Chapter 2: Power.
I reach my car in a hurry. My mind racing as I pull on my door handle. The whole door comes off the car as I gasp.
"Shit my car!" I yell in frustration as I get into the vehicle. I'm late to pick up Mark anyway.
Grabbing the wheel of my car I curse as my hands crush the upper part of my car wheel note to self. Hold back as much as possible from doing everything.
Slowly and shakily I put my keys in the car and turn it on. My face is of pure concentration as I make sure to hold back my functional strength as much as possible
I slowly get the hand of holding back as I drive off.
******
Once Mark gets into the car he notes the missing door on the driver's side of my car as I sigh.
"Dude what happened?".
"Powers."
"No way- I just got mine too!" Mark seems ecstatic. A smile on his face but I'm different. I wanted to live my life of normalcy a bit longer.
"Why are you so happy loser? Do you know what this means? We can't live normally anymore" I say to my younger twin with a scowl as I drive us home.
"Dude, haven't you always wanted to be like Dad? I mean we can fly now!" Mark says as I groan.
"Here you go with that flying stuff again. We don't even know how to fly yet idiot." I chastise my twin
Our bickering continues all the way home.
With a sigh, I unbuckle my seat belt and get out of my car. Rubbing the top of my red 2008 Camaro lovingly.
"You served me well," I mutter as I choke back tears. This is the car that was lifted to me on my 16th birthday by Dad after I won an MMA tournament.
"Dude, are you seriously crying about your car? The door can be put back on" Mark says giving me an odd look as I flip him off.
"Fuck off Mark. Maybe one day when you get something as valuable as my car will you realize my pain." I bite out with a glare. Before the smell of mom's cooking reaches my nose.
Me and Mark enter the house with smiles. My smile is because of mom making my favorite meal for dinner. Mark's is probably because of our powers or something.
"We're home!"
I absentmindedly wash my hands before sitting at the dinner table as Mom greets us with a smile.
"Mark, Markus. How were your days?" Mom asks as I sigh
"I-"
-Woosh-
Mark begins to speak but the sound of someone flying into our house interrupts him as Dad is seen in casual clothes.
"Sorry, I'm late. Enchanted flood." Dad greets us he kisses Mom on the cheek.
"Oh, it's fine honey. Now Mark what were you about to say?"
"I think I'm developing my powers!" He says excitedly. Dad's look hardens but Mom seems unfazed.
"That's great honey. Now Markus what about your day?"
"The same as Mark."
Dad looks to me then Mark. His face is neutral but I see the shift in his eyes. He's serious.
"Are you two sure?"
"Yeah, if me lifting an entire train car is any indicator then yeah. I'm pretty sure." I respond as I dig into my food.
"I was taking out the trash at my job and I threw a garbage bag to space!" Mark begins
"Hmm, tomorrow I'll take you two out flying then," Dad says with a nod as I ignore Mark's story and continue to eat my food.
******
"Bro Ana please stop throwing and heal me!" I yell into my mic angrily as I stare at my teammate's stats on "overwatch"
"Seriously Dude? It's overtime and you barely have 5 thousand total heals." I growl into my mic
I sigh as we lose the game the big red *Defeat* covering my screen as I turn off my pc.
Exiting my bedroom I head to me and Mark's shared bathroom with a yawn. It's 2 am so I doubt anyone is up.
-BANG!-
I rush to my bedroom windows at the sound. I see a cloud of dust as I notice Mark groaning in a small crater on our front lawn.
Opening my windows I yell to my groaning brother.
"Dude what the hell you're going flying without me!?" I yell as I open my windows fully
"Ugh, I thought you didn't care about our powers?" Mark questions as I smirk.
"Doesn't mean I won't be using them." Stepping onto the roof I leap off with zero hesitation.
I will myself not to fall. Normal people don't have this option but I do. I feel a foreign weight press down inside of both my ears as I feel my body stay afloat.
"Holy shit" I feel exhilarating. Unmatched by anything. Including getting drunk and high.
Mark slowly floats to my level with a smile.
"Told you it would be awesome!" He says enthusiastically as I nod.
"You were right for once. This is fucking sick. Heh, try to keep up!" With a burst of movement, I shoot towards the clouds.
The wind blowing on my face, the night sky gets closer as I close my eyes.
"Wait up!" I hear Mark a distance behind me as I slowly down for him to catch up.
Mark slowly rises to the same altitude of myself his smile never leaving his face as he looks around. Everything looks so small from up here.
"Dude. If we fell from this height do you think we would die?" Mark asks as I roll my eyes.
"If we're even a fraction as durable as Dad a fall like this would at most leave us with a couple of bruises. We're invulnerable man!" I say to Mark trying to relive his fears.
What I said is true though. Dad's been literally nuked by Russia before in a crude assassination attempt and came out of the explosion with nothing but a few scuffs on his clothing.
"Yea... your right" Mark's smile returns as we begin to fly around above the clouds. Doing barrel rolls mid air summersaults and other things.
Our fun is interrupted by the glare of a light in the distance. I cringe as I grab Mark's attention. My brother In the middle of touching a cloud.
"Mark move!" Is all I can get off before I dive out of the way of a commercial plane. My brother barely moving out of the way fast enough.
"Shit... that could've been bad man. We would've killed those people." I rub sweat from my forehead.
If the plane ran into us I doubt we would've been hurt. As like I said earlier if we are even a fraction as durable as our dad the only thing I can see damaging us is the strongest of villains and nukes maybe.
"Markus, do you think we can go higher than this? I mean I read somewhere that Dad goes into space frequently." He begins as I look to him in contemplation.
"Yea I think we can. But the higher we go the less oxygen. So we might have to hold our breaths. You banking in on our powers giving us an enhanced lung capacity?" I question as Mark nods.
"Fine, let's go!"
*Gasp*
Suckling in as much air as possible I shoot up into the upper troposphere before reaching space.
Looking to my brother who's following behind I grin as we make eye contact.
'This is so fucking cool were in space!' I silently geek out as I look to my twin.
This life is way better than my last one that's for sure. Pointing downwards I gesture for us to go back down as I notice marks unfocused look. He likely didn't take a deep enough breath.
We slowly fly down and land in our front yard. Mark crashes face first into the dirt but I land elegantly. Don't know how he finds it so hard to land.
I float to my bedroom windows with a yawn I'm pretty exhausted. And flying is surprisingly taxing. It's like constantly flexing a muscle.
"This is power." I mutter as I look at my hands. Everything is just so surreal.
In my past life there were no powers. The only powers you would find are from TV shows. Here it's the norm. But me and Mark are different. We not only have powers but we're half alien
