Chapter 9: Reactions

[News Broadcast]

"We bring you today's news. There was an attack on a fishing warehouse, which turned out to be a hub for drug operations and child trafficking. However, thanks to the intervention of a new vigilante, the operation was brought to an end. According to a 7-year-old witness, the vigilante, known as Corvus, was responsible for stopping the criminals. The witness described Corvus as a man wearing a raven mask, black armor, and a mantle. He is said to be strong enough to take down Rhino, a major criminal who had been on the run from authorities. Except for Rhino, no one was left alive at the scene. In response, the police chief has issued a manhunt for the vigilante, Corvus. Now, moving on to other news..."

Xavier's Mansion

"So, we're going to find this Corvus guy? How? And are we even sure he's a mutant?" the tall, blue-skinned mutant, Beast, asked as Scott switched off the TV and turned his head toward Professor X, also known as Charles Xavier, an Omega-level telepath. His red glasses reflected the light as he looked at the professor with an intense gaze.

"Yes, how are we supposed to find this Corvus guy? He doesn't exactly seem like the type to appear on cue," Scott said, a hint of frustration in his voice. The goodwill and public image they had been slowly building seemed to have evaporated, replaced by fear and suspicion.

"There must be a way to find him. I'm sure of it. If not, then we'll have to make one," Wolverine growled, his claws flexing slightly.

"One thing's for sure—Corvus operates in New York. We should start our search there before expanding to other locations," Storm said calmly but firmly. She leaned against the wall, arms crossed over her chest, her white costume gleaming under the light.

"Yes, Storm is right. There must be a way to find him," the professor said, his voice calm and reassuring as always.

Magneto's Hideout

Magneto waved his hand, switching off the news channel. He turned to Mystique, his expression serious. "Mystique, find him. See if he's willing to cooperate with us."

Mystique, her blue skin shimmering slightly, raised an eyebrow. "And if he's not?"

"Then we'll deal with him later. Now go. Get to him before Charles does," Magneto commanded, his voice cold and decisive.

Sister Margaret's Bar

Meanwhile, Ren, in his Corvus getup, sat in Sister Margaret's bar, enjoying the aftermath of his first successful mission. The atmosphere of the bar was surprisingly chill—something he never expected from a place frequented by mercenaries and criminals.

"Here, on the house," Weasel said, sliding a cup of high-quality alcohol toward him. The man had been grinning ever since Ren reported destroying one of Fisk's operations the previous day.

Ren nodded and took the cup, downing it in one go. He had no worries about "normal poison"—his regeneration made him immune to such things. As he drank, his mind wandered. Rhino should be in prison by now, spreading the word that a new player was in town. That was the reason he hadn't killed him. Looking back, it might have been the wrong decision. Sigh. Maybe he should have killed Rhino and used the points he gained to increase his power. But as they say, no use crying over spilled milk. He gestured to Weasel for another drink.

"That first cup was on the house, not the whole bottle, mister," Weasel said with a smirk.

Ren stared at him for a moment. "What a cheapskate," he muttered under his breath.

Weasel's sharp ears caught it, and he replied, "No, it's called running a business," wagging his finger left to right like a parent scolding a child.

Before Ren could retort, the atmosphere of the bar shifted dramatically. A man dressed entirely in white entered—white shirt, white pants, white shoes, and a white mask adorned with a half-crescent moon. He walked slowly but purposefully toward the mission board, a moon-shaped dagger in his hand. Without a word, he stabbed the dagger into the board, then turned to face the room.

"Stay out of my territory, and I'll stay out of yours," he said, his voice calm but carrying an icy, chilling tension. His eyes scanned the room, locking with Ren's for just a second. That brief moment was enough for Ren to realize one thing: in a prolonged battle, he could lose. This man could quickly figure out Ren's vampiric nature. And he had one advantage Ren didn't: the ability to return from death.

As the man turned to leave, Ren recognized him. He was none other than Moon Knight, the enigmatic follower of the moon god Khonshu.

. I'll deal with him later, Ren thought, his mind already calculating the risks and strategies.

Moon Knight slowly began to walk away, stopping briefly at the door. Without turning around, he added, "This will be my first and last warning to you all." With that, he stepped out, leaving an uneasy silence in his wake.

The mood in the bar had shifted entirely. Ren sighed, standing up from his seat. "Well, he just killed the mood. I should head out too," he muttered, tossing a few bills onto the counter for Weasel. The bar, once lively, now felt heavy with tension, and Ren had no intention of sticking around to see what might happen next.
