Urban Powers After the Apocalypse

Chapter 31: Motorcycle Rescue

"I'm sorry, I didn't know it was like this..."

Although ever since he met Tang Guo, this little loli's words were always a mix of truth and lies, Xu Mo didn't think she was lying this time. The loneliness that leaked from her heart was something that couldn't be faked.

"It's nothing. It's been almost ten years. I've gotten used to it." Tang Guo squinted her eyes and smiled nonchalantly. She stood up, stretched, and took out her phone, seeming to want to make a call. Suddenly, she furrowed her brows and looked up apologetically, "My phone's out of battery. Uncle, can I borrow yours?"

Xu Mo froze for a second, then casually handed over his phone.

"Thank you, Uncle."

Tang Guo flashed him a sweet, almost sickening smile, took the phone, and quickly dialed a number. After a while, when no one picked up, she started typing a message instead.

"Did you not get through to your dad?" Xu Mo asked, concerned, as he took back the phone.

"Yeah, but that's normal. If I could get through to him, that'd be a miracle." Tang Guo shrugged nonchalantly, clearly not in a hurry. She took out a tissue to carefully wipe her lips and fingers, then suddenly stood up and gave Xu Mo a light bow. "Anyway, thank you so much for today, Uncle. And if you hadn't treated me to food, I probably would've starved to death on the street. How about this? Next time..."

"No, no need to be so polite..." Xu Mo hurriedly waved his hand, a little stunned by her sudden politeness.

"Next time... I'll still eat yours."

"..."

Xu Mo felt like he was going to snap. Spending time with this quirky little girl was slowly making his intelligence feel like it was heading for negative numbers. If he stayed any longer, he might devolve into a single-celled organism and get killed off by UV rays.

After paying for the meal, Xu Mo quickly led Tang Guo to the nearest bus stop. As the bus approached from across the street, Xu Mo finally breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, he could escape from this annoying little girl.

"Go straight home. Next time, remember to bring money. Don't just take stuff from supermarkets, okay?" He made sure to reinforce his lesson one last time.

"You're so annoying, Uncle. This is the second time!" Tang Guo complained, covering her ears with her fingers.

"Alright, I won't say anything more," Xu Mo smiled and patted her little head. "Be careful on the road."

"No need for your reminder, hmph!"

Tang Guo kicked the ground in frustration and ran toward the bus stop on the other side. But after only a few steps, she suddenly stopped, turned around, and flashed Xu Mo a radiant, sweet smile.

"Xu Mo-ge, you're a good person. I'll miss you."

Upon hearing those words, Xu Mo nearly shed a tear... Finally, the age difference was normal! But wait—should he be happy to receive a "good person" card from a little girl?

As he lowered his head and replayed the events that had just happened, Xu Mo couldn't help but smile. In just two short hours, his mind was filled with the image of this lively and playful little girl. Despite her quirky nature, there was something about Tang Guo that made it impossible to truly dislike her. In fact, from an outsider's perspective, she was even kind of cute. Perhaps this was her unique charm?

Just as Xu Mo was about to leave, he suddenly heard a faint but unmistakable roar of an engine from a distance. This was no ordinary car—it was the distinctive sound of a high-end sports car, one capable of speeds over 200 kilometers per hour!

After undergoing two rounds of mental enhancement, Xu Mo's senses had become extraordinarily sharp. Without even looking back, he immediately recognized that the car was speeding down the road behind him, heading from south to north at a speed of at least 120 kilometers per hour. It would pass him in less than five seconds.

"Shit! Tang Guo!"

Xu Mo turned around abruptly, and to his horror, saw Tang Guo walking right down the center of the road, her eyes focused on her phone, oblivious to the approaching danger!

"Tang Guo! Get out of the way!"

At Xu Mo's shout, Tang Guo noticed the blue Ferrari already coming into her view. But at this point, the car, showing no signs of slowing down, was less than 100 meters away from her. Tang Guo, just a little girl, had never experienced anything like this. She was frozen in fear, staring blankly at the approaching Ferrari, even forgetting to scream.

Damn it! Who's driving this road-killer?

At this speed and distance, even if the driver reacted immediately, they wouldn't be able to avoid hitting Tang Guo. Xu Mo didn't have time to think, his body instinctively moving at full speed toward her. Whether he knew her or not, he couldn't just stand there and watch a life disappear before his eyes!

His running speed reached its limit in an instant. If there were any professional equipment to measure it, it would show that Xu Mo was running a 10-second hundred meters, an almost impossible feat for an ordinary person. Despite being only a few meters away from Tang Guo, he was still far behind the Ferrari. In terms of pure speed, there was no way to outrun the car, especially one like this—an unbeatable speed demon.

Pedestrians and vehicles on the road had already noticed Xu Mo and Tang Guo, and they saw the blue Ferrari rushing toward them. It was clear to anyone that, at this point, Xu Mo wouldn't be able to save Tang Guo. If he didn't give up now, he would be hit too.

They say that in moments of extreme danger, time seems to slow down.

Xu Mo wasn't sure if he had entered that state, but everything around him suddenly seemed to move in slow motion. He could clearly see Tang Guo's face, pale with fear, just two meters away from him. Even the way her long, black ponytails fluttered in the wind was captured in every detail.

The blue Ferrari, about ten meters away, seemed to freeze in mid-air. Through the slightly reflective windshield, Xu Mo could vaguely make out the face of a young man behind the wheel, his eyes hazy from drunkenness.

Everything in the space around him seemed to slow down but move in an orderly fashion, including Xu Mo's body. Despite his mind urging him to run faster, his speed had already reached its maximum, and he couldn't push it any further.

Damn it! Was he really unable to save Tang Guo?

"Xu Mo-ge, you're a good person. I'll miss you."

The image of Tang Guo's last words lingered in Xu Mo's mind. This girl, with such a tragic life, had only spent two hours with him, yet now she was about to vanish forever, just like Ning Ning had before... Hadn't he gained the power to change the fate of those around him?

No! He couldn't let anyone else die in front of him!

Xu Mo's eyes turned bloodshot, his entire body becoming like a wild beast in a fury. His legs moved faster than ever before, and the orange shards inside him, which were linked to his muscle-enhancing abilities, suddenly flared up. A warm flow that had been quietly circulating inside him like a gentle stream surged suddenly, as if it had been hit by a Category 10 hurricane. It rushed down his body, and with his final push off the ground, a visible shockwave rippled through the air, propelling him into the air!

Whoosh! Screech~

Xu Mo grabbed the stunned Tang Guo and quickly rolled forward, using his momentum to get out of the way. At almost the same moment, the blue Ferrari zoomed past them, and Xu Mo's already tattered jacket was torn open by the wind, leaving a gash that was several inches long.
