Chapter 758: Important Guests
The diners in the restaurant watched as Ma Lu murmured to a pigeon all by himself, and they couldn't help but worry about Boss Ma's mental state, while some curious ones even sneakily recorded the scene with their phones.
However, at this moment, Ma Lu could no longer care about such things.
This pigeon usually only buys a small portion of fries and tries to scrounge a mini butter roll, but now it suddenly agrees to order a deluxe dish priced at 599,998 Star Currency per serving. Even with the Earth Autonomy Management Committee footing the bill, Ma Lu couldn't guess who the special guest worthy of such an extravagant expense could be.
But then he remembered that he had informed this very White Dove of the impending Universal doomsday a few days ago. Could it be that tonight's banquet hosted by the Earth Autonomy Management Committee for esteemed guests is related to it?
Thinking this, a glimmer of hope arose in Ma Lu. Perhaps the mysterious and low-profile Earth Autonomy Management Committee and its even more enigmatic leader actually had some way to save this Multiverse-spanning crisis.
With this in mind, Ma Lu immediately went to the kitchen to find Old Wang, and together they meticulously selected twelve (most expensive) dishes to welcome tonight's guests.
He just hoped that more people would come tonight, preferably enough to finish off all the Revenge canned carp meat. That way, he could save up half a set of energy cores in one go, thanks to the Earth Autonomy Management Committee's double subsidy.
Time quickly moved on to the evening.
Ma Lu had sent He Xiaoqian and another female student who came to help back home early. He also canceled tonight's takeaway orders and hung the Closed sign outside the door early in the morning.
At 5:57 PM, a white GL8 stopped in front of Universe Infinite Canteen.
As the rear door of the car opened, a woman in a suit with sunglasses and a middle-aged man in a tweed cardigan with gold-rimmed glasses and a refined appearance stepped out.
The suited woman pulled open the restaurant's entrance door, and Ma Lu guessed the man with the gold glasses following might be the senior manager of the Earth Autonomy Management Committee.
But before he could say anything, the man stood aside, and one after another, a Black Mountain Goat, a Lu Hua Chicken, a kangaroo, and a Red Panda descended from the GL8.
The man and woman stood guard at the entrance of the restaurant warily surveying the surroundings.
The four animals walked into the restaurant.
Gauging the situation, Ma Lu figured this time he must be right and quickly stepped forward to greet them.
"Welcome to the Universe Infinite Canteen."
"Are you the owner of this place?" The Black Mountain Goat looked Ma Lu up and down with its rectangular pupils.
"Yes, I am Ma..." Ma Lu was about to introduce himself but was rudely cut off by the Black Mountain Goat.
"You're just a lucky Earthling, I'm not interested in your name. Just lead us to our seats, we have very important matters to discuss tonight."
Ma Lu was taken aback by the remark, but then the Lu Hua Chicken spoke up, "Lao Si, where are your manners? I've told you many times - you should be more courteous to the natives of this planet. If they hadn't taken us in, we'd still be wandering in some corner of the Multiverse."
"Hmph," grunted the Black Mountain Goat, "Even if they didn't want to take us in, with our strength we could have stayed here by force regardless. The ones who should be grateful are these natives. Without us and our organization silently protecting them, other unruly outsiders would have flattened this place long ago."
"I think this is a mutually beneficial arrangement for both parties," the kangaroo also said, "There's no debt of gratitude owed. Like crocodiles and plovers, we look out for each other; we're like family."
"Just say whatever you want," Black Mountain Goat said impatiently, "In the end, those Earthlings are of no help again, and we still have to rely on ourselves to solve the problem."
"Who says they're not helping? Boss Ma is helping right now, isn't he?"
"Thank you, Mister Red Panda," Ma Lu expressed his gratitude.
"Actually... my appearance is closer to a wombat." The creature that looked like a Red Panda corrected from the back of the group.
"Wombat is a marsupial of the family Vombatidae native to Tasmania Island, the locals also call them Tasmanian Devils, but in fact, both Red Pandas and wombats have nothing to do with me.
"The animal forms are just for convenience when we City Managers go out and about, just like the Pigeon you encountered before."
"Oh... Alright then."
Ma Lu led the four to a dining table; he had already replaced the tables and chairs in the store with a large round table using the decorating function provided by a gold-badge game producer.
Ma Lu noticed that the order of the four little animals was the exact opposite of the order they entered the restaurant, with the one referred to by others as Lao Si, the Black Sheep, seated at the lowest position, followed by Lu Hua Chicken, a kangaroo, and finally the Red Panda. No, it should be the wombat.
But the wombat didn't take the seat of honor at the head of the table, leaving it empty.
After waiting for about another 15 minutes, just as Black Mountain Goat was getting more and more impatient, Ma Lu's eyes were flashed by something.
At first, he thought it was just his imagination until it happened again, and he instinctively looked outside the window, only to see a basin-shaped object flying towards them from far in the sky.
It was alternating flashes of red, blue, and green lights, surrounded by a dazzling halo, just like the UFOs often depicted in science fiction movies.
This unidentified flying object finally stopped right above the street in front of the store, buzzing loudly.
It drew the residents from the nearby neighborhood to stick their heads out to watch, Ma Lu even saw Boss Wang from Love Home Grocery holding a bag of expired seeds, cracking them while watching, and excitedly dialing his wife on his phone.
Looking back at the group of four animals in the store, each of them pale as iron.
Especially after that UFO emitted a huge beam of light, and a group of oddly dressed people swaggered out from the beam of light, the four little animals were shaking with even more anger.
"Damn it, are these people completely brainless, to appear so blatantly in front of ordinary people! And they made such a big scene, now half the city has seen them! Are they really so fucking stupid!"
Black Mountain Goat lost his temper, spouting profanities.
The other three animals, for the first time, didn't stop him. Instead, a young man who had just walked in with eyes on the back of his hand showed a displeased look upon hearing this.
"Who are you cursing at? Do you know who we are? What a lack of manners to shout like this!"
Black Mountain Goat wanted to say more but was stopped by the wombat waving its hand, who said sternly, "You guys are too conspicuous."
"Don't worry, our ship is equipped with a large memory eraser. Later, we'll just erase the memories of all these natives. The large memory eraser can wipe the memory of all living creatures within a hundred miles at once." The young man said arrogantly.
"But someone has already posted the video online." Ma Lu took out his phone and showed it as a reminder.
