Chapter 9: New missions!
Luke looked at the dagger in his hand, which was emitting a faint violet light that was visible only to him.
*Common Dagger:
Quality: Ordinary
Sturdiness: 10/10
Skill: Wind Blade(Enchantment)*
"Excellent! Although it is a simple enchantment, it will add a bit of attack power to these daggers. It is the best I can do considering the base quality of the dagger and the fact that I have no enchantment materials. As soon as I have some money I will improve my equipment."
He had enchanted his weapons, causing them to gain an increase in their attack power through the use of the elemental energy of wind, which was the easiest to use for simple enchantments.
He had also enchanted his armor, and although it did not provide defense, it slightly increased his movement speed.
"Well, now where should I go?"
He unfolded a scroll of papyrus that contained a map of the area he was in. He had bought it in the morning before leaving the city. As for the money he used to buy it, it had been kindly lent to him by Elian.
He looked at the map carefully, trying to familiarize himself with the surrounding terrain. He then opened the system map, which was much more incomplete, as it only showed places he had visited before. He compared both maps and saw that, at least in the parts that currently overlapped, there was not a huge difference between the two maps. That comforted him. The system map obviously had no errors, so the map he had bought at a high price this morning was at least reliable enough to move around without worry.
He looked at the map carefully for a few minutes, planning the route to follow; his plan was to be out of the city for a couple of days. After all, he did not know how long it would take him to complete the mission.
That's right, Luke had finally received a new mission from the system.
*Mission 05 - No more cramps!:
How can you live a full life without mobility? Winning over the woman of your dreams is an uphill battle without your own carriage? It's time to step up and fix it!
Objective: Find a mount worthy of you.
Rewards: Taming method, breeding method, cultivation method for the mount, binding technique (contract).
(The rarer or more powerful the creature used as a mount, the better the quality of the reward) *
"This mission brings back memories. In my past life I also had a similar mission, I wonder how my old companion is doing. Considering the information I was able to obtain from the church, this year is the same year I started my previous reincarnation, is it a coincidence?"
Luke sank into complex and unnecessary thoughts, it was a habit he had always carried. After a few moments, he sighed, looked up at the beautiful summer sky, and put aside his guesses, which were of no use at the moment anyway.
"As soon as I can, I will go see the people from my previous life. Although I am very far away right now, once my cultivation advances a little more, traveling long distances will not be a problem. There are so many people I want to see again. Above all, I want to avoid Tamara's death."
Luke paused, and everything around him seemed to become silent, the atmosphere becoming somewhat gloomy.
"And I also want to see my wife again. I need to have answers."
He sighed again. He closed the map and put it in his backpack. Then he stood up from the tree trunk where he was sitting, brushed the dust off his clothes and stretched, stretching.
"Alright, I have a more or less defined route now, it's time to start looking for that mount! I'm going to do some hunting while I'm at it, and I'll sell the pelts and other materials when I get back to town in a couple of days."
*Ding*
*New quests available*
*Quest 05 - Earning a living:
Poverty limits our freedom and makes us prone to illness! It's time to make some money and stop living in misery!
Objective: Obtain at least 1000 gold coins. (Stolen money will not be considered as valid)
Reward: Ekeko, System Wallet Enablement, Mystery Box*1. *
* Quest 06- Hunter's Heart:
Hunting has been the livelihood of people since time immemorial, a man must know how to hunt!
Objective: Obtain 100,000 hunting points.
Hunting points will be distributed every time an animal is hunted. Depending on the level of the animal and the system's evaluation of it, a variable score will be assigned to each prey.
Reward: Hunting Bow, Inventory Enablement (only for prey and its components), Evolution Pill*5
(The higher the level of the hunted prey, the better the rewards)*
Luke read the content of the new quests that had appeared and again thought that the system was bugged.
"A thousand gold coins? I'm afraid that even the annual income of a small county is not that high. But leaving that aside, the Lunari do not use gold coins as currency! I guess it will be another mission that I have to save for another time."
"And as for this hunting mission, at first glance it seems like there is nothing wrong, but I feel that there is some catch…"
Luke took out his bow and at an impressive speed shot an arrow towards the forest. The arrow streaked through the sky at high speed, traversing a great distance, and finally embedded itself in the neck of an unsuspecting deer that was grazing.
*Ding*
*Wild deer hunted. Points obtained: 0*
"As I suspected, it couldn't be that simple. Right now I think of two possibilities, the first is that only animals with a certain level of power give points, and considering that a common deer didn't give me even 0.1 points, it should be necessary to hunt mutant animals, with cultivation, or with some bloodline. If this were the case the difficulty of the mission is quite high, but not impossible.
But if the second possibility I'm thinking of happens, then the mission will simply be impossible."
As for the second possibility he was thinking of, it was nothing more and nothing less than that the system was bugged and anything he hunted would give him zero points, leaving him stuck at the beginning forever.
"Damn system, I wish some mission offered a patch for the system as a reward. Where are the developers? I want to have a talk with them!"
Luke began to curse the air again, he did it just to release some of his frustration, not only frustration towards the system, but also towards the events of his previous life that still weighed on his soul and he couldn't get rid of that weight for the moment.
He sighed
"And on top of that, mission 04 was also bugged, I wonder if it will be fixed at some point or should I consider it lost already."
Mission 04 - Date with the goddess, should have ended when the meeting with Namira ended in the morning. However, the rewards were never distributed and the quest was still there as if it had not yet been completed. Luke had consulted Syzy about it, but as usual he only got the answer "The rewards will be distributed when the date concludes."
He walked over to where the dead deer was and retrieved the arrow. He then hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided not to butcher the animal. The price he could get for selling the materials obtained from the deer was simply not good enough to take the trouble, instead it was more convenient to go deeper into the forest, away from the city and the control of the Lunari. There he could find prey worthy of his time. Besides, he did not have the means to transport a large amount of materials. If he had money he could have bought some accessory with spatial capabilities. But all the money he currently had had been lent to him by Elian, and the young novice did not have a large enough budget to buy such an expensive gadget.
The church had given him a place to live, daily meals, and basic equipment. As for money, it had never been offered to him, and Luke had never asked for it. He had hands and legs and did not like to depend on others more than necessary.
He looked deep into the forest, recalled the planned route in his mind, and set out on his journey. Not far from him, two groups of people followed him stealthily, each with completely opposite missions.
Meanwhile in a small village, in the Austral kingdom, east of the great forest.
An old woman limped into a small hut located on the outskirts of the village. She was breathing heavily, and a bit of dried blood adorned her face.
"We must go, miss, I came across a group of soldiers who were combing the area. I was able to eliminate them, but our location has probably been compromised."
A young girl, about fifteen years old, dressed in ordinary clothes that could not disguise her nobility and appease her beauty, listened to her subordinate's report with concern. With each passing day the enemies came closer and closer. With their backs against the wall, they would have no choice but to surrender and suffer the worst humiliations, or fight uselessly to the death… Or enter the forest. But entering the forest would be suicide. A large number of magical beasts inhabited it, and if they managed to avoid the magical beasts, they would encounter the Lunaris, which would be another dead end.
"Cinthia, do we have to run again? Can't we go back home?"
She looked tenderly at little Aria who longed to go home, and her gaze was filled with sorrow. Could they ever go back? That place no longer existed.
"We have to get going again Aria. I know you miss our home, but for now we can't go back. But as soon as everything calms down I promise you that we will return and everything will be fine" Her voice broke a little at the end of the sentence. She had to be strong, now that her older brother was gone, she was the pillar of the small family.
"Go wake Julian, I will prepare our luggage and we will leave immediately" Cynthia said trying to appear strong in the eyes of her little sister.
Aria ran into the next room to look for her younger brother. Meanwhile Cynthia and the old woman prepared as best they could everything necessary for the trip.
"Where will we go now, young lady?" the old woman asked
"We will continue moving west, it is the only path left to us"
The old woman saw Cynthia's determined expression, and her deep blue eyes in which the fire still burned. She sighed and thought. "I will accompany them to the end, no matter what happens, master Lyriksen"
