VOIDBLADE: THE LAST SWORD OF THE END

Chapter 8: Chapter 7: Helping the county

---

The fog still lingered in Emberpine Woods, though the oppressive sense of darkness had lessened. The Shadow Wraith was gone, but its influence remained in the air, like a scar on the land. The villagers were safe—for now—but they knew this wasn't over. The corruption that had infected the woods would take time to fully cleanse, and some of the missing souls were still trapped in the dark.

I could feel the weight of the village's gratitude. They were thankful, but they were also scared. The wraith's defeat was only a temporary victory. There were deeper, darker forces at work here.

I stood at the edge of the village, watching as a few of the elders gathered by the makeshift pyre, the smoke rising into the early evening sky. Their faces were grim, but there was a spark of hope in their eyes. I approached, my footsteps steady and unwavering.

The eldest among them, an old man with a gnarled walking stick and a beard as white as the moon, looked up at me. "You did what none of us could," he said, his voice rough but filled with gratitude. "But the woods... the evil still lingers. We've lost too many. And those who remain... they're not the same."

I nodded. "I can feel it too. The corruption hasn't gone. The souls trapped here—some of them may still be alive, but bound to the shadows. I'll do what I can to free them."

He seemed to understand. "There's a well, an old well deep in the woods. It's said to be cursed, and no one dares go near it. But we believe it holds the key to what's been happening. It might be the source of the corruption. If you can destroy it, we might have a chance."

I didn't hesitate. The well was the next step, the next challenge. I could feel the pull of it—the darkness that waited, just beyond reach. But I also knew this was my path, and I had to see it through. For the villagers, for the lost souls, and for the world itself.

The journey through Emberpine Woods was different now. The trees, though tall and foreboding, didn't feel as alive with malice. But the deeper I went, the more I felt the subtle pull of Void Energy — the same energy that had fueled the wraith. It was corrupting the land, spreading like a cancer through the roots of the forest.

I pressed on, following the elder's directions to the well. It wasn't far from the shrine, hidden under a thick canopy of dark trees and vines. When I reached it, I could feel the malevolent power emanating from the well.

It was old. Older than the shrine. Older than the villagers' memories. And it was still active, its energies pooling into the air, swirling like a dark cloud. I stepped closer, gripping my blade tightly.

The well was deep. I could feel it — something was down there, something that shouldn't be.

Phase 1: The Well's Secrets

I peered over the edge, seeing nothing but inky darkness. The air around the well was thick with oppressive mana, as though the well itself was breathing, waiting.

Suddenly, the air grew colder, and I felt a pulse of magic. A figure rose from the well—its shape indistinct, formless, but the energy was undeniable. The corrupted spirit that had been feeding off the souls of the villagers for so long. It hovered above the well, its energy rippling through the air.

I raised my sword, channeling Abyssal Sword Skill: Void Rend (B Rank). The slash cut through the air, but the spirit was intangible, slipping between the attacks like smoke. I narrowed my eyes, focusing on its essence. This was no ordinary specter—it was part of the well itself.

---

Phase 2: Shattering the Corruption

The spirit surged at me, claws made of darkness reaching out to tear into my flesh. But I wasn't afraid. The Presence of the Abyss (S Rank) flared around me, a blanket of dread that momentarily froze the spirit in place. I could feel its power waning under the pressure of the Void's influence.

Sword Entropy (A Rank) activated as I swung my blade, causing the spirit to distort as its form began to decay under the weight of the strike. But the spirit shrieked, warping its body and forming into multiple smaller shadows, surrounding me from all sides. It was trying to overwhelm me with numbers, but I would not yield.

Void Step (S Rank) allowed me to blink to a higher vantage point, above the shadows. I saw the core of the spirit—the well itself. The spirit wasn't just an entity; it was a manifestation of the well's corruption. If I didn't destroy it, it would continue to spread.

I brought my sword down with all my strength, aiming at the well's heart.

---

Phase 3: Void Severance

With a single, precise strike, I pierced the well's core. The earth shuddered beneath me, and a shockwave of Void energy erupted from the center, ripping the remaining shadows apart in a burst of light and darkness.

The spirit let out one final scream before dissolving into the air, leaving the well to crumble into dust. The oppressive aura in the forest began to fade, and the air felt lighter, as if the land itself had breathed a sigh of relief.

Aftermath: Returning to the Village

I made my way back to the village, the woods no longer feeling as suffocating. The trees seemed taller now, their shadows less ominous. I had done what was needed—destroyed the source of the corruption.

When I returned to the village, the elders greeted me, their faces now full of hope. The darkness was gone, for now.

One of the elders stepped forward, holding a small bundle. "You've saved us, Void God," she said. "In gratitude, we offer you what little we have. May it help you in your journey ahead."
