Urban Seduction: Housewives Club

Chapter 985: The Four Gentlemen of Wanghai

Lan Wen was, at her core, a girl who admired strength.

In her view, while having a good temper was a virtue for a man, the right amount of dominance was even more important; otherwise, wouldn't he just be a sissy?

So, at this moment, she couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed in Ye Fei.

At the same time, Lan Wen felt a pang of bitterness. The boy who had first made her heart flutter turned out to lack manliness.

In her gloom, she simply started drinking, one glass after another. Although the table was mostly women, and they were served red wine, she would still get drunk quickly if she kept this up.

The women who had been teasing Ye Fei soon noticed and thought Lan Wen was angry. They stopped the teasing and pushed Ye Fei over to Lan Wen, saying, "Jingwen, you're not that petty, are you? We were just joking around. Here he is, back to you."

Ye Fei was also puzzled by Lan Wen's sudden change and gently asked, "Jingwen, what's wrong?"

Ye Fei's gentleness, however, didn't cheer Lan Wen up. Instead, it made her even more irritable.

At this moment, she would have preferred if Ye Fei had shouted at her or someone else. It wasn't that she had a masochistic tendency; it was just that such behavior would prove that Ye Fei was a man with a temper and true masculinity.

"Nothing, I just suddenly feel a bit annoyed," Lan Wen replied. Although she was unhappy, she didn't take it out on Ye Fei. Even though she was disappointed, she found herself liking him more and more. This feeling was contradictory, yet completely out of her control.

Ye Fei was about to try to console Lan Wen when he saw a young man rushing in from outside, shouting, "Tao, hurry up and get ready! Important guests are arriving!"

Most people in the hall didn't know who this guy was or what he was talking about. However, Zhang Tao and his group in the center understood.

This guy was one of them, and they had just been wondering why he hadn't shown up yet.

Zhang Tao stood up, glanced over in Lan Wen's direction, and then said in a deep voice, "What's the rush? Speak slowly. What's going on? Who are these important guests?"

The young man, panting heavily, said, "Tao, they are important guests. They're on their way here now, saying they want to join our party."

"Oh? Tell me, who are they?" Zhang Tao asked calmly, though he was inwardly thrilled.

The more anxious this guy was, the more it highlighted Zhang Tao's composure.

Hearing about important guests and still being able to stay so cool, he figured Lan Wen's impression of him would improve significantly.

The young man said, "There's Young Master Qiang and his cousin, Young Master Wen, and also..." He hesitated here, looking nervous about saying the next name.

"Who else? Spit it out!" Zhang Tao's heart was already racing just from hearing the first two names.

Young Master Qiang was the son of the county magistrate, someone Zhang Tao usually had to flatter. His cousin was even more impressive, the son of a city-level official.

And from what the young man was implying, these two weren't even the main figures. Although Zhang Tao was still pretending to be calm, his voice betrayed his eagerness.

"It's... It's Young Master Zhang Yu from Wanghai, also known as Master Yu. He's said to be one of the Four Gentlemen of Wanghai," the young man blurted out in one breath, then wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Just meeting Master Yu had been incredibly intimidating, and even just mentioning his name made him extremely nervous.

"Ah!" Zhang Tao also let out an exclamation. Although their county wasn't part of Wanghai, it was close, and Wanghai was one of the most important cities in the country.

Important figures from there had even more influence on him than those from the provincial capital.

At that moment, Zhang Tao couldn't pretend anymore. He hurriedly got up and led the way outside to greet the guests.

Despite being the local big shot, his perspective was still limited.

To him and his peers, the rich kids from Wanghai were like ancient royalty, and being one of the Four Gentlemen made them even more untouchable.

Although the so-called Four Gentlemen no longer held the same status they once did, and two of them were even dead, they were still far above their social standing.

As Zhang Tao and his friends spoke, the hall was quiet, so everyone overheard their conversation. For ordinary people, the shock of the so-called Four Gentlemen of Wanghai was far less than it was for Zhang Tao and his group. The reason was simple: perspective.

To them, the Four Gentlemen were just like Zhang Tao and his friends—rich kids who relied on their families' power to get by. Of course, that view wasn't wrong.

Ye Fei, however, frowned slightly. The so-called Four Gentlemen of Wanghai were nothing more than minor figures to him, easily dismissed. They posed no threat to him.

But he couldn't forget that Zhang Yu had crossed paths with him before. If he were spotted and his identity revealed in public, it wouldn't be a problem for Ye Fei, but it would have a huge impact on Lan Wen.

At the very least, she wouldn't be able to continue working at the company in peace, and she would constantly be bothered by people trying to get close to her through him.

So, Ye Fei whispered to Lan Wen, "Jingwen, I need to use the restroom."

"Okay," Lan Wen nodded, but her brows furrowed again. She understood why Ye Fei wanted to avoid the situation and knew it was all for her sake.

However, the more considerate he was, the more upset she became. She had gotten herself into a rut, wanting the first boy she had ever liked to be more dominant.

Ye Fei sensed Lan Wen's unhappiness.

But his intuition also told him that a group of people had already reached the hotel entrance. He had to put aside his doubts for now and quickly made his way toward the restroom.
