Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Bullying the Weak is Shameful
Jing Wuji didn't say much more to Mo Fan, only gave him a reminder: "Go easy on him. Don't traumatize the guy."
Jing Wuji was well aware of Mo Fan's strength. Even more so now that he had passed along some helpful advice based on his own experience from his previous life playing games. At this point, Mo Fan's combat power was off the charts.
The banquet below had come to its final moments. Once it ended, the duel between Mo Fan and Mu Yu'ang would begin.
The three of them left the rooftop. Jing Wuji pushed Xin Xia's wheelchair over to Mo Jiaxing, who now wore a broad smile on his face—proud that his family had suddenly produced three mages.
People nearby occasionally came up to chat with Mo Jiaxing, their tone filled with compliments and envy.
Mo Jiaxing responded cheerfully to everyone, making sure not to offend a soul.
Zhan Kong, Principal Zhu, Deng Kai from the Hunter Alliance, and Yang Zuohe, a mid-tier mage from the Magic Association, were all in attendance. Meanwhile, one of the main focuses of attention—Mo Fan—was still there munching away on the banquet food.
"You've got some nerve showing up!" Guo Caitang, who had entered with her teammates, was furious when she saw Mo Fan eating like nothing was wrong.
"Just grabbing a bite. Not gonna lie, the Mu family's food is pretty good," Mo Fan said, picking his teeth with a toothpick after finishing.
"If you apologize now, I can still tell Yu'ang to go easy on you," Guo Caitang huffed.
"You're nuts," Mo Fan shrugged and started walking toward the open dueling ground.
"You—!" Guo Caitang stomped her foot in anger.
As Mo Fan walked off, he was suddenly stopped by Zhan Kong, who had just managed to escape from a group of married women.
"Kid, not bad! You showed up to the banquet," Zhan Kong said, patting Mo Fan on the shoulder in approval.
"You here to freeload too? Or is this another matchmaking setup?" Mo Fan didn't expect to run into his old head instructor here.
"Ahem, mind your tone, will you?" Zhan Kong coughed awkwardly. Then he thumped his chest and offered, "After graduation, why don't you come to my unit? If you get into a good university, the military can cover your expenses. And I know you're not the type to sit still. With the government backing you, you could trample over any rich brat you don't like—we'll clean up the mess for you."
"No thanks. I still want to see the big cities," Mo Fan declined outright.
If Jing Wuji were here, he'd scold Mo Fan for his lack of tact. Would it kill him to refuse politely? Being so blunt just makes things awkward for everyone.
"Fine, to each their own. I won't press. But if you ever want to join the army, come find me," Zhan Kong said, giving Mo Fan a final pat on the back. As he walked away, he whispered, "Watch out for Mu Yu'ang."
"Watch out for what?" Mo Fan asked, confused, but Zhan Kong was already gone without looking back.
At the duel arena, the tiered seating on both sides was enough to seat all the banquet guests.
Mo Fan stood at the center of the arena. Mu Yu'ang had yet to show up, clearly trying to make a statement by being late.
Before long, Mu Yu'ang finally appeared, dressed in a specially tailored outfit—extravagant and eye-catching.
In contrast, Mo Fan wore a plain set of clothes, creating a stark difference between them.
As the two took their positions, referee Deng Kai gave the signal. They shook hands briefly before returning to their designated spots.
"Duel, begin!" At the referee's shout, the duel between Mo Fan and Mu Yu'ang officially started!
A ball of flame suddenly burst to life in Mo Fan's hand, its searing heat seemingly capable of incinerating everything around it.
"Fire Burst · Scorch!"
Mo Fan hurled the fireball, sending it flying straight toward Mu Yu'ang.
The fireball was launched almost simultaneously with the starting whistle.
Mu Yu'ang hadn't even reacted yet before the fireball was nearly in his face.
A flash of blue light shimmered over Mu Yu'ang's body, and a set of armored magic gear appeared just in time to block Mo Fan's probing attack.
"Tch, so he has armored magic gear. That's what Head Instructor Zhan Kong was warning me about," Mo Fan muttered. "Gotta admit, if I hadn't learned pre-casting from Wuji, I wouldn't have been able to test that out so quickly."
Pre-casting involved connecting six stars along a star path in advance. When it was time to cast, you just connected the final star and the spell would activate instantly—this was the essence of pre-casting.
Mo Fan raised his hand, a violet star trail flashing in his pupils.
"Thunder Seal · Python Mark!"
Bolts of lightning appeared around Mu Yu'ang like raging pythons. Before Mu Yu'ang could finish linking his star path, Mo Fan clenched his hand—lightning crashed down on Mu Yu'ang, cutting off his spell casting.
This was another technique Jing Wuji had taught him—interrupting spells. Using a control-type spell to break an opponent's casting not only disrupted the spell but also caused them to waste mana for nothing.
"Ahhh!" Mu Yu'ang let out a painful scream as the lightning struck him.
Mo Fan didn't give him a chance to recover—another Fire Burst · Scorch hit Mu Yu'ang.
Boom! The flame struck Mu Yu'ang again. Though it didn't do much damage, it once again interrupted his spellcasting.
The damage was minimal, but the humiliation was immense.
Mo Fan didn't let up. Seeing that Mu Yu'ang was about to recover, he fired another Thunder Seal · Python Mark, interrupting his spell yet again.
Zzzzt! Electric currents coursed through Mu Yu'ang's body, leaving his limbs numb and twitching.
Mo Fan was like a spell-casting machine gun, alternating between first-tier Fire Burst and Thunder Seal spells, giving Mu Yu'ang no chance to fight back.
Boom!
Zzzzt!
Boom!
Zzzzt!
The alternating sounds of fire and lightning formed a rhythm.
In the audience, Jing Wuji heard it and playfully joined in. He found a pair of chopsticks and a porcelain bowl and cup and began tapping in sync with Mo Fan's spell impacts.
Together, the two created a bizarre but strangely melodious performance.
Meanwhile, the faces of the Mu family members in the stands turned black with anger. A profound sense of humiliation filled their hearts.
But the other guests were thoroughly entertained. They had come to see a duel, discovered a young dual-element mage—and got a musical performance on top of it.
On the battlefield, Mo Fan also noticed Jing Wuji's rhythm and happily played along.
To him, these first-tier spells barely consumed any mana, and he had only used about a quarter of his reserves so far.
Mu Yu'ang, on the other hand, was like a human sandbag, getting bombarded repeatedly by magic.
His injuries were piling up, and the shame was making his face burn red.
He was the young master of the Mu family! A Tier 3 mage at the basic level—how could he be overwhelmed by just two low-level spells and unable to fight back?
Stand up! he screamed in his mind. Ningxue is still watching me!
But with Jing Wuji's coaching and Mo Fan's real-world experience hunting monsters, Mo Fan had mastered perfect timing. He never gave Mu Yu'ang the slightest chance to break free from his control.
Soon, Mo Fan got bored. After all, bullying a weak opponent wasn't that fun. He raised his hand and threw out a much larger ball of flame.
"Fire Burst · Bone Scorch!"
The fireball hit Mu Yu'ang. His Ice Silkworm Armor blocked the brunt of the blast, but the flames quickly began to burn on their own across his body.
"Thunder Seal · Rampaging Lash!"
A lightning whip formed above Mu Yu'ang's head and began striking him relentlessly.
Under the combined assault of physical pain and spiritual humiliation, Mu Yu'ang lost consciousness.
Mo Fan waved his hand, and the flames and lightning vanished instantly as if they had never been there.
Mo Fan—wins!
