Lin Xian glanced at his watch. It was indeed time to head to work. He grabbed a cab and made his way to the company.
As the elevator reached the 22nd floor, Lin Xian could hear the lively commotion even before stepping into the office.
Inside, Vice President Mr. Zhang’s loud voice echoed clearly:
“We were amazing! Following Lin Xian, we went full hero mode and saved the damsel in distress! That punk didn’t stand a chance against us!”
“He had a knife, so what? You think my martial arts are for show? I disarmed him with one move!”
“Mr. Zhang, stop exaggerating. You were the first to back off when he pulled the knife. It was the bar’s security guards who took him down with their batons.”
“Wha—wha—what exaggeration? Hey, Xiao Li, do you still want your bonus this quarter? I might not have fought directly, but my moral support counts as bravery!”
“Didn’t expect it—like attracts like. Mr. Zhang is starting to be a hero like Lin Xian!”
“Mr. Zhang, please get off my desk… You’re stepping on my keyboard!”
Lin Xian pushed open the glass door to find Vice President Mr. Zhang standing on a desk, boasting wildly.
“Ah, Lin Xian! You’re here! Hehehe, you have no idea who you saved last night! I’m telling you, you’ve hit the jackpot!”
“Alright, alright, everyone to the conference room for a meeting!”
Mr. Zhang wrapped an arm around Lin Xian’s shoulder as they walked. With a mischievous grin, he whispered, “So, kid, where’d you take that beauty last night?”
“I took her home.”
“Yeah, right! Like you’re that noble. Do you even know who you saved? She’s a big shot’s daughter!”
“I kind of figured.”
“Heh, so you planned this all along!”
“Bullsh—! I was just doing the right thing!”
Lin Xian shoved Mr. Zhang aside, avoiding further banter, and went to put his things on his desk.
On the way, bits of his memory had already started merging, and the sequence of events became clearer.
Last night had gone according to plan initially. Lin Xian hadn’t interacted with Dai Chuchan until the moment her classmates tried to force her into the car. That’s when Lin Xian, backed by Mr. Zhang and the others, intervened.
Before anyone could say much, the panicked punk pulled a knife.
Mr. Zhang and the others called security while shielding Lin Xian and Dai Chuchan, allowing them to escape.
Lin Xian had explained to them that Dai Chuchan was his junior and couldn’t just be left in danger. Without hesitation, they had joined him.
Though parts of his memory were still missing, the overall sequence was clear enough.
In the conference room, all twenty-something employees were already seated. Mr. Zhang, presiding over the meeting, had an air of authority despite being the vice president.
After clearing his throat, Mr. Zhang began:
“Today’s sudden meeting is to announce some great news!”
He glanced around the room dramatically before continuing.
“Last night, Lin Xian, Xiao Li, Xiao Wang, and I bravely intervened at MT Bar’s entrance, saving a young woman.”
“You won’t believe it! That young woman’s father is none other than Dai Shuangcheng, the president of the East Sea Chamber of Commerce!”
Mr. Zhang paused, giving everyone 30 seconds to absorb the news and chatter amongst themselves.
The name “Dai Shuangcheng” was well-known throughout East Sea City. His family was the city’s most influential, commanding both power and wealth. To have saved his daughter was undoubtedly a monumental favor.
Eyes full of anticipation turned to Mr. Zhang, who raised his arms triumphantly and declared:
“As a token of gratitude, President Dai has decided to fully invest five million yuan into our company!”
“Not only that, but all design projects from his group will now be assigned to us!”
“And starting today, everyone gets a 50% salary increase!”
Cheers erupted across the room!
The investment itself might not mean much to most employees, but the 50% salary raise? That was life-changing.
For the young professionals in the room, it was like a dream come true.
Some rushed forward to lift Mr. Zhang into the air in celebration.
Lin Xian smiled faintly, finally understanding why Mr. Zhang was in such a good mood. This was a golden ticket to wealth and stability for the company.
Dai Shuangcheng’s 5 million investment was practically a gift. He likely wouldn’t micromanage this small company, leaving them to operate freely. Furthermore, with the massive scope of his group’s design contracts, the company’s revenue was set to multiply tenfold.
What surprised Lin Xian more was Mr. Zhang’s generosity. Most bosses wouldn’t immediately share profits, let alone raise everyone’s pay by 50%.
Once the jubilant crowd settled, Mr. Zhang adjusted his suit and continued:
“To handle Dai Group’s projects, I’ve decided to create a dedicated ten-person team.”
“Lin Xian will be the team leader, and he’ll handpick its members. The team will have full autonomy, and Lin Xian’s performance will be assessed under the same annual salary structure as mine!”
Applause thundered through the room again.
Everyone wholeheartedly approved this decision. Lin Xian’s talent had always been evident, and they knew their raises and the company’s success were all thanks to him.
Excitement filled the air.

Amid the crowd’s congratulations, Lin Xian wore a polite smile but couldn’t shake the frustration inside.
