VOIDBLADE: THE LAST SWORD OF THE END

Chapter 48: Chapter 49:Ashes of Ambition

The night still whispered with the echoes of battle. Briarstead's moon hung heavy and red in the sky, casting its dim light over the shattered ruins of Lord Maldrin's estate. The scent of ozone lingered, the air still charged with the remnants of Jin's storm. The silence after destruction was deafening.

Void God stood at the edge of the great hall's wreckage, his sword still in hand. The blade gleamed darkly, its surface swallowing the light rather than reflecting it. Behind him, the twisted remains of Maldrin lay still — one more rival erased.

Jin stepped beside him, his eyes sweeping over the carnage with satisfaction. "That's one down," he said, his voice still crackling with the energy of the storm. "How many more?"

"Five," Void God answered. His tone was calm, but there was an edge beneath it — the promise of more blood to come. "The other lords won't take this quietly. They'll retaliate. Hard."

Jin grinned, sparks still dancing along his fingers. "Let them. We'll be ready."

But Void God's eyes were distant. The Abyss whispered to him, showing glimpses of what lay ahead. The lords of Briarstead were dangerous — but they weren't the true threat. Not yet. Spies infested the county, their strings pulled by forces far beyond the mortal realm.

They needed to move quickly.

"We strike again before dawn," Void God said, turning away from the ruin. "The longer we wait, the more time they have to prepare."

Jin's grin widened. "Now you're speaking my language."

They left the estate in silence, shadows trailing in their wake.

---

The next target was Lord Verath's stronghold — a fortress carved into the cliffs overlooking the Ashen River. It was a symbol of his power, its black stone walls rising high against the night. Where Maldrin had relied on spies and intrigue, Verath ruled through force. His soldiers were seasoned, his defenses formidable.

It wouldn't matter.

Void God stood at the edge of the treeline, the fortress looming ahead. He closed his eyes, letting Abyssal Insight reach out. The world unfolded — every heartbeat, every breath laid bare. He felt the guards on the walls, the hidden archers in the towers, the wards woven through the air.

He saw their fear.

"They're expecting us," he murmured.

"Good," Jin said. Lightning coiled around his staff, eager and hungry. "Let's not disappoint them."

Void God raised his hand — and the Void answered.

Presence of the Abyss.

A wave of stillness rippled outward. The air grew heavy, the night darker. On the walls, the guards faltered, their movements slowing as dread settled into their bones. The wards flickered, their power unraveling at the edges.

Jin moved first.

Tempest Cloak.

He became a blur of light and motion, crossing the open ground in seconds. The first gate fell in a flash of thunder — the second collapsed moments later. By the time the alarm rose, it was already too late.

Void God followed in silence, his steps slow but inexorable. Where he passed, the Void passed with him — and reality bent beneath its weight.

The courtyard erupted into chaos. Verath's soldiers poured from the barracks, their weapons gleaming — but they might as well have been children.

Void God's sword fell — and the world unraveled.

Void Piercer.

A single thrust distorted the air, and three men dissolved into nothingness.

Jin spun through the ranks, his staff a whirlwind of lightning and death. Every strike brought thunder, every movement left scorched earth behind.

But Verath's forces were disciplined. They rallied quickly, forming a defensive line. Archers took position on the walls, mages raised their hands — and the air filled with fire and steel.

Void God raised his sword — and the Void answered.

Sword Entropy.

The first wave of arrows never reached them. The moment they entered the Void's influence, they began to decay — their shafts splintering, their heads crumbling to dust.

The fire spells met the same fate.

Jin laughed. "They never learn."

The line broke beneath their advance. Lightning scattered the soldiers, the Void consumed what remained. Within minutes, the courtyard was silent once more.

Only one remained.

Lord Verath stood at the entrance to his keep, his armor gleaming black in the moonlight. A massive warhammer rested on his shoulder, runes flickering along its surface. Power radiated from him — but so did fear.

"You don't have to do this," Verath said, his voice steady despite the tremor in his hands. "We can make a deal."

Void God met his gaze — and the Void stared back.

"There is no deal," he said.

Verath roared, charging forward. The ground cracked beneath his steps, his hammer falling with the force of an avalanche. The air howled — and then went still.

Void Step.

Void God reappeared behind him, his sword cutting once. Verath stumbled — but he was fast. The hammer swung in a wide arc, forcing Void God back.

Jin moved in, lightning flashing — but Verath was ready. The hammer struck the ground, and a shockwave of force rippled outward. Jin twisted away, but the edge of the blast caught him, sending him skidding across the courtyard.

But they weren't the only ones who moved quickly.

Void God was already there.

Abyssal Sword Skills: Severing Dusk.

The blade fell — and the light dimmed.

Verath's hammer shattered.

He stared at the broken weapon in disbelief — and then Void God struck again.

The sword pierced his chest, and the Void claimed him.

When the silence returned, only ashes remained.

---

As the first light of dawn crept over Briarstead, two strongholds lay in ruin. Two lords were gone — and the balance of power shifted.

In the shadows, the other lords prepared their defenses. Spies carried word of the destruction, and alliances began to fracture. Fear spread like wildfire.

But fear was only the beginning.

Void God stood at the edge of a cliff, watching the sun rise over the broken lands. Jin joined him, his grin still sharp.

"They'll come for us now," Jin said. "You know that, right?"

Void God nodded. "Let them."

The storm had only just begun.
