Varocia : From Gamer to Mentor

Chapter 35: Two Equipments

After much back-and-forth and nearly a civil war in the Magect's castle dining hall, Olgan's Guild Rank was finally established as Private Instructor, which meant his role was to guide Edith on her path.

He opened the Guild Interface and scanned the roster of members. He had previously took a glance at the Blazane Guild, where the Guild Master was, of course, the Emperor. The Duke of Magect held the position of Vice Guild Master, as did the other two dukes, while the Empress shared the same rank.

As a Citizen Rank, Olgan enjoyed no real benefits apart from using it as identification to verify his affiliation with the Blazane Empire. However, as a Private Instructor of the Magect Guild, he received some advantages: his STR and INT percentages increased by 5%. Not a significant boost, but still a helpful enhancement.

Still, it seemed his previous joke had been taken far too seriously by the duke and duchess. Both of them smiled warmly at him, making him feel a little uneasy.

"So, husband, when will you let me burn your wardrobe?" the duchess asked, her eyes gleaming with excitement.

The duke sighed. "I'd love to let you do it, my lovely wife. Half-burned clothes sound perfectly suited to my artistic sensibilities, but I know it would be rude and inappropriate to wear those on duty."

"That's unfortunately true. How about I burn only your sleepwear?"

"Now that's a splendid idea, my lovely wife!"

Olgan struggled to comprehend their mindset, but as long as they got along, it should be fine, right?

He leaned closer to Lenna and whispered, "Are they always like this?"

With a soft smile, she replied, "Yes, it's quite lively here whenever the duke and duchess are in the castle. Sadly, they aren't around often."

"They must be really strong, I assume?"

"Yes, they are literally the Empire's trump card—a weapon of mass destruction, so to speak," she said calmly.

"A weapon of mass destruction..." he gulped, but fortunately, they seemed down-to-earth and easygoing, if a bit eccentric. Everyone had their quirks; he wouldn't judge.

At that moment, Aqualia returned, carrying an asymmetrical white fur armor with a grayish-blue sheen. It looked comfortable and was designed for agile Classes to wear. Despite its asymmetry, it had an acceptable aesthetic, giving it a fantasy-like appeal.

Overall, Olgan was quite satisfied with the appearance of the armor.

The duke frowned. "Aqualia, don't we have better-looking armor with superior performance in the vault? Why bring this mediocre one?"

By "better-looking," do you mean something like your current attire? Please, no... Olgan thought silently, a little afraid.

Aqualia glanced at Olgan and adjusted her glasses. "Sir Olgan mentioned he preferred white and blue."

I never said tha- oh, I see… Thank you, Aqualia! He wanted to give her a thumbs up but remained still. Besides, thumbs up has no meaning here..

Noticing his reaction, the duchess seemed to take a liking to him even more. Finally, someone with normal artistic sensibility!

"Well, that can't be helped…" the duke sighed in resignation.

Olgan accepted the armor from Aqualia, nodding in appreciation.

"I noticed you have a fine artistic sense. Is this to your liking?" she asked calmly.

"Of course, I'm very satisfied. Thank you!" he smiled, watching her adjust her invisible glasses as she walked away to stand by.

Huh, where did her glasses go? Olgan wondered, but his attention was already captured by the armor.

"Inspect," he called out.

------

Name: Everlasting Sky

Grade: Rare

Condition: Level 11 and above

Description: A normal armor that was once lost inside a collapsing space caused by a fight between high level individuals. It absorbed the power of the sky as it continued to drift inside the collapsed space until it got forced out by the mending of space. Unfortunately, if it was inside the collapsed space a little longer, it would have evolved into an Epic Grade Equipment.

Effect: While wearing the armor, any damage inflicted to the wearer will be decreased by 15%, this effect is double when there is a sky.

------

"Good stuff!" he exclaimed, feeling very satisfied with the armor.

The effect would remain active at 30% all the time, since he has always been connected to the sky, and he had no plans to enter any caves or ruins.

"Can I put it on now?" he asked, turning to the duke.

The duke nodded with a smile. "Go ahead."

He wasted no time donning the armor over his clothes and walked toward a mirror that Aqualia had set up at some point.

Somehow, it fit him perfectly, enhancing his scholarly appearance despite being an armor. It's quite ideal for a Mentor Class. It was also incredibly comfortable; he felt like he could easily fall asleep in it without needing to remove it. Rather than calling it armor, it would be more accurate to describe it as a high-class fur garment.

"Can this block fixed damage?" he inquired curiously.

Aqualia answered, "No, it can't."

"Well, that's a bit disappointing, but it's still impressive for a Level 11 piece of equipment." He admired his reflection for a moment before returning to his seat.

"Here, take this as well; consider it a bonus reward." The duchess smiled and vanished for a brief moment, returning in a swirl of blue particles, an ancient book in her hands.

Did she just teleport? he wondered, watching the shimmering blue particles around her.

"Consider this your bonus for saving my daughter," she said, walking toward him and handing over the ancient-looking book.

"My lovely wife, it's 'our' daughter," the duke corrected her gently.

She shot him a glare. "We will eventually divorce, so 'my' daughter is correct."

As they bickered, Olgan flipped through the book, leaning toward Lenna and whispering, "How many times has she said that?"

"The divorce thing? I've heard from the maids that it's been this way since they got married," she whispered back.

"They sure get along well, huh?" he chuckled, turning his attention back to the book.

The cover was made of a supple brown leather, not thick but radiating a sense of history. The title read, "Loas Renatus."

What does that even mean? Is it the author's name? He flipped the book over but found no other text.

"Inspect," he murmured, feeling that he didn't need to raise his voice as much as before. Perhaps it wouldn't be long before he could call out commands mentally, like Edith.

------

Name: Loas Renatus

Grade: Cursed

Description: An ancient book from unknown ruin. It absorbed the characteristic of the ruin's defensive mechanicsm, wanting to preserve the will of the ancient civilization. However, with the long lost of time, its texts have become gibberish for the people of the current era, making the holders lost their mind overtime as the book keep whispering incomprehensive words into their soul.

Effect: While holding this book in your hand, generate an invisible shield that blook 50 damage from the incoming attacks. However, the holder's soul will randomly suffer from the whisper of the book, decreasing all of their Attribute by 1% permanently. (Note: If any of your attributes fall below 0%, you will lose your sense of self permanently.)
