Chapter 590: Betrayal
The others were the same.
Harried for so many days, they too were exhausted.
Finally, they could rest.
A few were arranged to stand guard, while Templer leaned against the trunk of a tree and began to close his eyes to replenish his spirit.
But he didn't truly fall asleep.
It was his professional habit.
Hours passed.
Judging by the pace, even if crawling, the pursuers should have reached here by now.
Yet no one appeared to hassle them.
This suggested that the people chasing them were very likely already dead.
Finally unable to resist sleep, Templer entered dreamland.
He needed to rest too much.
However, just as Templer was sound asleep, a hand suddenly stretched out from behind the tree trunk and covered his mouth.
Templer woke up with a start, trying to scream.
But he couldn't make a sound.
He could only hear the rushing sound of liquid.
That wasn't water.
It was blood!
Blood spraying from his throat.
At the same moment his mouth was covered, his throat was slit by a sharp military knife.
Templer kicked his legs and struggled violently for over half a minute.
Finally, he lay completely still.
To his death, he never saw who killed him.
Although killing Templer made quite a stir, that group of people were already too exhausted, asleep like dead pigs.
They didn't notice at all.
Once the sniper was dead, the rest were like meat on a chopping board.
The female warrior let go of Templer's body, leaving it leaning against the tree trunk.
Then she stealthily moved towards another person.
Ready to take them out one by one.
Pfft!
Another person's throat was slit.
Silently.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly.
Finally, as the female warrior was about to kill the third person, he noticed her.
A mosquito landed on the man's face.
He instinctively slapped it, inadvertently waking himself up.
Just in time to see the female warrior slicing open the throat of his companion with a Dagger.
"She's here!"
A shout broke the stillness of Nightfall.
Those asleep were also awakened.
Of course, some would never wake again.
"Sergeant, Sergeant!" The cross-border fugitives instinctively called out for their backbone.
Alas, Templer was already dead beyond dead.
"The Sergeant is dead!" someone discovered Templer with his throat slit.
The crowd scattered in madness.
Because everyone fled in different directions, the female warrior could only hold back two of them.
The others vanished into the dense forest again.
But that didn't matter.
As long as that sniper was dead, the female warrior could find them one by one and kill them.
A few minutes later, Su Chen and the female warrior converged.
The female warrior was highly skilled in jungle combat; it seemed the jungle was her home turf. Without the Bomber, Su Chen didn't need to lift a finger; she found and killed the escapees who crossed the border.
The last cross-border escapee was finally caught after a day's run, with the female warrior's gun pressed to his head.
"Run, why don't you run?" Yet, the female warrior put away her handgun and greeted the thin and tall man with her fists.
The thin and tall man was beaten until his face was bloody, cursing all the way, becoming more miserable the more he cursed.
Suddenly, Su Chen's gaze caught sight of a tattoo on the thin and tall man's torn sleeve on his left wrist, and his expression subtly changed.
"What do you mean by this?" Suddenly, the female warrior's punch aimed at the thin and tall man stopped mid-air, she asked with a dark tone.
"Damn woman, I've been putting up with you for a long time, bossing me around feels good, huh?" Su Chen sneered while reaching out his hand.
The female warrior angrily turned her head, trying to dodge Su Chen's hand.
"Don't move, careful my gun goes off!" Su Chen snorted coldly.
The female warrior glared at Su Chen with eyes full of rage.
Because on her forehead, a rifle was pointed at her, precisely the one she had given to Su Chen.
She never expected Su Chen to betray her during battle.
The thin and tall man was also stunned; weren't these two together? Why were they fighting amongst themselves now?
"Bro, after I deal with this woman, how about we split the stuff in the case half and half?" Su Chen turned to the thin and tall man who was picking up a case that had fallen to the side.
The thin and tall man's face shifted colors several times and finally nodded, saying in Huaxia language: "Alright."
Clearly, the other person could also speak Huaxia language.
"Are you doing right by your home?" The female warrior's pretty face turned red with rage.
Su Chen scorned with a smile, saying: "Home is bullshit. Can it feed me? Clothe me? Or give me women? In this world, besides money, everything else can be betrayed."
"Well said!" The thin and tall man gave Su Chen a thumbs up.
He didn't actually think what Su Chen said was good, but now Su Chen was the one holding the weapon.
"You traitor!" The female warrior cursed in anger.
But Su Chen simply raised his hand and struck the female warrior on the neck. She immediately fainted, slumping to the ground.
"Little bro, what's your name?" Su Chen looked at the thin and tall man.
"You may call me Horses' Fortune," said the thin and tall man.
"What? Horses' Fortune?" Su Chen's face twitched; that name, it was too damn aggressive.
"That's right, like that monkey with an iron stick, unbeatable under heaven!" the thin and tall man stated, mimicking Sun Wukong's signature pose.
Su Chen probably understood.
Likely, this guy wanted to call himself Great Sage Equalling Heaven or Sun Wukong, but ended up being pranked.
But this guy was indeed skinny like a monkey.
Then he said, "Brother Horses' Fortune, I'm planning to make a move to Golden Triangle, got any good ways in?"
"Heh heh, you've found the right person in me, you look pretty gutsy. Follow me, and you'll eat well and drink well," said the thin and tall man with a smile.
"Follow you? Are you up to it?" Su Chen deliberately showed a skeptical look.
"Heh, you don't ask around. In your Huaxia Country, who doesn't know about me, Horses' Fortune?" the thin and tall man boasted with pride.
Su Chen's face twitched instantly.
Damn it, indeed, all of Huaxia knew Horses' Fortune, but not this Horses' Fortune, right?
"Alright then, I'm worried about not knowing anyone in Golden Triangle, so I'll follow you for now. But let's get one thing clear, if you can't cover me, I might choose someone else," said Su Chen honestly.
"Rest assured, follow me and there's plenty of money to make!" Horses' Fortune guaranteed, patting his chest.
Then his gaze fell on the female warrior who had fainted and collapsed on the ground.
"This little wench chased me for hundreds of miles; finally, she's fallen into my hands," Horses' Fortune uttered with a cold laugh.
