{Chapter: 267 Powerful!}
Without a trace of hesitation, Lin Yuan casually shook out the shirt and brought it closer, taking a soft, deliberate sniff—right in front of Chi Qian.
Chi Qian's cheeks flushed ever so slightly. Her eyes darted away for a moment, her usual calm shaken by Lin Yuan's unexpected boldness.
Lin Yuan smiled as he lowered the shirt and spoke with a light, teasing tone. "This shirt actually tends to fade a little when it's washed. I forgot to tell you last time. Didn't it get stained?"
His voice was casual, but there was a genuine concern behind it. He was worried that the color of the shirt might have run when washed in a machine, possibly leaving marks or discoloration.
Chi Qian, however, gave a gentle shake of her head and smiled gracefully.
"It's alright. I washed it by hand, so there was no problem."
Lin Yuan blinked, a bit surprised.
He hadn't expected that from her—a young lady from a very privileged background, elegant and graceful, with no shortage of admirers. And yet she had chosen to wash his shirt by hand.
"You did?" he said, a bit taken aback. "No wonder it smells so good."
As he said that, he pulled the shirt over himself with a satisfied smile.
Chi Qian, hearing his compliment, turned slightly pink again. This simple act of returning a shirt had somehow become unexpectedly intimate.
What Lin Yuan didn't know was that this wasn't just any ordinary act for Chi Qian. This had been her first time ever hand-washing clothes for someone else—especially for a man. It was not just rare; it was unprecedented for her.
Trying to ease the faint awkwardness in the air, Lin Yuan smoothly changed the subject. "You mentioned earlier that I've been showing off my skills. How about this—you join me. Show off your skills too. Let me see how much you've improved. Think you can beat me at shooting this time?"
Chi Qian's expression changed immediately, and she shook her head in a hurry, hands raised slightly in refusal.
"No, no, let's not do that. I'm not trying to compete with you in shooting pistols. I know when I'm outmatched. You're way too good with a handgun. Let's find another way to compare."
Chi Qian wasn't foolish. She still remembered vividly how terrifyingly accurate Lin Yuan had been with a pistol the last time they practiced together. His control, timing, and precision were on a level that didn't even seem normal. She even had a sneaking suspicion that he hadn't gone all out—that he'd been holding back.
And to challenge someone like that? No thank you.
Seeing Chi Qian's playful refusal, Lin Yuan laughed, amused by her quick retreat. "Then what do you suggest? How else do we compare?" he asked with a grin.
Chi Qian's lips curved into a smile. Her eyes sparkled with quiet mischief. "This time, I'll be better at shooting. But not with a pistol," she said with confidence. "Let's use sniper rifles instead."
Hearing her words, Lin Yuan raised an eyebrow slightly, his interest piqued. A smirk tugged at the corners of his lips, mirroring Chi Qian's expression.
He understood her challenge immediately.
Chi Qian was competitive by nature, especially when it came to him. If she couldn't win using pistols, then she'd find another weapon where she had a chance—sniper rifles.
But Lin Yuan also knew that using a sniper rifle wasn't any easier. If anything, it was even more demanding than handling a handgun. A sniper rifle is a precision weapon, designed for long-range targeting. Accuracy depended not just on the shooter's skill, but on a variety of complex environmental factors—wind direction, speed, humidity, air pressure, even the curvature of the bullet's trajectory over distance.
Sniper shooting was a science as much as it was an art.
And that's why Chi Qian had chosen it confidently.
The reason Chi Qian proposed using sniper rifles was simple—she was confident in her skills. Among all the firearms she had trained with, the sniper rifle was her specialty.
Chi Qian truly didn't believe that Lin Yuan, who had surprised her with a pistol once, could possibly be just as competent with a sniper rifle. After all, sniper rifles were a completely different beast—requiring patience, precise calculation, and an understanding of wind, distance, and elevation. She assumed this would give her an edge.
What she didn't know, however, was that Lin Yuan had already reached the peak of sniper mastery. He had previously raised his sniper rifle proficiency to divine level when preparing to assassinate Ye Feng. His skills with long-range precision weaponry were far beyond what Chi Qian could imagine.
So when she confidently made her proposal, Lin Yuan couldn't help but give a slightly amused smile.
"Oh? If you say you're better with a sniper rifle…" Lin Yuan paused, the corners of his mouth curling upward.
"Want to place a little wager again?" he said with a light chuckle. "How about another meal on the line?"
Chi Qian's eyes immediately narrowed with suspicion. The way Lin Yuan was smiling made her feel uneasy, like she had walked into a trap.
'Wait… could it be that he's also skilled with sniper rifles?' she thought to herself.
Back when she had been teaching him how to use a pistol, he had played the part of a curious beginner so convincingly. If he had been faking it then, what else could he be hiding?
Although a part of her refused to believe it, she also remembered the last time she bet with Lin Yuan—and lost.
After thinking for a moment, she wisely shook her head. "Forget the bet this time. Let's just compare for fun."
Lin Yuan gave a casual shrug, still smiling. "Alright. As you wish."
The two soon made their way to the rifle shooting range. Unlike the pistol range, this one was much wider and open, designed specifically for long-distance accuracy training.
Chi Qian, determined to win, made a special request. "Let's shoot at moving targets."
She wasn't about to let Lin Yuan rely on pistol-like accuracy at a stationary target. Moving targets would change everything—it required tracking speed, lead timing, and absolute control.
Lin Yuan, however, didn't bat an eye. "Sure," he said calmly. To him, this level of difficulty was still far from challenging. After all, he could hit targets in a moving vehicle if he wanted to. A few slow-moving silhouettes wouldn't change much.
The staff at the club quickly activated the system. A human-shaped target was placed exactly one kilometer away and began moving laterally from left to right. The scoring system was detailed—the highest score came from a perfect hit at the center of the forehead, right between the brows.
Chi Qian took the first shot.
Bang!
A crisp gunshot echoed across the range.
Everyone looked at the distant target. A neat hole appeared just at the right eye of the figure. She had missed the bullseye, but it was still an impressive shot.
The digital scoring board lit up: 95 points.
Chi Qian let out a small breath and turned slightly, ready to flash Lin Yuan a proud smile.
But before she could even speak, Lin Yuan had already aimed and fired.
Bang!
The sound was calm, controlled, and precise.
In the next second, the target stopped. A red light blinked at the very center of the forehead—direct hit.
The score appeared: 100 points.
Chi Qian stood frozen, stunned. Her lips parted slightly in disbelief.
'What... how?' she wondered. 'How can he be this good with a sniper rifle too?'
Was this a natural gift? Or was he hiding his true skills all along?
Lin Yuan glanced at her sideways, smiling but saying nothing. He didn't offer any explanation. He didn't need to.
Watching her speechless, wide-eyed expression, with her soft red lips slightly parted in astonishment, was more than enough of a reward.
He inwardly chuckled. She probably thinks this was just a lucky shot…Good. Lin Yuan prefers that Chi Qian think he has won by accident. That makes it easier for me next time—when I go for the 'anaconda choke', or maybe even the 'rear naked choke'... (T/N: martial arts chokehold)
