Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The Five Elemental Divine Beasts
After a month of seclusion, winter had arrived. The season of bitter cold had sealed the mountains under a thick blanket of snow. Goose-feather snowflakes drifted down from the heavens, covering the peaks of Yuhua Sect in a pure, untouched white robe. Gazing upon the landscape, the world was an expanse of pristine white, dazzling in its beauty.
Yuhua Sect, Sutra Pavilion.
Although Lin Jiufeng had advanced to the Third Prohibition and gained the power of a dragon and an elephant, making him immune to the cold, he still set up a brazier. The warmth of the fire drove away the chill in the Sutra Pavilion. Instead of cultivating, he brewed a pot of tea, quietly sipping it as he admired the snowfall.
Cultivation was not something that could be rushed—it required patience, perseverance, and accumulation. Having spent an entire month in seclusion, today he decided to grant himself a moment of relaxation, balancing work and rest. Watching the drifting snow, Lin Jiufeng stood in the corridor, clad in a white Daoist robe, tea cup in hand, lost in the serenity of the moment.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps approached from behind, accompanied by a crisp voice.
"Senior Brother, you seem to be in a poetic mood."
Without turning his head, Lin Jiufeng replied, "Instead of focusing on cultivating the Ascension Sutra, what brings you here?"
Standing beside him, Bai Yunfei said, "I will soon enter seclusion to cultivate the Ascension Sutra, so there are some matters I wish to entrust to you."
Lin Jiufeng poured a cup of tea for Bai Yunfei and asked curiously, "What is it?"
"I would like to ask Senior Brother to teach these three disciples the Ascension Sutra in my stead."
Bai Yunfei raised a hand, and three children—a boy and a girl—entered the Sutra Pavilion. Their faces were youthful, their statures small, barely over ten years old, as they looked at Lin Jiufeng with timid expressions.
"Greet your Martial Uncle," Bai Yunfei commanded solemnly.
"Greetings, Martial Uncle," the three children said in unison, bowing respectfully.
Lin Jiufeng nodded, then looked at Bai Yunfei in confusion.
Bai Yunfei explained, "These three children are orphans whom I took in as disciples. They have great potential and are worth nurturing. However, I will be entering death seclusion to break through to the Eighth Prohibition, so I wish for Senior Brother to guide them in their cultivation."
Lin Jiufeng did not immediately agree but instead asked, "If you enter death seclusion, what will happen to Yuhua Sect?"
"We will close the mountain gates and sever all contact with the outside world," Bai Yunfei replied.
"Will the other disciples accept this?" Lin Jiufeng questioned.
Bai Yunfei let out a bitter laugh. "What other disciples? Everyone in Yuhua Sect is standing right here."
Lin Jiufeng glanced at the three young children, then at Bai Yunfei, and finally at himself. So, the once-thriving Yuhua Sect had been reduced to just the five of them.
"Over the past month, Taishang Dao has made another move, luring away the remaining disciples and cutting off all our exits. Yuhua Sect has been turned into an isolated island—no one dares to approach, and no one dares to communicate with us." Bai Yunfei's expression darkened.
"They've gone this far?" Lin Jiufeng frowned.
"If I hadn't revealed my cultivation at the Seventh Prohibition, they would have already taken over Yuhua Sect." Bai Yunfei sighed.
"They're trying to seal us off completely?" Lin Jiufeng clenched his fists, suppressing his anger. Taishang Dao was going too far.
"That is why I must enter death seclusion. Once I break through to the Eighth Prohibition, with the Ascension Sutra in hand, it will be time for Taishang Dao to pay the price." Bai Yunfei's eyes burned with determination.
"Until then, I leave these three children in your care. Teach them well. There are still some resources left in Yuhua Sect—enough to sustain them for several years."
Lin Jiufeng looked at the three young children and nodded. "Very well. I will look after them. Focus on your breakthrough."
Bai Yunfei looked at Lin Jiufeng, whose appearance had returned to his youthful prime, and sighed emotionally, "When I first joined Yuhua Sect, Senior Brother was already like this—elegant and peerless. Now, after your enlightenment, you have finally regained your former brilliance."
Turning to the three children, Bai Yunfei instructed firmly, "Remember to listen to your Martial Uncle and cultivate diligently, understood?"
"Yes, Master!" The three children responded obediently.
Bai Yunfei, now reassured, bowed deeply to Lin Jiufeng. "I leave them in your hands."
Lin Jiufeng nodded. "Go into seclusion. I will teach them well."
Without further hesitation, Bai Yunfei turned and left.
Now, only Lin Jiufeng and the three children remained in the Sutra Pavilion. They stood before him, watching him with cautious eyes.
"What are your names?" Lin Jiufeng asked gently.
"Wen Xinyun," the only girl was the first to respond.
"Zhou Tianzi," said the smaller, thinner boy.
"Yue Dashan," replied the chubby boy, who indeed resembled a small mountain.
Lin Jiufeng smiled and said, "I am Lin Jiufeng. From now on, you will train under my guidance here in the Sutra Pavilion while your master is in seclusion."
"We will follow your teachings, Martial Uncle!" Yue Dashan grinned, scratching his head.
"Then let us begin with the fundamentals of energy cultivation."
Lin Jiufeng took his role seriously and personally guided them in the Ascension Sutra.
The three children displayed extraordinary talent. They grasped concepts quickly and, with Lin Jiufeng's guidance, were able to draw in Qi on their first attempt. Compared to Lin Jiufeng before his awakening, their potential was far superior. No wonder Bai Yunfei saw them as the hope for Yuhua Sect's revival.
…
Days passed.
With Yuhua Sect now deserted and sealed off, the surrounding mountains remained silent.
Lin Jiufeng found solace in the peace. Every morning, he taught the three children the Ascension Sutra, then left them to cultivate on their own while he studied, meditated, and refined his internal organs.
The three children were independent. When hungry, they found food themselves. After eating, they trained diligently.
Through their conversations, Lin Jiufeng learned of their tragic past—becoming orphans at a young age, wandering in hardship, barely surviving. Their fate changed when Bai Yunfei took them in. Because of their suffering, they cherished their new life and never slacked in their training. Lin Jiufeng was very pleased.
Watching the three of them cultivate earnestly, he smiled. "I must not fall behind them. I must advance as well."
His next step was the Fourth Prohibition—tempering the five internal organs.
The first three prohibitions focused on strengthening the body, but while the flesh grew strong, the internal organs remained fragile. The Fourth Prohibition involved linking the five organs—heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys—into a harmonious cycle.
Each organ corresponded to an element:
Heart (Fire): Vermilion Bird
Liver (Wood): Azure Dragon
Spleen (Earth): Qilin
Lungs (Metal): White Tiger
Kidneys (Water): Black Tortoise
By engraving these five divine beasts as totems within his organs, their combined power would far surpass ordinary cultivators at the same level.
Lin Jiufeng's eyes sparkled with anticipation. "With these five divine beasts within me, how great will my strength become?"
