Waiting For Your Reincarnation

Chapter 8

< Kim Yeon-young cannot be reincarnated and joins the special team >

I stared at the banner hanging from the ceiling above the chairman’s office in disbelief.

Unlike me, Ryu Won had a pleasant smile on his face.

He had the satisfied look of a predator who had been dying until they reached the forest and now had a full belly.

Chairman Saeri also had a look of anticipation on her face as she welcomed a new soul into the organization.

“Immortality is nothing to celebrate, is it?” “It’s a good thing, at least for us.”

After being told by the Center’s support team that I couldn’t be reborn, my stress began to boil over.

When a simple test showed that I would be reborn, I realized that I had unknowingly pinned my hopes on reincarnation.

Resigned to the fact that life doesn’t always work out the way I want it to, I am forced to return to the Chairman’s office.

When I return to the Grand Center, the place is in a festive mood.

The pace of the rumor mill is chilling.

“Mr. Ryu Won, I’m sorry, could you please take down the banner?” “Of course.”

Ryu Won blew the banner out of the window with a strong wind and threw it away. Judging by the way it shattered in the air, the banner seemed to be made of earth as well.

Saeri laughed as the banner she had worked so hard to create disappeared without a trace.

“Yeon-young, our youngest. It’s so good to have you back. Let’s start by rewriting your employment contract.”

She led me to a large round table in the center of her office.

Saeri sat at the head table, I sat to her right and Ryu Won sat next to me.

A piece of paper for an employment contract appeared on the table.

“First, I want you to join our special team as the youngest member. You have the ability.” “The youngest on the special team?” “I’ll give you a choice, though.” “A choice?” “Do you want to be a living test subject for the research team and be destroyed, or do you want to be healthy and have another chance at life here and help us do our job as a member of the special team?” “Just out of curiosity, what is life like as a test subject?” “Well… the test subject’s soul is shredded and then transplanted into another soul—” “No.”

I interrupted Saeri’s words and checked the signature line on the work contract.

If I wasn’t enslaved by the work, I would have to give up my body.  Ryu Won and Saeri were no different.

Ryu Won clenched his jaw and looked at me with a lazy expression.

“Ms. Yeon-young, there are still many advantages to being a member of the special team.” “What are they?” “First of all, there are many spirits from the First Branch that you can supervise. You’ll also get a private office, although it will take some time.”

I didn’t care about the number of souls I could control because I didn’t intend to lord it over anyone.

The working environment was nice, but it was the same as having to work there anyway, so I didn’t react as strongly as I had before.

“The salary is also the highest in the center, and as you accumulate more years of service, a piece of land will be put in front of you, so if you earn more money, you can quickly build a house.” “Wait, money and land?”

The moment I heard that, my eyes lit up like a dozen star candies.

Ryu Won took his hand off his chin and watched my reaction. It was the biggest reaction he’d gotten from me since I came.

I felt my heart swell in my chest. Like the feeling of being alive.

I never imagined that I would be able to fulfill my dream of owning a home. If I had known

I would have considered not reincarnating at all.

“I don’t understand the value of money here, how long does it take to buy a house on a monthly salary?”

I asked.

“A decent house won’t take long, six months at the most. Are you interested in a house? I have lots of houses.”

Saeri answered.

“You’d better tell me that up front and write as if I were a new slave. I’ll take the youngest of the special team.”

Ryu Won exclaimed.

Ryu Won’s eyes widened slightly in surprise, and he began to fiddle with the ring on his ring finger, silently counting off a certain number.

I was handed a pen and wrote my name on the signature line.

[Kim Yeon-young]

A red glow appeared on the signature for a moment and then slowly disappeared.

 Poof!

As soon as I finished signing, a loud explosion sounded overhead.

Ryu Won quickly wrapped his hands around my head and bowed his head.

But nothing happened, so he opened his eyes and saw flower-shaped dirt falling around us.

“What do you think? Do you like it? I haven’t made one in a long time.” “What is it?” “Firecrackers for joining the special team. I couldn’t be bothered to go get them, so I made them myself with my own skills. How do you like them?” “I see you’re not like the rest of us, Chairman Saeri.” “Too bad. I told you to call me Sister now that we’re on the same team but thank you for the compliment.”

I looked at the unpredictable character and secretly vowed not to touch the chairman no matter what.

Looking over, Ryu Won also frowned as if he didn’t like what Saeri was doing.

“Yeon-young, I gave you a taste earlier, can’t you be surprised this time? Don’t move.” BANG!

Before the chairwoman could finish her sentence, the ceiling shook as if it was about to collapse. Dirt slowly sprouted from the ceiling in the form of roots and wrapped around my body.

The situation was uncomfortable enough, but hearing Chairman Saeri’s voice didn’t make me want to run.

The roots of the dirt were sticky, just like the plants in the forest. The roots grew, tangled and intertwined, covering my entire body like a coffin.

After a few vibrations accompanied by white light, the earth slowly melted downward and disappeared. As the earth disappeared from view, a tiny, pale pink light floated in the air.

Saeri flicked her hand at my soul fragment floating in the air.

“What is that?” “A piece of your soul that I took from you. Oh, it’s cute. It’s a very pretty light pink color.” “Hey! I thought you said you weren’t going to use me as an experiment.” “It’s not an experiment, it’s necessary for research. This much soul fragment is more like a single blood draw in human terms, and your case is rare enough that we need this much to get an accurate picture.”

The tension in my body eased. Saeri winked and took a small glass vial and placed it into my soul fragment.

I couldn’t take my eyes off the piece of soul that had escaped my body.

The soul fragment that emitted pink light in a clear glass vial the size of her palm was quite beautiful.

“Ryu Won, I have to send this to the research team. Do you know what I mean?” “Jung Jaeho?”

My ears perked up at the familiar name.

Saeri gave a small nod in acknowledgement of Ryu Won’s words. Then she handed me a vial of spirit, as if she was doing me the greatest good.

“First, go to the special research lab and give this to a child named Jung Jaeho. It’s enough to guarantee your well-being for once, so do it well in return.” “What?” “You should never go to the special lab where Jung Jaeho is alone. Make sure you go with Ryu Won. I’ll see you later.”

I thought about Saeri’s message several times.

Jung Jaeho was the one who had created the tentacles I had seen in the forest, and it was easy to see why I shouldn’t go there alone.

Saeri had vanished like a mirage.

“Chairman?” “Don’t worry, she probably just teleported away to do some work, I’m sure she’s fine.” “Ah… teleportation.” “You have a teleportation side effect, and we are in no hurry, so let’s take a walk.”

Ryu Won opened the door and waited for me to go out first.

I bowed my head slightly and left the chairman’s office, but I didn’t feel Ryu Won’s presence following me.

I looked around, but Ryu Won was gone.

I wondered if he had teleported in alone, like Saeri, but it didn’t feel that way.

I was worried about this unexpected turn of events.

“Should I just stand here and wait, or should I go and deliver this?”

“Everything else is fine, but you shouldn’t go to the lab where Jung Jae-ho is alone.”

Saeri’s words echoed in my head. Finally, I decided to go back to the chairman’s office and sat down.

I waited for Ryu Won, rolling the glass vial with my soul fragment back and forth, but after five, ten, twenty minutes, he didn’t return.

I went outside and looked around. There was an emergency exit door across from the chairman’s office. I didn’t know what to do, so I opened the emergency door a little to see what was going on.

A bang.

 “What did I just see?”

With a horrible feeling, I slammed the emergency exit door back shut.
