Chapter 24: Chapter 25: The Abyss stirs
The fires of rebellion had been snuffed out before they ever truly sparked. By dawn, the name "Void God" spread across Briarstead County like a whispered curse. The lords who had plotted, schemed, and sent their spies now sat in terrified silence. Lord Farin's fortress lay abandoned — his council scattered, his forces in disarray. And no one knew where the next blow would fall.
But the Void God was patient.
In the heart of a secluded cave far from the prying eyes of Briarstead's remaining powers, Void God stood before his brother. Jin — known to most as the rising guild leader Ghost Father — watched him with a mixture of awe and concern. The flickering light of the crystal lanterns cast long shadows on the stone walls, but none stretched as deep as the one standing before him.
"Farin's fall wasn't enough," Jin said quietly, arms crossed. "The others are scared, yeah. But they'll regroup. They'll try to hire more mercenaries. Maybe even bring in players from other territories."
Void God nodded. "Let them." His voice was cold, but there was a quiet edge of anticipation underneath it. "When they move, they'll expose their true strength. And when they do — I'll erase them."
Jin shook his head. "You can't fight the whole county alone, brother. You might be strong, but even you have limits."
"Not for long."
The words hung heavy in the air.
Jin stared at him. "What did you see?"
For a long moment, Void God didn't answer. The memories of the Abyss still burned behind his eyes — the endless realms, the waiting darkness, the presence of the Void God itself. It had been more than a vision. It had been a revelation.
"I saw the end," he said finally. "And I saw the path to power that goes beyond this world's understanding. Beyond mortal, divine, even conceptual limits." His eyes met Jin's, and for a brief second, they gleamed with cold violet light. "What I have now… is only the beginning."
Jin's breath caught. "And you think Briarstead's just a step on that path?"
Void God's lips curled into the faintest shadow of a smile. "A stepping stone."
Jin exhaled slowly. "Then we need more than whispers and fear. We need numbers. Allies." He glanced at the map spread between them — a worn parchment covered in red marks and scribbled notes. "The lords are bleeding, but their armies still stand. If they unite, they'll overwhelm us."
"Then we break them before they unite," Void God said. "But you're right — we'll need resources. Fighters. Experts."
Jin grinned. "Funny you should say that." He reached into his inventory and pulled out a small black crystal — glowing faintly with pulsing energy. "I've been scouting talent. And there's a lot of power waiting to be bought — if you've got the coin."
Void God's gaze flicked to the crystal. "Show me."
The crystal flared — and the air above the map shimmered, forming a series of images and names. Jin's network hadn't been idle.
Kaela Nightshade (Level 42) — Assassin, shadow affinity. A killer with a reputation for taking down targets far above her level. Ruthless, efficient, and currently unaffiliated.
Doran Steelshaper (Level 38) — Blacksmith and warcrafter. Known for creating enchanted weapons that rival high-level drops. Loyal only to coin.
Varkas the Bloodhound (Level 45) — Mercenary commander. Leads a group of elite fighters known as the Red Fangs. Expensive, but deadly.
"And these are just the highlights," Jin said. "Give me the word, and I'll start the negotiations."
Void God considered the names — the possibilities. "We take Nightshade first. I want someone who can move unseen." His eyes flicked back to Jin. "And we'll need more than mercenaries. Equipment. Supply chains. Safehouses."
Jin nodded. "I've got a few contacts for that too. Smugglers, enchanters — even a couple of territory scouts. But it won't be cheap."
Void God opened his inventory — and the weight of his wealth settled over the room. Trillions in gold. Artifacts gathered from long-forgotten dungeons. Weapons and armor that hadn't seen use since his early rise.
"Money won't be an issue," he said simply.
Jin whistled. "Alright then. Let's build an empire."
But Void God wasn't listening. His eyes had fallen on one item — an ancient, jet-black ring pulsing with dormant power.
[Ring of the Abyssborn]
Increases Void-affinity skills by 25%
Reduces cooldowns on Abyssal techniques by 20%
Grants the skill Abyssal Summon (A Rank) — call forth a creature from the Void to serve you
He hadn't needed it before. Now? The time had come.
He equipped the ring. And somewhere deep in the realms beyond reality, something stirred.
---
The lords of Briarstead never knew the noose had tightened.
By the end of the week, their spies had vanished. Their mercenary contracts were intercepted — their shipments rerouted. The Red Fangs turned coat, sold out by their own commander. Kaela Nightshade slipped into the shadows under Void God's command — her blades already whispering through enemy ranks.
And the fear grew.
When the storm finally broke, it wouldn't just be war.
It would be annihilation.
