Until the End of Time: The Demon God’s Redemption

Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Blood That Remembers

The scent of old blood thickened in the air, laced with incense and something older—deeper. Below the surface of the Blood Lotus Sect's temple grounds, the stone vibrated with a sound too low for human ears.

Lu Xuan stood at the threshold of the inner sanctum.

His steps echoed down the corridor carved from bones and obsidian, each footfall resonating with a pulse—like a heartbeat buried beneath centuries.

Behind him, Su Xue followed reluctantly, her breath quiet but sharp. Her cultivation had surged recently—Nascent Soul stage—but the chains of time that sealed her true potential still clung to her spirit like frost. Lu Xuan didn't acknowledge her presence. He hadn't spoken to her since the last battle.

Their hatred now had teeth.

And it grew sharper the closer they got to the truth.

Beneath the Temple

The doors of the inner temple groaned open. Lu Xuan stepped into a chamber pulsing with red light. The walls were alive with blood-veined carvings, moving slowly like sinew under skin. In the center of the room rested a half-buried throne, black as void, its arms chained in blood-forged links.

As his eyes fell on it, something inside him shuddered.

The throne whispered.

"Welcome back… Lord of Devourers."

His knees buckled. His core screamed. The Devouring Skill flared like an inferno.

Images slammed into his mind:

Flames rising from heaven. A sea of crimson skies. A figure—himself—enthroned above a battlefield of gods and beasts. Not Lu Xuan, not quite. He wore no name, only a crown of shadow and flame.

The Demon God.

And then—

He remembered.

"I… was him."

His voice was hoarse. Hands trembling, he reached out toward the throne—

—but Su Xue's blade shot past his shoulder, embedding in the wall.

"Don't." Her voice cracked like ice. "You said you wanted to break free. But that thing… that throne… it isn't freedom. It's a leash."

Lu Xuan turned toward her. "It's mine."

"That's the voice of the thing inside you," she said, stepping forward, unsheathing her second blade. "Not you. Not anymore."

She didn't flinch when he met her gaze. "You're slipping, Lu Xuan. You've been slipping for chapters."

A cruel smirk tugged at his lips. "Maybe that's because you keep dragging me backward. Back to a life that no longer fits."

"You're wrong," she whispered. "You're still fighting it. That means there's still time."

He didn't answer.

Because he wasn't sure she was right anymore.

The Awakening

A rumble shook the floor. The walls screamed in a voice only the old gods would understand.

And then, the blood pool beneath the throne began to bubble.

From its depths, a colossal shadow began to rise—scaled, fanged, and ancient. Twisted by blood rituals long forgotten, the creature let out a soundless roar that shook the foundation of the entire sect.

The Bloodspawn Beast had awakened

Its form was serpentine, but with wings like blades of bone and a maw filled with ever-regenerating teeth. Its body bore the ancient marks of the Demon God's bloodline—the same that now flowed through Lu Xuan.

It locked eyes with him.

And bowed.

Su Xue gasped.

"She recognizes you," she whispered.

"No," Lu Xuan said slowly, dark energy bleeding from his hands. "She remembers me."

The beast lowered its massive head, and the bloody chains around the throne snapped like dry twigs. Energy burst from the pool like a tidal wave. Lu Xuan stumbled back, eyes wide.

Flashes of a battlefield returned. The Bloodspawn, loyal to him. The sects falling before him. Su Xue—standing atop a cliff with a golden spear aimed at his heart.

"Did you… did you kill me?" he asked, voice trembling.

She didn't answer.

The Breaking Point

The Bloodspawn's aura surged outward, drowning the chamber in demonic pressure. Su Xue dropped to one knee, her spirit shuddering under the weight.

Lu Xuan didn't bow.

The Bloodspawn coiled around the throne, awaiting a command. And for the first time, Lu Xuan gave it.

"Kill anything that touches this chamber," he said softly. "Until I return."

The beast growled in approval.

He turned to Su Xue, eyes glowing crimson. "You said I was slipping. You were right."

"Lu Xuan—"

"I'm not Lu Xuan anymore. Not entirely."

"Then what are you?" Her voice cracked.

"I'm what the heavens tried to erase. I'm what you tried to kill. I'm what this world fears."

His smile was no longer human. "I am the Demon God reborn."

She raised her sword again.

He walked past her. "Next time you point that at me, you better mean it."

Her fingers clenched.

"I did," she whispered. "Back then, I did."

Epilogue: A New Enemy Rises

Far across the sect's domain, in a sanctum built of silence and void, a figure knelt before a shadow-cloaked being.

"The Bloodspawn has awakened," the kneeling figure said.

"And the Devourer?"

"His memories are returning."

The shadow nodded. "Then the war must begin again."

The figure lifted her head. Crimson lips curved into a cruel smile.

The Crimson Demoness.

"Let the heavens tremble," she said. "My lord has returned."
