Chapter 39: Chapter 39
As Yin Xiaoya inserted the Skull Memory into the Lostdriver at his waist, concentric circles of energy rippled across the belt's surface. Activating the Skull Memory, he not only conjured a skull cursor in front of the device but also summoned a swarm of enigmatic fragments that danced around his body. These fragments coalesced, forming the jagged "S" crack that bisected the skull's forehead—a visual manifestation of the Memory's unique power.
In the darkened forest, a skeletal figure materialized, its black body and silver head eerily illuminated by the moonlight. Slowly, it raised its head, and its dark, empty eyes blazed with a piercing, dark purple light, like a messenger from the underworld, staring at Jess with chilling indifference.
Kamen Rider Skull had arrived, his transformation fueled by the Lostdriver and Skull Memory—two items claimed during Yin Xiaoya's previous three consecutive draws from the System. Though Kamen Rider Skull's punching power clocked in at a mere 2 tons and his kicking strength at 6.5 tons—significantly lower than Meteor's—the System had informed Yin Xiaoya that Skull possessed a unique attribute: the power of punishment. This meant that against the wicked, Skull's base stats would double, further amplified by the wielder's idealism.
Thus, Yin Xiaoya, consumed by righteous fury and intent on punishing Jess, had become Kamen Rider Skull, boasting a punching power of 4 tons and a kicking strength of 13 tons. And with each surge of anger, these numbers continued to climb.
If Jess failed to realize that his impending doom had arrived, he would be a fool. With a monstrous entity lurking behind him, responsible for the massacre of his team, he knew that a swift decision was crucial.
He launched the first attack, unleashing a barrage of chains. But to his astonishment, the figure remained rooted to the spot, chains whipping against it, yet appearing utterly unfazed, as if the attacks were mere breezes.
"So weak," Kamen Rider Skull intoned, his voice a low, gravelly rasp.
Jess's pupils constricted. He recoiled the chain, his voice laced with venom: "What did you say?!"
"I said you are weak. As expected, steeped in evil power, you're nothing but frail."
"Bastard! Then I'll simply absorb your strength!" Jess roared, his body erupting in a cloud of red and black mist, which swiftly enveloped his Martial Soul chains. Under his control, the chains snaked around Yin Xiaoya, who remained motionless, binding him tightly.
"Hahahaha! There's no escape! I'm a little depleted, so I'll just replenish myself with you. Prepare to become my nourishment, obediently!"
The crimson mist was the essence of his evil ability: the power to drain the cultivation of other Soul Masters. Once ensnared, victims would be drained of their life force and cultivation, leaving them hollow shells. This technique, combined with his chain Martial Soul, had already claimed the vitality and strength of at least ten victims. But this time, he had met his match.
"No... Impossible! Why is there no soul power to drain?"
The triumphant grin on Jess's face froze, replaced by disbelief. He stared at the skeletal figure, finally comprehending the truth. "You... you're not a Soul Master?"
Kamen Rider Skull, his dark purple eyes burning into Jess, offered no reply.
A breeze swept through the forest, tugging at the gray-white wind scarf that adorned the Skull's neck. In that instant, Jess, intrinsically linked to his chains, felt a terrifying force surge through them. The realization struck him like a physical blow—he had to sever the connection. But it was too late.
A cacophony of grinding sounds erupted as the chains binding Yin Xiaoya were torn asunder. Jess screamed in agony, his Martial Soul taking grievous damage.
"I have never found the screams of sin so beautiful," Kamen Rider Skull declared, his voice laced with dark satisfaction.
He gracefully placed his hat upon the cold skull, and in the next moment, he launched himself towards Jess.
Tuo!
A fist slammed into Jess's chest, sending him hurtling through the air like a discarded puppet. He slammed into three trees in succession, each impact stealing the air from his lungs, before finally collapsing, blood gushing from his mouth. One punch had shattered every rib in his chest.
He gasped in agony, his chest a symphony of pain. The skeletal figure advanced, each step a thunderclap in the stillness. Jess, rendered speechless by terror, watched the inevitable approach. Summoning the last vestiges of his strength, he reignited his chain Martial Soul, igniting the second and third Spirit Rings simultaneously. The chains twisted, forming an impenetrable cage around him.
Clutching at a sliver of hope, Jess tore a pendant from his neck, activating its mechanism. The pendant glowed with a verdant light, bathing his body in restorative energy. His Soul Power surged, and even the gaping depression in his chest began to mend with alarming speed.
"As long as the attack doesn't exceed 5 tons, my chain cage offers absolute defense for two minutes," Jess muttered, his voice trembling but laced with renewed confidence. "Fortunately, I have a healing Soul Guide, allowing me to recover rapidly. Hmph, waste your energy outside. After I regain my strength..."
BOOM!
The sudden roar silenced his monologue. The entire chain cage shuddered violently, jolting him with icy fear. But the initial terror subsided as he registered the force of the impact.
"Underestimate him, he actually has four tons of strength. But my chain cage can withstand fifteen tons. Not enough..."
BOOM!!
Another deafening impact, this time shaking the cage even more violently. Jess's eyes widened in sheer terror.
"Five... Five tons! Is he growing stronger?"
BOOM!!!
As if in answer to his question, the next attack hit with even greater force. Jess was teetering on the edge of hysteria.
"Eight tons! How is this possible? Recover... Hurry up and recover!"
Boom! Boom!! Boom!!!
The relentless assault continued, growing ever more brutal. Nine tons, ten tons, eleven tons. Yin Xiaoya's blows rained down, each one pushing the chain cage closer to its breaking point, until the force finally plateaued at thirteen tons.
Just as Jess began to believe he had reached his opponent's limit, a monstrous roar ripped through the forest.
ROAR!!!
The roar resonated with such force that the chain cage buckled under nearly sixteen tons of pressure. With a final, agonizing groan, the cage shattered.
Fortuitously, Jess had managed to restore himself to full power through the Soul Guide mere seconds before the collapse. But the sight of Yin Xiaoya triggered a primal fear, obliterating any thought of resistance. He screamed, fleeing in the opposite direction like a scalded cat.
Even as he sprinted away, he caught a glimpse of Yin Xiaoya. He saw a colossal skull, forged from swirling purple energy, erupt from the figure's chest. The roar he had heard had emanated from that spectral skull. What choice did he have but to run faster?
Yin Xiaoya watched Jess's retreating form, then calmly retrieved the Skull Memory from the Lostdriver, inserting it into a slot on the right side of his waist and pressing down firmly.
[SKULL! MAXIMUM DRIVE!]
The skull on his chest blazed with incandescent purple light, then detached, soaring into the night.
"Your crimes are beyond measure. Repay them with your life."
Yin Xiaoya leaped after the skull. Reaching an altitude of thirty meters, he locked his gaze on Jess, and with a swift, precise kick, propelled the skull forward.
Tuo!
Roar!!
The skull, jaws agape, emitted a horrifying roar and lunged at Jess with blinding speed.
"Ah! Stay away! Uhhhhh!!!"
BOOM!!!
Jess's screams were swallowed by the cataclysmic explosion, which bathed the area in a wave of purple energy. Even the Soul Beasts, initially drawn by the commotion, recoiled in terror.
Ordinarily, such an attack would have obliterated its target. But the evil Soul Master, having absorbed the life force of countless victims, possessed a resilience that defied belief. Though his body was a mangled ruin, Jess clung to life, his mind trapped in a vortex of excruciating pain.
Thump!
A pair of insectoid legs landed heavily beside him. He craned his neck, his vision blurred with pain, and saw the Mantis. On the other side, Yin Xiaoya approached, his gait steady and implacable.
Driven by desperation and a primal instinct to survive, Jess, in his delirium, pleaded for mercy. "He... Help me..."
Yin Xiaoya stared down at him, his eyes no longer glowing with dark purple light but empty blackness, radiating an inhuman coldness. He adjusted his hat, his voice devoid of emotion.
"Impossible."
He turned his back on Jess, his steps crisp and decisive. The screams that followed, drowned out by the Mantis's guttural sounds, held no interest for him.
Mantis stood before him, kneeling in deference.
"My lord, the evil humans in this forest are no more. The one before was the last."
"Very well. Thank you, Mantis." He paused, glancing at something behind her. "And they are..."
Yin Xiaoya noticed a young man and woman staring at them with wide-eyed terror.
Realizing that his appearance might be unsettling, Yin Xiaoya turned to Mantis, who nodded in understanding.
"The task is complete. Disperse."
Without hesitation, the Mantis's form dissolved into a cascade of silver Cell Medals, which flowed into her core. Then, she shattered into medals again, pouring into the Green Mantis Core Medal, then it quietly floated into Yin Xiaoya's palm.
Pocketing the Core Medal, Yin Xiaoya approached the two survivors, releasing his transformation under their astonished gaze.
"Don't be afraid. I'm human. I asked her to save you."
Seeing the fearsome skeletal knight transform into a human being, the two finally relaxed. The tension of the past days released, and exhaustion washed over them, causing them to collapse.
"You came to save us?" the girl asked, her voice trembling.
Yin Xiaoya shook his head. "I came to eliminate evil Soul Masters. Saving you was simply a fortunate side effect."
He saw the grief etched on their faces and understood. "I didn't know these bastards had committed so many crimes. I'm sorry."
The boy shook his head, his voice thick with gratitude. "It's not your fault. You rescued us and avenged our comrades. You are our benefactor. Please, tell us your name so our Sword God Academy can thank you."
Sword God Academy? It seemed like an unknown one. He didn't need their gratitude, but spreading the name of Kamen Rider was another matter.
"My name is Yin Xiaoya. I'm a Kamen Rider. I don't belong to any sect. For now, I'm staying at Shrek Academy... as a guest."
Hearing "Shrek Academy," the boy's expression shifted to respect. "To be a guest of Shrek Academy... you must be extraordinary. I'm Liu Zhu, and this is my junior sister, Jiang Yan. We'll tell the dean when we return and will visit our benefactor. Our academy is open to you at any time."
Yin Xiaoya chuckled, not pointing out their attempts to recruit him. "Okay, let's talk about that later. I'll get you out of here."
"Since the demons are gone, we want to collect our teachers' and classmates' bodies," Jiang Yan said.
"But wouldn't it be dangerous for just the two of you to encounter a Soul Beast?"
Liu Zhu shook his head. "That demon had a storage Soul Tool he stole from us, containing items to contact our academy. As long as we activate it, people will come soon. And after collecting our comrades' bodies, we'll retreat to the edge of the forest. Without evil Soul Masters suppressing normal Soul Masters, my sister and I can handle it."
Seeing their resolve, Yin Xiaoya relented, leaving behind two healing potions he had brought from Shrek.
"Thank you, benefactor."
Yin Xiaoya nodded. "Be careful. See you."
He turned and walked away.
Watching him go, Jiang Yan asked, "Brother, have you heard of Kamen Rider?"
Liu Zhu located the Soul Tool from Jess's body. After hearing Jiang Yan's question, he shook his head, "I haven't, but his power is mysterious and he seems indifferent to fame. He must have a purpose for revealing his title. We can talk about it later, after our academy arrives. I believe the dean will know."
