Well, squishy. Which is a lot better than getting blown away by the first gust of wind that comes your way.”
Bo stared at her in disbelief. “Squishy?! That’s the selling point? I’ll be squishy?”
She smiled sweetly. “And adorable. Don’t forget adorable.”
He was beginning to feel like this conversation was spiraling out of control. “I don’t want to be adorable, Lucy! I want to be… I don’t know… powerful? Like… Like one of those epic heroes with armor and a sword! Not… Not a ball of dessert!”
Lucy leaned in slightly, her grin widening in a way that made Bo’s soul shiver. “Oh, but you will be powerful. You’ll just be the adorable kind of powerful.”
“Adorable and powerful do not mix!”
“They totally do,” she shot back with a knowing smile, her wings fluttering. “Ever heard of a double-edged sword? Well, you’ll be the double-edged dessert.”
Bo let out a frustrated groan. “This isn’t happening… This can’t be happening…”
Lucy giggled, patting the mochi dough affectionately. “You’re being overly dramatic. I promise you’ll love it once you’ve tried it.”
“Tried it? I’m not trying anything!”
Her grin grew even more mischievous as she picked up the dough, molding it into a rounder shape. “Come on, you don’t want to see the world through squishy, fluffy eyes? Think about it. You’ll bounce back from injuries, literally. Plus, you’ll have no bones to break! It’s genius, really.”
Bo’s soul flickered again, torn between horror and the sheer absurdity of the situation. “This is madness…”
Lucy’s expression softened slightly as she cradled the dough. “Listen, Bo, you’re fading. Without a suitable body, you won’t last much longer. I know it’s not ideal, but this is what I’ve created for you. It’s… Special. And you’ll be special too, once you’ve accepted it.”
He floated in silence for a moment, grappling with the reality of his situation. She was right, of course—he couldn’t keep floating around like this forever. But becoming a mochi creature? The very thought was enough to make him want to disappear entirely. And he had even given her the idea to turn it into a bunny form!
Still, he couldn’t deny that she had put effort into it. And… Maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t as bad as it seemed.
“I don’t know…” he muttered reluctantly. “It just feels… Wrong.”
Lucy’s eyes twinkled with amusement. “Wrong? This is your chance to start over, to be something new. You’ll be cute and indestructible.”
“Indestructible?”
“Well, mostly. Just… Don’t let anything swallow you whole.”
Bo groaned. “You’re not selling this.”
She shrugged, plopping the dough back on the counter with a soft splat. “You’ll learn to love it. Or at least tolerate it. Who knows, you might even find yourself bouncing around with joy.”
“That’s what I’m afraid of…” he muttered.
Lucy’s grin returned in full force. “So, what do you say? Ready to embrace your inner mochi?”
Bo stared at the dough, his mind racing. This was insane. Utterly, completely insane. But what choice did he have?
With a defeated sigh, he floated closer, eyeing the dough warily. “Fine. But if I find out this is some kind of trap…”
Lucy giggled, her wings fluttering excitedly. “Oh, it’s no trap. This is your new life, Bo. Welcome to the squishy side.”
Bo floated helplessly as the glowing Mochi dough moved closer, shimmering with magic. He could feel Lucy guiding him, gently urging his soul into the soft, fluffy form that awaited him.
He could only watch as the dough shifted and molded itself, its form rounding out into something undeniably… cute.
Oh no, Bo thought, a sinking feeling in his chest. I’m really going to be a marshmallow bunny, aren’t I?
The dough shimmered again, and in an instant, Bo’s soul merged with it. His essence fused with the mochi dough, and suddenly, he felt… solid. Real. He wiggled a little, testing his new form. His body was soft, fluffy, and—oh no—adorable.
He looked down at himself—or at least, tried to. His new body was round, with tiny, stubby limbs. His ears were long and floppy, and his entire form bounced slightly as he moved. I’m… A bunny… Made out of mochi… He deflated a little, feeling utterly dismayed.
Suddenly, a soft chime echoed in his ears, as Lumi’s voice whispered in his mind, her tone warm and welcoming. “Congratulations Bo. You’ve acquired a physical form and your soul has fully integrated into it without any problem. Would you like to see your status window?”
Before he could fully process the change, Lucy let out a high-pitched squeal of delight. “OH MY! You’re so cute!”
Bo’s little bunny body froze as Lucy’s hands shot out, grabbing him with surprising speed. He was suddenly pressed against her chest, his squishy form mashed against her in a way that made him feel more like a stress ball than a being.
“Look at you!” Lucy giggled, holding him up to examine him. Her eyes sparkled with excitement. “You’re even better than I imagined! So fluffy, so squishy… And so delicious-looking!”
Bo’s nonexistent pulse quickened as Lucy’s eyes gleamed with an almost predatory look. “Wait… What are you—?”
Before he could finish, Lucy’s mouth opened wide, and to his utter horror, she took a bite out of him.
CHOMP!
Bo’s mind went blank with shock as he watched her tear off a chunk of his fluffy body and start chewing.
“OMNOMNOM!” Lucy mumbled through a mouthful of Mochi. Her eyes rolled back in pure bliss as she savored the bite. “Oh my god, you’re delicious~!”
Bo’s health bar, which had appeared at the edge of his vision, plummeted—one-third gone just like that. He stared in disbelief as Lucy continued munching, humming happily to herself.
“Sweet… Fluffy… Chewy… Just perfect!” Lucy exclaimed, her voice muffled by the mouthful of Bo she was still chewing. “I could eat you all day!”
He flailed helplessly in her hands, his stubby limbs waving in panic. “Hey! Stop eating me!”
Lucy giggled, her mouth still full of mochi. “Oh, calm down, you’ll regenerate.”
“That’s not the point!” Bo squeaked, trying to squirm out of her grasp. His little bunny body bounced slightly as he struggled, but Lucy just held him tighter, clearly enjoying his reaction.
After a few more moments of teasing, Lucy finally swallowed the bite she’d taken and set Bo down on the table in front of her. “Alright, alright. I’ll stop teasing you… For now.”
Bo stared up at her, his tiny body trembling with a mix of frustration and disbelief. “You just… Ate me.”
Lucy grinned, licking her lips. “Yeah, and you were delicious.” She leaned down, her face close to his, as if she wanted to take a few more nibbles. “But don’t worry! Watch this.”
With a flourish, Lucy reached into empty space as if it was her pocket and pulled out a small, glowing crystal pebble. She held it up to Bo, her grin widening. “Here, have an Astral Pearl.”
Bo blinked. “A what…?”
Without waiting for a response, Lucy popped the Astral Pearl into his mouth. The moment it touched him, Bo felt a surge of energy rush through his body. His missing chunk began to regenerate, the fluffy mochi reforming as if nothing had happened.
His health bar shot back up, filling completely, and a small icon appeared in the corner of his vision right next to his status bar: Hyper Regenerative Buff Active.
“What… What just happened?” Bo asked, his voice trembling as the last of his body restored itself.
Lucy beamed down at him. “That was an Astral Pearl. It’s filled with a vast amount of energy, so not only did it heal you instantly, but it also gave you a nice little buff!” She wiggled her fingers at him playfully. “Now, if you get hurt again, you’ll regenerate even faster for a while.”
Bo stared at her, still trying to wrap his mind around what had just happened. “So… You fed me a magic pebble?”
Lucy nodded, her grin never fading. “Yep! It’s quite precious, actually, but I have plenty of them. Figured I’d share one with you.” She patted his head gently. “You’re welcome.”
Bo sighed. “Well… Thanks, I guess.”
Lucy chuckled, leaning back as she crossed her arms. “See? I told you, you’ll be fine. Your body regenerates naturally, but the Astral Pearl speeds up the process. Just don’t let yourself get completely eaten, alright? As long as a part of you exists, it can bring you back to full health.”
Bo stared down at his fluffy and tiny limbs. “Right… Good to know.”
He glanced at his health bar again, still in disbelief at how quickly it had recovered. The sensation of being bitten, eaten—and then regenerating—was bizarre, but not entirely unpleasant. It was as if his body was made to handle these kinds of things. And that thought, strange as it was, gave him a small sense of reassurance.
Lucy, watching him closely, tilted her head. “You’re taking this better than I expected.”
Bo sighed, shaking his head. “I mean, it’s weird. Really weird. But… It’s not the worst thing. I could get used to this.”
Lucy’s grin widened. “Welcome to your new life! And don’t worry—if anything happens, I’ll keep you safe. After all, you’re my little Bunbun~ now.”
“It’s Bo!” He corrected under his breath, though he felt that she wasn’t listening.
Lucy licked her lips, almost drooling as she gazed at his fluffy, rotund and delicious form, her hands started moving slowly towards him... “Alright, my eternally regenerating snack…”
“You…Nooooooo!”
OMNOMNOMNOM~
After the rush of transformation faded and Lucy had gone to attend to some other business, Bo decided to check out what his new fluffy form was capable of. He tried to ignore the missing chunk from his bouncy self…
“Status,” he called out, causing a translucent, floating window to pop up before his eyes, filled with detailed information and glowing with a faint, bluish light. It hovered just above his eye level, just like a hologram.
He squinted at the glowing screen, trying to take it all in. The window’s layout was neat, like a well-organized spreadsheet, each section clearly labeled. However, some of these descriptions, ratings, and notes were...
