Wanda Maximoff Multiversal Harem Hunter

Chapter 42: The Rings Of Fate

The heat was merciless, bearing down on Wanda Maximoff and Natasha Romanoff as they trekked through the barren terrain of Afghanistan. The rocky landscape stretched endlessly, with only the occasional sparse shrub to break the monotony. Wanda adjusted her pace, beads of sweat forming on her brow, while Natasha seemed unfazed, her movements deliberate and practiced.

"This is Afghanistan," Natasha said suddenly, her voice calm but confident.

Wanda glanced at her, raising an eyebrow. "You're sure?"

Natasha smirked, her green eyes scanning the horizon. "When you've spent as much time in overly hot shit holes like this as I have, you start recognizing them."

Wanda chuckled softly, though a strange sensation tugged at the edge of her consciousness. She slowed her pace, her crimson eyes drifting over the rocky expanse. It felt… familiar, though she knew she had never set foot here before.

**"You feel it, don't you?"** Fracture's voice slithered into Wanda's mind, soft but insistent.

Wanda frowned slightly. "Feel what?"

**"This place,"** Fracture replied. **"It's tied to your destiny. Someone important will come here—someone who will change history. And you…"** The symbiote paused, her tone growing thoughtful. **"Your path and theirs are intertwined."**

A chill ran down Wanda's spine despite the oppressive heat. "What are you trying to say?"

**"This meeting may happen sooner than you think,"** Fracture said cryptically. **"But for now, focus on the journey ahead."**

Wanda shook her head, trying to push the unsettling thoughts aside. Natasha glanced back, noticing her hesitation.

"Hey," Natasha said, her tone light. "You alright back there? You look like you're having an existential crisis."

Wanda blinked, then smirked faintly. "Just thinking."

"Dangerous habit," Natasha teased, her lips curling into a playful grin. "Careful, or you might overheat that brilliant mind of yours."

Wanda rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a laugh. "I think you've got that covered with all your smugness."

Natasha chuckled, her gaze flicking back to the horizon. "If I'm smug, it's because I'm always right. You'll learn to love it."

The banter flowed easily as they walked, the rhythm of their conversation almost distracting Wanda from the heat. Almost.

"I don't suppose you have a spy trick for keeping cool in places like this?" Wanda asked, wiping sweat from her brow.

Natasha raised an eyebrow, her smirk returning. "Oh, I do. It's called hydration." She tossed Wanda a water bottle from her pack. "You're welcome."

Wanda caught it, shaking her head. "Thanks, Captain Obvious."

"Don't mention it," Natasha replied smoothly. "I like to keep my protégés alive."

"Protégés?" Wanda echoed, raising an eyebrow. "You're getting ahead of yourself."

Natasha shrugged, her grin widening. "Maybe. But if you're going to hang around me, you might as well learn a few things."

Hours passed, the sun dipping lower in the sky and casting long shadows across the rugged terrain. Wanda's unease grew with every step, the strange sense of destiny lingering at the back of her mind. She glanced at Natasha, who was focused as ever, her green eyes scanning for any signs of danger.

"You've been quiet," Natasha remarked, breaking the silence.

Wanda hesitated before replying. "Just… thinking about where we're going. What we're doing."

Natasha slowed her pace, glancing at Wanda. "You're not having second thoughts, are you?"

"No," Wanda said quickly. "It's just… everything feels so uncertain. Like we're heading into something we can't see coming."

Natasha's expression softened, a rare vulnerability flickering in her eyes. "Welcome to my world, Maximoff. But uncertainty doesn't mean failure. It just means we have to be ready for anything."

Wanda smirked faintly. "You always this philosophical?"

"Only when I'm dehydrated," Natasha shot back, her grin returning.

Wanda shook her head, a small laugh escaping her. "You're impossible."

"True," Natasha said, her tone playful. "But you like me anyway."

Wanda didn't respond immediately, her smile lingering as she focused on the path ahead. She hated how right Natasha was about that.

As the sun dipped closer to the horizon, casting the desert in hues of orange and gold, Wanda's attention was drawn to a large rock jutting out of the ground. Its surface was cracked and weathered, but something about it caught her eye. She stopped, her crimson eyes narrowing as she stepped closer.

"Natasha," she called, her tone curious. "Look at this."

Natasha approached, her expression instantly sharpening as her gaze fell on the markings etched into the rock. Ten black rings, all interconnected, formed a precise and deliberate pattern.

Natasha's posture tensed, her green eyes narrowing. "I know that symbol."

"What is it?" Wanda asked, her curiosity tinged with unease.

Natasha's voice was low, almost a whisper. "The Ten Rings. They're an infamous terrorist organization. If we're in their territory…" She trailed off, her gaze scanning the area with heightened vigilance.

Wanda frowned, turning back to the symbol. "They're that dangerous?"

Natasha nodded, her tone grim. "Extremely. They're highly organized, highly secretive, and they don't take kindly to anyone wandering into their territory."

Fracture's voice echoed in Wanda's mind, her tone heavy with caution. **"The Ten Rings are more than a threat, Wanda. Their actions ripple through history. Be wary."**

Wanda inhaled deeply, steadying herself. "Noted."

The two women exchanged a glance, unspoken understanding passing between them. Natasha's expression softened slightly, her voice losing some of its edge. "We'll figure it out. But for now, we keep moving. The less attention we draw, the better."

Wanda smirked faintly, trying to lighten the mood. "And here I thought this was supposed to be a relaxing walk through the desert."

Natasha chuckled, her tension easing just a fraction. "Relaxing? With me? Come on, Maximoff, you know better than that."

"Unfortunately," Wanda replied, rolling her eyes.

As the sun set, painting the sky in fiery reds and purples, Natasha and Wanda continued their journey, the weight of the Ten Rings' presence hanging over them. Despite the unease, their banter persisted, a reminder of their growing bond.

"You're handling this better than most people would," Natasha remarked, her tone light.

"Thanks, I think?" Wanda replied, raising an eyebrow.

"Most people would be whining by now," Natasha said with a grin. "But you're holding up. I'm impressed."

Wanda smirked, her crimson eyes glinting with humor. "Don't let it go to your head, Romanoff."

Natasha's grin widened. "Too late."
