Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Unlock Condition – Become the Mui Family’s Son-in-Law
After learning the identities of the two girls, Zhou Haoyu remained calm on the surface, but inside, stormy waves were crashing in his heart.
To think he'd run into them like this?
Zhou Haoyu forcibly suppressed his shock and looked up at the tops of their heads sure enough, there were two sparkling treasure chests above them.
[Unlock Condition: Become the Mui Family's Son-in-Law.]
"You've got to be kidding me…"
The corner of Zhou Haoyu's mouth twitched. He was already engaged. No matter how exceptional his talent was, there was no way Mu Zhankong would agree to it.
Unless he had something that could truly tempt the Mu Clan.
But the entire Zhou family couldn't even compare to the Mu Clan let alone Zhou Haoyu, a mere mid-tier Mage.
[Unlock Condition: Correct her lovestruck personality.]
Zhou Haoyu rubbed his eyes, unable to believe what he was seeing. Helping Ai Tutu correct her lovestruck personality wasn't this difficulty on par with defeating the Red Demon?
Though not impossible. After all, Ai Tutu had only just entered her second year of high school. There might still be a chance to guide her back onto the right path.
The key point was that the boundary of being "lovestruck" was unclear. It was perfectly natural to like handsome guys or pretty girls—if that was enough to be disqualified, then this unlock condition would be downright impossible to complete.
Sigh… guess I'll just take it one step at a time.
"Hey, hey, even if you're mesmerized by my beauty, there's no need to make that kind of face," Ai Tutu complained with some dissatisfaction.
"Sorry, what did you just say? I didn't quite catch that."
Zhou Haoyu forced down the shock in his heart and put on a polite smile.
Ai Tutu gave him a look of disdain and muttered, "Are you really a Hunter Mage? You don't seem professional at all."
Across from them, Lingling was chewing on a lollipop and had no intention of helping out with the conversation.
"Tutu!" Mu Nujiao pulled Ai Tutu behind her, then said apologetically, "Sorry, we just wanted to ask if you were here to investigate Cafeteria No. 2?"
Zhou Haoyu paused for a moment, then nodded. "We did take on the commission. Do you two know something about it?"
"One of the victims is my classmate. I found her unconscious on the stairs yesterday morning. There were two thumb-sized wounds on her arm, and the air had a strange smell."
Mu Nujiao spoke with a serious expression.
"Just two wounds? Did you check anywhere else?" Zhou Haoyu asked with a frown.
"No… her clothes were all intact at the time, so there probably weren't any other injuries," Mu Nujiao replied, though her tone was somewhat unsure.
Zhou Haoyu furrowed his brow. If there were only two wounds, that meant the demon didn't gnaw on its victim it only injected poison through the bite.
Could it be that the demon was so confident the poison alone would kill the two girls?
But then what was the point? That didn't make any sense…
At that moment, Ai Tutu suddenly leaned over the table in front of Zhou Haoyu, hands pressed firmly on the surface. "You're going hunting tonight, right? Can we come along?"
Looking at the overwhelming and bountiful scene right in front of him, Zhou Haoyu swallowed hard.
Just what the heck had Ai Tutu been eating to grow this much at only sixteen or seventeen years old?
"No way. It's too dangerous," Zhou Haoyu rejected her outright without the slightest hesitation.
Even if Mu Nujiao and Ai Tutu were talented, at best they were just Basic Tier-level 2 Mages. They couldn't handle even a Servant-class demon.
"Without me and Sister Mu helping, you won't be able to handle it alone!"
Ai Tutu clearly didn't believe in Zhou Haoyu's strength. After all, he looked pretty young probably just one grade above them at most.
"That's none of your concern," Zhou Haoyu replied flatly.
Zhou Haoyu was planning to go to Cafeteria No. 2 by himself that evening. After all, Lingling's combat power barely registered she was more suitable for logistics support.
As for Mu Nujiao and Ai Tutu, even though they could cast magic, to Zhou Haoyu, they were still burdens.
Besides, if the demon was too dangerous, he'd have to use his Mental Power and that was his trump card!
"Hmph, just don't end up like those two other Hunters carried out on a stretcher," Ai Tutu said in frustration.
"Tutu!"
Mu Nujiao quickly scolded her. Ai Tutu always said whatever popped into her head, without thinking it through at all.
The moment Ai Tutu saw that Mu Nujiao was angry, she immediately became quiet and obedient.
"It's getting late—we'll head off now. Hope your demon hunt goes smoothly."
With that, Mu Nujiao dragged Ai Tutu away. She was genuinely worried that this busty airhead would cause more trouble.
Watching the two glowing treasure chests disappear from view, Zhou Haoyu suddenly felt a hollow emptiness inside.
"You're really planning to go demon hunting alone?" Lingling suddenly asked. Her face was expressionless as always, but her tone carried a hint of concern.
"Why, are you going to help me?" Zhou Haoyu replied casually.
"This demon definitely isn't simple. If you can't handle it, then just run. You're a Space Mage after all escaping shouldn't be a problem." Lingling spoke seriously.
The corners of Zhou Haoyu's mouth curled slightly upward. This little Lingling was getting more and more adorable the more he looked at her.
As night fell, Zhou Haoyu told Lingling to stay behind at the library while he went alone to Cafeteria No. 2 to investigate.
Upon entering the cafeteria, the moonlight that had barely illuminated the path grew even dimmer, and his vision turned into near total darkness.
The only useful source of light was the phone in Zhou Haoyu's hand.
The huge cafeteria was eerily empty, and from time to time, a rustling wind echoed through the place, sending chills down his spine.
Based on the limited clues they had, Zhou Haoyu headed straight for the staircase leading to the second floor.
Just then, Zhou Haoyu caught a strange smell in the air, and a rustling sound came from the staircase ahead. The sound grew clearer as the source drew nearer.
Zhou Haoyu raised his phone and shone the light toward the stairs. A black shadow quickly came into view.
The creature was around two meters long, incredibly flat, and only about twenty to thirty centimeters thick.
As he got closer, he saw that its shell was a dark red color, glowing with a strange sheen. Its surface was covered with clusters of knobby bumps, giving it an eerie appearance at first glance.
Two antennae jutted from its head, thick like wooden clubs, flailing wildly in the air each swing sent a shiver down his spine.
Below, it had six legs thick and long, lined with sharp barbs that scraped against the floor, creating a shrill screeching sound.
"This damn thing's breaking the laws of nature!"
Zhou Haoyu was at a complete loss for words. So southern cockroaches really could carry people?
"Lightning Strike: Warth Shock!"
Zhou Haoyu raised his right hand high. As the Star Path formed, arcs of lightning surged down, bombarding the Scarlet Armored Cockroach.
The Scarlet Armored Cockroach didn't even try to dodge. It simply stood there motionless, enduring the full brunt of the lightning until the storm finally ended.
