Waiting For Your Reincarnation

Chapter 1

Ever since I became an adult, I have often had the same dream.

I dreamed that I was walking side by side with a man through a vast, green field with no end in sight.

I walked for a long time without saying a word to him.

When I came to the field, the man spontaneously grabbed my hand.

As if to savor the soft touch of my hand, he held still and ran his thumb periodically over the back of my hand.

The strong sunlight in the field made it impossible to see his face.

Yet it all felt natural and familiar. It was as if I had loved him for a very long time.

Maybe that’s why I couldn’t bring myself to touch him.

The time in the dream passed quickly.

We walked until the sun set, and when night fell, the man led me to a white pillar.

The pole was strung with countless iridescent electric cords.

It was a beautiful pillar, like an electric pole, in the middle of a field.

I smiled bloodily, thinking it was strange, even in my dreams.

The man with silky blonde hair always waved goodbye in front of that pillar.

And always gives a light kiss to say goodbye.

The man turned his head slightly and approached me. I squeezed my eyes shut, knowing what was coming next.

A firm, warm hand wrapped around the nape of my neck, and at the same time, I felt the touch of soft flesh on my lips.

My fingertips tingle as our warm, moist lips meets.

It was a very respectful and affectionate sensation, and despite the fact that it was a very dry kiss with no tongue involved, my whole body was on fire.

After a very long time, the man whose lips I had been touching slowly pulled away.

I still couldn’t recognize who he was or even what he looked like, but I had a hunch that if I ever met him, I would recognize him at once.

 “We will definitely meet again.”

I nodded slightly, hoping that the man’s prayer, which was more like a wish than a prayer, would come true.

Before I knew it, I had awakened. It was a dream I often had as an adult.

***

“I’m definitely having that dream again. Are you really here? ”

I looked around the wide, open field with a puzzled expression. It was both mysterious and peaceful.

After the car accident, I had awakened to find the same field that had appeared in my dreams, waiting for me.

For a brief moment, I considered the premise that this was also a dream, but then I was pulled back to reality.

 “Ow!”

A sharp pain spread across my cheek. It hurt so much that I pinched the spot to distinguish between reality and delusion.

I couldn’t tell exactly where I was, but I wasn’t in a dream.

I rubbed my hot back and lightly touched the grass. I woke up lying in the field, and the grass was warm where I touched it, as if I’d been lying on an electric grid.

The plants were warm. It’s unimaginable that plants have body heat.

Like an eco-friendly, high-efficiency electric plate.

I left the field, feeling soft and warm.

As I stretched out, I felt my eyes meet a light green dew on the blades of grass.

Just as I was about to dismiss it as a mistake, I saw something moving in the grass.

Upon closer inspection, I realized that there were thousands of little lights moving through the grass, revealing themselves as living, breathing creatures.

 “Bu-bug?” “Ming!”

I thought I was facing a mass of thousands of bugs. I jumped to my feet in surprise, tripping over her own legs in the process.

As I fell, the lights bounced near my fall. As if worried, they rubbed themselves against my sprained ankle.

The balls of light, of varying sizes, thankfully did not appear to be bugs.

I don’t know what to call them if I don’t call them lights, but after observing them from a distance, I decided that they were.

Moving and non-moving lights.

I was able to divide the lights in the forest into these two categories, with the moving lights generally being slightly larger than the non-moving lights.

At most, they were a little smaller than the palm of her hand.

On the outside, they glowed as if they contained a tiny sliver of sunlight, but to the touch, they felt like bouncy balls.

“What are you guys doing?” “Ming!”

Unlike me, who was wary of them, the lights reacted very favorably to me from the start.

They clung to me like a friendly puppy and patted me on the back. When I got up to explore the unfamiliar surroundings, they followed me.

The cuter the creature the better, and there was no reason for me to dislike them, so it was only a matter of time before we bonded.

“Let’s go a little further ahead.”

I said.

If this really was my dream world, there should be a white pillar just a little further on.

If that’s the case, then the blond man…

Shaking my head, I stopped thinking and walked forward. After walking a short distance through the seemingly empty field, I saw a white pillar that I hadn’t seen before.

It was the pole I had seen in my dream. The pole resembled a modern telephone pole.

Its surface was carved with geometric patterns without any white space, and the lights climbed up one pole after another.

At the top was a myriad of iridescent wires, each light traveling on a different wire.

Plants with warmth, moving masses of light. It was all too clear that this was not my world.

As I walked, the lights on the grass gave me a path.

Standing in front of the telephone pole, I put my hand on the pole, hoping it would be warm, and it was.

That’s when I noticed a cold pink thread bracelet on my right wrist. My ex-boyfriend, Woojin, had given it to me for good luck.

And that’s when I remembered the last thing I needed to confirm that this wasn’t the real world, as my head hurt like it was going to crack.

 “That’s right, I’m dead.” ***

A few hours before the car accident, I had made a promise to my ex-fiancee Woojin.

It had been months since we’d broken up over his infidelity, and he’d finally called to ask for the expensive ring he’d given me when they were dating.

Strangely, nothing happened that day. The mail at work gets misdirected, the phone gets broken, the car gets stuck in traffic, and I’m late for an appointment.

Woojin kept arguing with me about how he was offended that I made him wait.

“You’ve been inconsiderate since we started dating.”

Woojin said.

So was he so considerate that he cheated on me with my best friend?

Unable to deal with Woojin for long, I threw the ring away and left the café thinking about the relationship that ended in vain.

It was almost 2 a.m., so there weren’t many cars, and I wasn’t sleepy, so I didn’t expect to get into an accident.

As I was organizing my thoughts, I noticed my wrists on the steering wheel.

I noticed that the pink thread bracelet Woojin gave me was emitting a white light. Literally glowing.

I thought it was the moonlight, so I looked closer to see what it was.

 BANG!

I heard a loud bang and felt the car go airborne for a second.  I lost my grip on the steering wheel and my body went limp under the seat belt.

The next thing I know, I was slamming into something hard and the pain was palpable.

When I finally opened my eyes and looked in front of me, I realized that the car had hit a utility pole.

Surprisingly, the pole was leaning against the bumper of the car, glowing like the thread bracelet.

I opened my eyes and saw the field waiting for me.

 “Heh…”

I didn’t immediately recognize the sudden memory.

I could hear the lights screaming for my safety. My hands barely gripped the surface of the pole as I opened my eyes.

A low, watery voice, carried in the wind, pierced my ears.

“I told you we could meet again.” “What?”

Through the blur of my vision, the man from my dream was walking towards me in the distance.
